I wanted to see how the feedback polls were shaping up before I posted this.

Reading challenge #20 is here! If you haven't ever participated in our previous challenges, you can start now! They run for 3 months, and they are designed around whatever people want! Usually someone volunteers to lead them and to keep track of points. Some of them have had the ability to be completed and end, others can go on with more and more points accumulating for the entire 3 months. It's totally up to what the group members want!

If you're looking for an invite to lead or participate: HERE IT IS!!

Let us know what you'd like. Let us know if you'd like to lead it. Look through previous challenges to get an idea of how the points work and what ideas or themes we've used in the past.

We can start Reading Challenge #20 as soon as we get some ideas flowing! Let's hear 'em!!

Celeste (celeste_bocchicchio) | 88 comments I like the poetry idea. There are several interesting YA novels written in verse. April is also Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention month. May is National Bike Month and Jewish-American Heritage Month. June is Caribbean-American Heritage Month and African-American Music Appreciation Month.

Lots of interesting Month info here:

Maybe a "Month of Theme?"

Points for gaining awareness. Five points for each book read in a section, 2 pts for additional books in that section
1. Read a novel in verse or a novel with a poetry theme (April)
2. Read a novel with a theme of sexual violence or sexual assault (April)
3. Read a book about bicycles, cyclists etc (May)
4. Read a book with a Jewish-American protagonist (May)
5. Read a book with a Caribbean-American protagonist (June)
6. Read a book with jazz, blues, hip-hop, rap, R&B or other African-American music as a theme (June)
(3o points for completing this section)

Get your Fruits and Veggies (5 pts each) If doing covers, please post the covers
7. Read a book with a Strawberries, Asian Pear, or Tomatillos on the cover or in the title. (April)
8. Read a book with Mangos, Limes, or potatoes in the title or on the cover (May)
9. Read a book with Cherries, Plums, Pluot, Aprium, or Okra in the title or on the cover (June)
(15 pts for this section)

Birthstones
10. Read a book that has Diamond or Crystal in the title or on the cover (April)
11. Read a book that has Emerald on the cover or in the title (May)
12. Read a book that has Alexandrite, Pearl, or Moonstone in the title or on the cover (June)
(15 pts for this section)
(maybe for this section colors on the cover would work? not sure how difficult finding the actual gems or words would be)

Holidays
16. Read a book about a holiday that occurs in April this year.
17. Read a book about a holiday that occurs in May this year.
18. Read a book about a holiday that occurs in June this year.
(15 pts for this section

75 total points possible.

Just throwing this out there. What do you all think?

Celeste (celeste_bocchicchio) | 88 comments Ok...so it is the end of April...should I start a thread for this? Wait to see if there is more interest?

Jennifer Fuentes | 24 comments When does challenge 20 start???? I've been waiting on a new thread and rules to get started!! Can't wait to take up a new challenge!

We can back date the start to the 1st of May if that makes sense. So any books read since May 1 would count. Celeste, you are free to start a thread if you like.

Amy I have been MIA for awhile....Life got busy. Ready to get back to the challenges. Can we still join this one??

Hi Amy. The group has been pretty inactive for some time. If someone wanted to create a new challenge, maybe we could stir up some interest! It's been a while since I've done a challenge myself, sounds fun!

message 16: by Amy (new)

Amy Is it the whole group that's been inactive or just the challenges?
