Well, I will need a little more info on what you consider a halfway hero. Off the top of my head, some of the star heroes are Alexander Belov (The Bronze Horseman); Ross Poldark; Jamie Fraser (Outlander), John Moray (The Winter Sea) and Jericho Barrons (Fever series). All amazing reads. The Have you read any of these?

If you like Scottish historical/romance novels, you could check out Maya Banks' McCabe Trilogy or her Mongomerys and Armstrongs series. There's also Terri Brisbin and her MacLerie Clan series. And Michele Sinclair's McTiernays series.

If you want more modern reading there's the Virgin River series by Robyn Carr.

By your post I'm not sure if you liked Ransom and julie Garwood's take on a hero or not, but a lot of her books have the big bad hero. If you liked Ransom i would suggest reading the other 2 books in the series, (you don't necessarily need to read them in order) 1 was The Secret and 3 was Shadow Music. I would also recommend Saving Grace, Mercy and Killjoy.

Read Monica McCarty's Highland Guard series, beginning with The Chief.
