All questions about specific tasks and also general discussion. We will be adding some lists for books that could fit some of the harder to find tasks and updating it when people make suggestions. Feel free to give suggestions on books you think would fit someone’s needs for a task.

yes, since we had 3 winners to the Fall/Winter challenge we decided against that one. It may be a special switch during the challenge sometime, but as of right now, that isn't one of the tasks.

Kelly | 250 comments "15-5. Blockbusters" - Would a TV show count - Like the STARZ's Outlander show starting this summer (I think before the challenge ends) OR HBO's Game of Thrones?
"25-2. Bizarre, Unique & Special Holidays" - is this a two book challenge?

message 4: by Merc (new)

Merc (oswinssouffle) Allison’s task: Wheel of Fortune: Read a book where the Wheel of Fortune letters RSTLNE all appear in the title and author's name. For example: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger or The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd.

I have a question about the above task. Do the letters have to be in the title AND the authors name or in one or the other?

I would say TV shows would count, and yes the bizarre holidays is a 2 book challenge. I cleared it up in the task (I think).

The letters only have to appear once in the title AND authors name together, not once in the title then once in the authors name.

Nicki (ophia) | 85 comments For 25.2 I'm hoping to count No Place Like Oz for one of my books. It's only 132 pages. Would that be ok?
My other book is over 300 pages so it definitely balances out:)

message 9: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rmtb) | 62 comments Argh bad planning on my part - I listed and was chosen to read The Grapes of Wrath for Bethany's challenge, and now realised it's perfect for Mickslibrarian's Vice challenge... is there any way I can please have another book picked for 15.8, either from the other 2 I listed, or I can add another and have one chosen from the new three? :)

(It's fine if I can't, I should've planned it better haha)

Pixie Rose (princesspixierose)
3. Art Smart: ... a novel set in the art world.

What does that mean?

I say it would be okay, as long as your other books are longer.

That would work. :)

I am fine with the switch as long as you message whoever it was that picked that one so they can pick the new one.

message 14: by Nicki (new)

Nicki (ophia) | 85 comments Thanks Tami:)

message 15: by Holly (new)

Holly | 42 comments For 15.3 - Summer Stock are we suppose to read 3 full length plays? For instance if I want to read Othello, which is 314 pages, do I need to read 2 additional plays or is this one enough?

message 16: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I think we had down 3 because most are short (around 50 pages) so I would say 1 with over 300 pages would work.

Thanks for the clarification. :)

Allison | 179 comments In Chasing Harry Winston one of the story lines is about an editor working with a famous author who is writing another book after a long break. Can this work for Task 15.7?

I don't think that is what they are after, but let me get with Lori and I can give you a better answer.

*Edit* No, the description doesn't seem like this fits the task.

For 15.7: Books about Books: Read a book deemed Metafiction or a book about how to read books or assist in the reading of specific books.
The first part is Metafiction: /shelf/show/... this is a list of popular metafiction books.
The second part "a book about how to read books or assist in the reading of specific books" is more of a non-fiction thing. Like The Great Gatsby: Study Guide or Atonement Lesson Plans or even something like 1001 Comics You Must Read Before You Die: The Ultimate Guide to Comic Books, Graphic Novels, and Manga
Hope this helps everyone.

message 22: by Marci (new)

Marci M. (marcisbookshelf) For the "May, June, July & August are all women's names" task does the character or author have to be female? I read Wonder and the main character's a boy named August.

message 23: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I would allow that. I think the name is the important part.

message 24: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments For 25.4 First and Last I would like to do Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. However his first book A Study in Scarlet is only 100 pages. Would this be okay?

message 25: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
That should be fine, as long as the other book is longer and you make up with pages on other books.

message 26: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments His last book is 200 pages, but a lot of my 5 and 10 point tasks are over 350 pages. Thanks!

message 27: by Kevin (last edited Apr 26, 2014 09:48PM) (new)

Kevin (kevinog) | 3 comments So, it turns out that my book for 10.2. (Hopefully not) Lost in Translation: Snakes and Earrings is only 120 pages. However, my 5 point books were 200 and 300 pages, and the next book I have planned is over 350. Is the shorter book still acceptable?

message 28: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Kat, you are fine.

message 29: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (pikakejazz) Wanting to read White Teeth by Zadie Smith for the lyrics challenge. I know it's not directly inspired by a song or vice versa, but there is that "White Teeth Teens" song by Lorde. Thoughts?

message 30: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Jasmine, that would work.

message 31: by Kat (new)

Kat (nyrhtakk) The EW New Classics link is broken ): I think it got truncated by the website or something, because I found the article and the posted link was just cut off a little bit. This one works!

message 32: by Kat (new)

Kat (nyrhtakk) Hahaha goodreads continues to truncate the link... I hope it continues to work! If not, which ideally shouldn't break.

message 33: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine (pikakejazz) So this 2 become 1 task... it seems to me that it's basically any book title that's already a sentence and another title that's a prepositional phrase... Would "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" be ok as the first even though it grammatically might not work without the second comma? (Ex. Where'd You Go, Bernadette, Last Summer)

message 34: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Jasmine that would be fine. We aren't worried about the punctuation, just that it could make a sentence.

message 35: by Pixie (new)

Pixie Rose (princesspixierose) 4. Study Abroad: Read a book about someone visiting a foreign country.

Do you think Stardust could count for this? Whatever mythical land Tristan Thorn goes to is decidedly not England.

message 36: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Leah, since it is just a 10 pt, I say that is close enough.

message 37: by R (last edited Jun 27, 2014 10:11AM) (new)

R Is 25.6 Take a vacation a one or two-book challenge? Is it one book in a certain location and with a theme or one for the location and one for the theme? (I think I've seen both versions in the completed challenges so I got confused :p)

message 38: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Rutger, it is a two book task. I didn't notice anyone using one book but I tend to update points in a rush. I tried to reword it, so hopefully there won't be confusion in the future.

message 39: by Ema Fortunova (new)

Ema Fortunova (emaf) Concerning 5.1 I Still Believe in 398.2, my library has a lot of books that are 50-60 pages long, can I just rent out a couple of them so they collectively add up to 150 pages (or more)? :)

message 40: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Ema, that would work fine.

message 41: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilyknap) | 24 comments For Task 20.2, would Horns or Inferno count for part A?

message 42: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Emily, I think Horns definitely would, but not too sure on Inferno. I say go ahead on either.
