Happy new year and what a way to start off my reading year is with the reckoning by Rennie Airth and yes I found out I am reading the 4th in the series but hopefully it will be good enough for me to read the rest

Literally just finished "A Brief History of Seven Killings" by marlon James. Not an easy read (probably couldn't have done it without goggling historical details and slang, etc), but VERY interesting. Will stay with me for a long time (and not just the new swear words which I have learned). We went on our honeymoon in 1986 to Jamaica because we love Bob Marley and nobody wanted to let us near anywhere interesting in Kingston, which was very disappointing at the time and to be honest made Jamaica a bit boring (not really a hot beach sort of person). After reading this book however, I can understand why.
Immense read and recommend it highly.

Oh, Gisela! I'm so happy you liked it. I lived online while reading this novel just to make sure I got the most out of it, especially all of the politics.

I am currently reading two books. The Black Angel is the fifth book in John Connolly's Charlie Parker thriller series. A buddy read has been set up for this book and others in the series. Anyone interested in reading Black Angel is invite to read and comment on it here.
I'm also reading Cormac McCarthy's The Orchard Keeper as part of a group read for the On the Southern Literary Trail group. That discussion can be found here.

A Dark-Adapted Eye -just finished this one. Enjoyed immensely as Barbara Vine/Ruth Rendell is one of my favourite psychological mystery authors.

Seems it is the first one written under the pseudonym Barbara Vine, though actually the author goes on to describe how she got both her names (which are true, rather than pseudonyms)

Firstly I was a great fan of Mitch Rapp and the author Vince Flynn, and this is my first Kyle Mills book, and great to read another Mitch Rapp, although I know I have missed a few books in between, but the author Kyle Mills seems to me to have filled into Vince Flynn boots very well !

Definitely. I recently watched the DVD of the BBC adaptation, which is also very good.

I have just finished the reckoning by rennie airth and wow it was good and now I am going to go back to "where it all began" hehe with River of Darkness by same author

My first read of the year is And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I wanted to remind myself of the story before watching the TV adaptation.

I enjoyed that book. It is, however, much like Roger Ackroyd in that once you've read it, the surprise is gone for a second read!

I have found that with most of Agatha chrisitie's novels once you have read them and then you go back you lose the pleasure of reading it new... sorry if that doesn't make sense but I do love books that make you want to re-read them again and again for me that's good story telling

What I've noticed is that with enough space between readings, I can go back to the more standard whodunnits of hers having totally forgotten who did what. I reread them periodically.

yes I normally take a year out and read others till I get that urge to re-read them its normally poirot for me as I find miss marple a bit too unlikeable

LOL, Zoe! I've never heard her described as unlikeable, but I can see how she'd grate on the nerves.

hehe yeah I probably should run and hide after that remark :P . I am not sure why I don't like her but I prefer poirot

I have just finished Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic This was a fun, fluffy way to start the new year. Not much mystery but the story moved along and the characters were interesting.

Just finished "Playing With Fire" by Gerritsen, enjoyed it. Am now reading "Career of Evil" by Galbraith (JK Rowlings). Third in series, haven't read the others yet. Good plot but a bit too much "padding" for me, I think much of the backstory could have been omitted without loss of the main story.

I've just finished the "Dead Letter" portion of Metta Fuller Victor's The Dead Letter and The Figure Eight. The first novel was published in 1867, I think. The author was one of the first, if not THE first, American woman writers of detective stories. It was just awesome. I'm still in a swoon (fluttering fan)!

Finished a re-read of Roses are Red James Patterson working my way through the Alex Cross and Womens Murder Club books again.

I finished The Accursed by Joyce Carol Oates, a pseudo-historical, mystery, horror novel about the "Crosswicks Curse" that afflicted Princeton, N.J. in the early 1900s. Too long but a well-written, compelling story. 4 stars.

I don't think I've ever read any of her books. I bought one recently, hope to try it this year.

I started the audiobook version of White Heat on a road trip yesterday. Not many books with a setting above the Arctic circle. I had to Google the location to see it on a map. So far very good.

I just finished Playing with Fire by Tess Gerritsen. Beautiful and haunting as well as thrilling.

Next up is Overwatch: A Thriller by Matthew Betley.

Tonight I'm going to start Dust by hugh howey I'm so looking forward to completing the trilogy
