Sorry all - I completely dropped the ball on the group reads. Been in a bit of a funk since the election, and lots going on, job search, yadda yadda.

Going forward, we'll do better. Dana, have you posted any nominations yet? Feel free to post one that we can add to the poll! I'll make the poll tomorrow.

hey, this is kind of random, but I was wondering if theres any way a Queereaders discord server could be established? I've been looking everywhere for a chat about books, but can't find one. It'd be cool as heck if ya'll made one. Just a thought. ^.^

A repeat of the question asked at the beginning of the month...what's the deal with group reads?

I read Call Me by Your Name when I did so I could discuss it with the group, but I can't find any discussion thread. I'm not disappointed I read it. It was a great book. I'm kind of bummed no one else wanted to talk about it though. I was hoping to connect with some new people through a group discussion.

I read My Lesbian Experience with Lonliness and never found a chat for it, either. :(

Hey everyone, life was again extremely overwhelming with a job change, incredibly demanding work projects, and some classes as well as a family illness. I feel badly that I dropped the ball with the group reads, but as things are, if I start things up this will eventually happen again as I start new classes or projects.

I sent out a message a while ago about maybe adding some new moderators. With Mel and Nancy almost completely inactive, Bill & I could really use sone help!

Anyone who is interested in joining us, please message me. What you would do is fairly simple:

1. Help set up bi-monthly (every 2 months) polls and set up discussion threads.
2. Help in greeting new members on the welcome threads.
3. Join in on group reads where possible to keep the discussion going.

I'd really like to get this group going again with the group reads, but we won't be able to do that until we have some more backup to make things consistent.

Thanks Benjamin! - my aunt had breast cancer, and my mom was temporarily bedridden, but both of them have mostly recovered. My aunt has finished the worst of the treatment, and at the moment her prognosis is good.

The problem with my mom is that it seems impossible to get her to take care of herself unless she is closely watched. She's struggled with some mental health issues all her life, and when she gets obsessed about something, she loses focus on everything else. And unfortunately the adults physically closest to her are my brother and other aunt, who happen to be the only other people in the family with mental health issues.

The three of them together can sometimes be a rare experience! Sometimes when I visit, I feel like I'm walking into 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.' If I just surreptitiously recorded them and transcribed it on one of those bad days, it would make a wonderful dark comedy. I'd hardly have to edit it! Other days, things are just fine there. But when my mom was ill, things were definitely going off the rails a bit. :) Things seem stable-ish now - fingers crossed it will stay that way.

Marc, did you still want a thread for Call Me By Your Name? We can certainly still create it.

Actually, we don't have any restrictions on members creating threads; so everyone should always feel free to create threads to discuss anything you like!!

I've a new book out. Could use guidance as to where to post it ie under what topic.
