We are halfway done with Week 40! You're probably very sad, you cried, and cried, drowning your book, your keyboard, your house, etc. Or maybe you're just crying because you didn't cry once while reading the book you chose! Tell us about it, it's a good therapy.

This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)

Which book did you read?

Did you enjoy the book?

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)?

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry?

Did you enjoy the book? Very much.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? I was sobbing. Had to stop reading to collect myself before continuing.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Not that comes to mind.

Which book did you read? The Fault in Our Stars

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, the subject was well addressed.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Not at all!

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Eleanor and Parks (tearful eyes, not crying) and Fairytales for Wilde Girls was very moving.

Krysta (booksaremyfavthing) | 115 comments Which book did you read? The Light Between Oceans

Did you enjoy the book? Yes.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Yes. I cried at the end.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Yes. I cried at the end of The Book Thief.

Marta (gezemice) I read my books out of order so I picked this one after it happened - the crying, I mean. It was The Book Thief. The end was so sad.

I enjoyed it very much. No other book made me cry this year, but The Road did make me very depressed.

Did you enjoy the book? I liked most of the book. There was one part that I felt was such an obvious plot twist that I almost did not finish it. I am glad that I stuck with the story though.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? My eyes misted at the very end.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry?
I did read a few books that made me cry this year. The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Light Between Oceans,Lonesome Dove are all good books that made me cry.

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Which book did you read? Of Mice and Men

Did you enjoy the book? I did, very much so. It's a sneaky little sucker, it crept up on me - I didn't realise how invested I was until I got that proverbial kick in the guts.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Ahh, yep.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly & The Little Prince both had me sobbing. The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Night, The Art of Asking; or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Let People Help & The Color Purple all had me in various stages of eye-wetness. And side-read The Ocean at the End of the Lane had me fully crying as well. Damn, I really need to read some funny books.

Christi Which book did you read?We Are Called to Rise by Laura McBride

Did you enjoy the book? Very much. I picked up this book at random in my library's "Blind Date with a Book" back in February. I don't think I would have chosen it off the shelf on my own at the time. I'm so happy that's the book I had to read. It was just wonderful. And since then I've recommended it highly to many people.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Yes. The ending definitely had me teary eyed.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Not so far.

ٲԲë | 30 comments Which book did you read? Lincoln's Dreams by Connie Willis

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I chose it because it is a favorite of mine.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? I had watery eyes several times and cried steadily through the last chapter.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Haha, probably at least a third of the books have made me cry. I'm not a weepy person in real life, but I cry easily at books. Life After Life and In the Shadow of Blackbirds are the two others that made me cry the most I think.

The Glass Castle

Did you enjoy the book?
Yes.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)?
Only at one small part near the beginning, although most of the book was depressing.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry?
Me Before You made me ugly cry. Also Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, Leaving Time, Half of a Yellow Sun, Known to Social Services, All the Light We Cannot See, Anne of Green Gables, and currently, The Book of Negroes. Lots of books sadder than the one I chose for this week.

Did you enjoy the book? Not as much as I thought I would. Maybe it was too hyped up.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? Not at all.

Did you enjoy the book?
Yes I did!

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)?
I only properly cried once but there were quite a few moments where I got watery eyed.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry?
The Color Purple is the only other book that made me properly cry this year but I got a bit watery eyed at The Complete Persepolis , All the Bright Places , and Battle Royale

The Book Thief

Did you enjoy the book?
Yes.

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)?
Yes, right near the end. :(

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry?
Not so far. I cry easily while watching movies, not as much while reading books. Maybe cause I read too fast.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Did you enjoy the book?
Yes! I knew I would because I loved the movie!

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)?

Yes, I definitely did. It just had this heartbreaking honesty to it, despite it not being quite like I had expected.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry?
I don't think so but so much has been going on IRL that I can hardly remember if I did or not. haha!

message 16: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments Which book did you read?
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer

Did you enjoy the book? It was OK

The BIG question: did you cry (or had watery eyes)? I didn't cry, but there was a scene in which the mother is watching the news and she scared for what had just happened and then she got a call telling her that his son is there... that was kind a really sad scene. I had watery eyes, but just in that short part.

Is there another book in the challenge which made you cry? Yes! Anne of Green Gables made me cry a lot.
