The year is almost over so it's time for the last read of the year. So this month we will be reading Scarlet, Marissa Meyer's follow up to Cinder. Sorry, I'm working with the Kindle version and it has no page numbers.

Summary:

Hi guys, I hope we are all looking forward to reading Scarlet?!
So just a quick question, has everybody read Cinder and what did they think of e?? Has anybody read the free short stories that go along with these books, Glitches, The Little Android and The Queen's Army??

So, first part read and we've been introduced to a string of new characters. Scarlet and Wolf, obviously a take on Little Red Riding Hood, and Thorne who I keep picturing as Captain Mal from firefly.

Apologize, it truly was the silly season and I had not a second to get back to this thread.
So what did everyone think of Scarlet? I enjoyed this book much better than Cinder. Just loved Scarlet and Wolf! And Thorne!!! I am really enjoying the links to classic fairy tales, Cinder being Cinderella and Scarlet being Little Red Riding Hood.
Anyone going to keep reading the series???

I think what I like most about this series is that the female characters are not princesses that need to be saved but rather their strength and knowledge is what saves the day more than that of the males. which is what make their swooning over their princes all that more annoying.

I actually think of Scarlet as a cross of LRRH and Beauty and the Beast because other than Scarlet being a redhead with a red hood and there being big bad wolves out to get her grandmother I do not see much correlation with the fairy tale. Wolf despite his name is more like the Hunter in the fairy tale but even more like the Beast in BnB where he overcomes his beastly programming because of his "love" for Scarlet. Scarlet is a pilot who is pretty much running her grandmother's business who is drawn to a street fighter in her search for who took her grandmother.

The problem I have with this episode it it opened more questions than it answered and most were not even answered in future books.

Scarlet's Lunar ancestry is barely touched upon and if they have any of the ability to affect the perception of those around. Her father seemed to have some of this and their is one scene where it is intimated that Scarlet may have some as well but it is never further pursued.

What was done to Cinder at the farm, who all was involved and how was she kept hidden from Scarlet.

How does grandma go from being a high ranking fighter pilot that becomes part of a lunar delegation with enough access to be someone that they would hide the lunar princess to a farmer that sells produce to the local farmers market with a super secrete cybrenetics lab?!?!
