M I really want to read Faust by Goethe, but what is the best version?

Recommendations?

Keith I just read the Norton Critical Edition a couple months ago and didn't like the translation. You can see my review here: /book/show/1...

I'm seeking a good translation myself. I read the Walter Kaufmann translation 25 years ago and I don't remember disliking it, but I hardly recall it. There aren't a lot of translations out there. Good luck!

withdrawn If you are really committed to reading the book, like reading Dante and Milton it requires commitment to get through, then go with Walter Kaufmann. He wrote to be read, not to show off his eruditeness.

M The divine comedy is my favorite all time book.

Then you must know how to read (really). So read Faust. I loved it (except that the ending is a bit of a cop out. Goethe could have done better.)
