I won this book for free and just received it and decided to read it. And Boy am I glad I read it. This has hurt/comfort to a whole new level. Jamie Carlson is a rape survivor and recovering alcoholic. He is unofficially adopted into the family of his first AA sponsor. the Bailey family is a little dysfunctional with Alec being a recovering alcoholic who missed out ten years of his children's life. His wife, Belle, is dying of an inoperable brain tumor. His daughter, Grace, is on forced bedrest in a hospital for fear the she will have a placentic abruption and maybe lose the baby and/or her life. His son, Owen who is adopted, is gay and secretly believes that it is his fault that his mother lose her baby which led to his father's drinking problem. so since he feel he can't be forgiven he acts like an asshole to his father and to Jamie.
We first meet, Daniel Priest as a person Jamie is going to hookup with. but Owen come to the hotel where the launch party of Alec's new magazine is being held. Daniel is there because he had to step in the final few day to rescue the launch from a different firm who screwed it up. Daniel is interested in Jamie as the photographer who took moving picture highlight rape survivors.
Jamie, at Belle's request, works hard to heal the family. He is a mediator getting the parties finally talk and we find out about Owen's guilt and the story of why Alec was a drunk. Jamie also reveals his past including being raped when he was eightteen by at least two men. Jamie doesn't truly see how strong he is and that he was instrumental in the healing of the Bailey family.
Great read.

Amazing! Fantastic mystery with lots of red herrings that were well executed to keep me guessing. I also really enjoyed the love story and the themes of grief and death and how we choose to cope with and believe in these concepts. I'm still not sure where I fall on the ghost idea, but this book made me want to believe!

Review: I have to admit that this series dipped for me in the middle and I lost interest in keeping up with each new release around book 5. River Marked was a good improvement, but I didn't love it either. Frost Burned finally got me invested again.
In this book, Mercy reminded me a bit of Harry Dresden - often beaten down, outclassed, but with just enough tricks up her sleeve to get out of serious trouble. She always fights for the underdog, and for what's right, and it is so fun to read (even when she's being hardheaded). I loved that we got to see Zee again, and it will be interesting to see if there are any repercussions from her accidental outing of her abilities to some more of her community members. This was a really satisfying story, and I'm glad book 8 is out now for me to pick up!

I had to read the fourth in this series for my book discussion group so when I saw fifth series oprion this just called to me. I enjoyed this quick and quirky quilting book take combine two stories the present where Sylvia and Andrew are Seniors engaged and travelling the country to visit with Andrew's adult children to inform them that Andrew and Sylvia are getting married. There is also a hunt for some of Sylvia's Mother's quilts that her older sister sold. And the past during the time of the spanish flu epidemic anmd women suffergette movement. Where we learn about the signifigance of the quilts that Sylvia is searching for. this is a great story and because of the love and the Surprise Christmas Wedding I urge you to read this enjoyable book. P.S. If you know about quilts you will get more from it especially whn they talk about quilt patterns and it is assumed you know what the commmon patterns are.

The fifth book in the series picks up right after Conspiracy's cliffhanger and delivers another fast-paced, action-packed fantasy read that is just as wonderfully entertaining as the previous books. This one is Maldynado's book, which I'd been especially looking forward to as he's been one of my favourite characters ever since his first appearance. With Amaranthe captured by the enemy and Sicarius off on his own to rescue her, Mal finds himself with way more responsibility than he ever wanted as the rest of the team needs to figure out what to do without their leader - after all, they still have a conspiracy to stop. Beset by distrust from everyone around him including the emperor now travelling with the team as it is Mal's estranged family that his trying to usurp the throne and at the same time under a death threat from Sicarius should he fail to protect Sespian, it's time for Mal to show that he's more than just a pretty face with great sword skills and a questionable fashion sense - and possibly impress Yara, who is proving to be quite immune to his considerable charms. A great read as always!

this starts the silver call duology We meet many Dwarves Men a few elf and Waerow. the waerows are the heroes of this book, small in stature but great in heart. without them the dwarves cannot reclaim their ancestral homeland. there are two seperate groups who have a task to complete before the army can reclaim the homeland. a squad of 7 have to sneak through Kraggen-cor to fix and open the Magic door. the main army have to clear the rubble from in front of the door and they have to kill a great big Kraken. thankfully for those who know me, there is no tentacle sex or sex of any kind in this book. this is a strong piece of epic fantasy that if you like fantasy you should read this Author

Review: My first Sarah MacLean and definitely not the last. I loved the unique plot around a lost fortune in a game of cards. Michael certainly had to work hard to redeem his awful treatment of Penelope but in the end he won me over. He had some particularly dark demons chasing him and it was interesting to see how he chose to fight them. Penelope grew some major balls in the last few scenes that made me love her even more. Great heroine and a very fun story!

Review: I stayed up late last night to finish this one, because I knew it was going to make me ugly cry, and who wants to do that on the train to work? I resisted this book for so long because it has inspired some major praise and criticism. I thought the kids-with-cancer angle seemed designed to make teenagers and parents weep, and it bothers me when authors feel manipulative like that.
It was a very sweet story, and gripped me only because I loved Hazel so much. Augustus tried too hard for me, but I could see why Hazel would like him, even in all of his manic pixie dream boy grand gestures of affection. The plot around their favorite book was a nice break from it being all about illness and death, but it ultimately didn't pay off for me as successfully as I think Green feels it did. The interactions with Van Houten felt improbable and cartoonish juxtaposed against the harsh realities of their daily lives. I think the lessons on expectations and maturity could have been realized without this tropey old oaf of a secluded, depressed writer.
As an adult reader, I could appreciate the first love elements of this story that would have made me gaga for this book as a young person. I also liked that it didn't play dumb for the reader - it had a high standard that pulls you along - which makes it nice for older readers as well. Green deals with very mature themes here, and what ultimately got me in the feels at the end of this book was the reminder that each person matters to someone, and we all leave lasting marks on the people who flow through our lives, no matter how briefly or influentially.

One of the best books in the series so far IMO! Relentless action, deep emotions, an ever more awesome and continually evolving cast of characters and a gripping plot with brilliant twists that grabs you on page one and doesn't let go until the end as the fight for the vampire throne that had been building up for a long time finally comes to its climax, a prophecy is fulfilled and more pieces are set into place for the approaching battle against the demon Orion that threatens everything Rylee holds dear. A great read all around! (Also, have I mentioned that I adore Doran? More than ever after this book!)
