If we are not keen on the Ocean Liner Mysteries, I will drop the second book.

Also, we need to decide whether we wish to insert the Flavia de Luce short story:
The Curious Case of the Copper Corpse (2014)
(Book 6.5 in the Flavia de Luce Mystery series)
A Novella by Alan Bradley

The Curious Case of the Copper Corpse The Curious Case of the Copper Corpse (Flavia de Luce, #6.5) by Alan Bradley

A special eBook original short story, in which the eleven-year-old connoisseur of chemistry is immersed in her element: solving a mystery!

Murder! the letter says, Come at once. Anson House, Greyminster, Staircase No. 3. How can Flavia de Luce resist such an urgent plea? After all, examining a dead body sounds like a perfectly splendid way to spend a Sunday. So Flavia hops upon her trusted bicycle, Gladys, whose rubber tires hiss happily along the rainy road, and arrives at her father's mist-shrouded old school. There, a terrified boy leads her to the loo where, sitting in a bathtub, is what appears to be a statue. But, no: To Flavia's surprise, the thing is in fact a naked dead man. Save his face, he seems to have been carved out of copper. Never one to shy away from the macabre, Flavia gets to work-only to find that when an investigation begins with a metallic cadaver, ever more curious twists are to be expected.

It's only short, so I will just pop in one thread between number 6 and 7 if anyone wants to add it?

I liked Murder on the Lusitania but did think that it felt like the opener of a series that hasn't quite found its feel yet - so I'd like to read the second one - but happy to go with the group decision.

Happy Time Change! I woke at my normal time, but of course the clock says I’m an hour later

Behold, Here's Poison was great fun as a relisten, while knitting- I do love Heyer’s mysteries (well, except “Why Shoot a Butler? which I’ve reread way too many times, refuse to read again).

I was able to get my copy from the library, but also got the audiobook that just came out - seems cozy enough to lend itself to listening while knitting. I don’t like doing that with more complex mysteries on a first read, can’t keep characters and clues straight.

Too soon to tell, but I’m only on chapter three, I think I will like it enough to read on.

As some of us really enjoyed our Cyril Hare, "Tragedy at Law," we are intending to read the second With a Bare Bodkin

England is in the grip of the Second World War and the Blitz has forced the evacuation of various government offices from London. Francis Pettigrew, an unsuccessful barrister and amateur detective, accompanies his ministry to the distant seaside resort of Marsett Bay where the civil servants must make the best of their temporary home. In this strange atmosphere, Pettigrew begins to fall in love with his secretary, Miss Brown, who is also being courted by a widowed man who is much older than her. Bored and restless, the ministers start playing a light-hearted game of 'plan the perfect murder' to pass the time. Pettigrew, caught up in his love for Miss Brown, remains detached from the silliness - until a real murder happens, and he is drawn into solving the mystery. 'One of the best detective stories published for a long time.' Spectator

I will add this to August and update our reading list.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 1036 comments So Judy kindly added a Michael Innes thread under “Favorite Authors, and I’ve added a complete (I hope) list of this prolific author’s works there. As a group we’ve read several of his early Inspector Appleby novels and they weren’t wildly popular, but I assure you that his mysteries get shorter and more accessible as they go along! So Rosina and I are thinking of resuming a read in order of his Appleby books sometime this summer, starting with The Secret Vanguard (1940). It’s not one of her favorites but she’s playing along. Any other takers?

Sid Nuncius | 234 comments I probably won't join in with a re-read of The Secret Vanguard because I read it not that long ago. I'd be interested in future buddy reads of Innes, though. I found the early Applebys something of a slog, but they do seem to be getting better, as Abigail says.

(My spoiler-free review of The Secret Vanguard is here, if anyone is interested: /review/show... )

Abigail wrote: "Yay! We’ll see what Judy thinks might be a good time to start."

Looking at our list in message 835 above, it's fairly packed with 4 books a month over the summer, although not everyone is reading all the series, of course.

A mid July slot would be good for me personally as I'm not reading the Flavia books and the Maigrets are extremely quick reads - but would that work for you, Abigail, Rosina and Jill?
