Liz M 20.8 - Spring Fling - Kate S's Task:
Read a book with a title which contains a five (or more) letter word with only one vowel. For example: Oliver Twist (twist), A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian (short), The First Man in Rome (first).

Rosemary | 4113 comments Does Y count as a vowel e.g. in The Crystal Cave? Or in the word "story"?

Louise Bro | 477 comments Is "y" not generlly counted as a vowel in English?

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 518 comments Y is considered a consonant in words like yoke, youth, yearning, yes, yarn, yogurt, yellow.

Phonetics on the web gives this rule, "The letter y is a consonant when it is the first letter of a syllable that has more than one letter."

Kate S | 6459 comments Thank you, Theresa.

We will be using the following for the sometimes y rule: Y will be considered a consonant if it is the first letter of a syllable containing more than one letter, otherwise it will be considered a vowel.

Neither 'crystal' nor 'story' will work according to this definition.

If there are other questions regarding specific words, please feel free to ask.

Wings

I will accept both of those, as long as that is how it appears in the title.
