We are halfway done with Week 37! You're in the future, jump in your time travel machine and come to answer the post.

This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Which book did you read?

Did you enjoy the book?

How far were you in the future?

Do you think this future is possible at some point?

Did you enjoy the book? Yes. I had been wanting to read this, so it fit it great with this week.

How far were you in the future? Unsure of the exact year.

Do you think this future is possible at some point? Maybe?

Jean Cole (joc724) | 115 comments Which book did you read? Oryx and Crake

Did you enjoy the book? Yes.

How far were you in the future? Hard to say. Post-apocalyptic, but not all that far in the future. Meaning there wasn't a ton of technology that doesn't exist now.

Do you think this future is possible at some point? Unfortunately, yes.
Atwood has a way of describing the future that is horrifying and at the same time very plausible and even (here's where it gets really horrifying) inevitable.

Michelle (mich2689) | 122 comments Which book did you read? Fahrenheit 451

Did you enjoy the book? Yes! I don't know why it took me so long to read it, but I'm so glad I finally did. Definitely a book that made me think.

How far were you in the future? It didn't exactly say.

Do you think this future is possible at some point? Maybe not as far as it went in the book, but there were definitely bits that are very plausible in the future and some that are already happening today.

Which book did you read? Sand Omnibus

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, nice world building and likable characters.

How far were you in the future? No idea, but it's not a near future.

Do you think this future is possible at some point? The world became a desert, the old cities were burred under several hundred meters of sand. I suppose it could happen at some point in a far future but I don't think humanity will succeed to survive.

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments Which book did you read? Cress by Marissa Meyer

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, a lot!

How far were you in the future? No idea, but definitely a very distant future.

Do you think this future is possible at some point? People living on the moon and developing special powers? Mhhh, nop. But the part of cyborgs and androids, that seems quite feasible.

Legend

Did you enjoy the book?
It was okay, yes :)

How far were you in the future?
They may have mentioned in the book, but I have no idea. If I had to guess off-hand....100 years?

Do you think this future is possible at some point?
Yes, it wasn't super advanced, just advanced enough to know it was the future, but that was about it.

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Which book did you read? 1984

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I really liked it.

How far were you in the future? The book was set in the future from when it was written (1949, from memory), so about 35 years.

Do you think this future is possible at some point? Absolutely - parts of it are already true. Manipulation by the media, surveillance, adaptation of language.

I loved it.

How far were you in the future?
Hard to say. Possibly not too far.

Do you think this future is possible at some point?
I really hope not, but I suppose it's possible.
