Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 8 comments Now about halfway through. This book needed to be more ruthlessly edited, I think, and the translation is inconsistent. It isn't super-readable.

But there are some memorable moments, and I think I can see what Wolf is trying to do - recount the experience of childhood that's common to us all, but against the backdrop of Nazi Germany, so that we can feel ourselves growing up in that weird atmosphere and understand how it happened.

Talia (co1ytm) I was just able to start reading this. It reminds me of literature more than your average fiction. That's not a bad thing. It's very well written. I've enjoyed it so far.
