Melissa | 1245 comments Oh.My.God. That is so great! I cannot wait to get my hands on that book now! I was already looking forward to it since I saw your post in the what-are-you-reading thread and I was thrilled to see you described the main character as foul-mouthed. She sounds like so much fun!

Glad you're back up & running... we're all such reading addicts.
I've been known to read at my bus stop by torchlight on the mornings when my umbrella blocks out the light from the street light...
I'm calling in a copy of Maverick right away.

So sorry I'm late jumping in, my computer playtime at work is drastically reduced around end/beginning of the month. I didn't forget about you!

I noticed from your shelves that your tastes are pretty widely varied, so I have a few for you to check out. Pick one, pick them all, whatever you choose!

I see you like paranormal, urban fantasy, and humor, so you might want to see if MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series twirls your beanie. Start with Undead and Unwed (Queen Betsy, Book 1).

If you like your urban fantasy with a strong yet flawed herione who learns the ropes along with the reader, get to know Joanne Walker in Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, Book 1) by C.E. Murphy.

If you would prefer to explore a new (somewhat young-adult oriented, but beautifully written) fantasy series , I recommend Dreams of the Ringed Vale (Luthiel's Song, Book 1) by newcomer Robert Fanney.

Or how about a sci-fi horror thriller about human cloning and government cover-ups? Check out Descent(7th Son, Book 1) by J.C. Hutchins. I highly recommend the audio versions of the 7th Son books, they are beautifully read by the author! He offers them free as MP3 PodCast downloads, just visit iTunes (if you have an iPod) or podiobooks.com to check it out.

OK, I was going to quit here but I had to add a couple more. I noticed you read Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy and gave it a lukewarm rating. I don't know if you just didn't love it or what (haven't read them myself yet, so I can't agree or disagree). But if you want to try something of hers that isn't young-adult, I really enjoy her Georgina Kincaid series (Book 1, Succubus Blues) AND her Dark Swan series (Book 1, Storm Born).

Can you tell I like series? LOL! Anyway, sorry again that it took me song long to post this. I hope you find one that sounds intriguing.

Happy reading! :)

~Peace

Mary E. (jujjy) | 125 comments WOW Emily, they all sound awesome! Thanks! I'd like to get to all of them, and *squee!* Size 12 Is Not Fat and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society are both available on Kindle! Off Season sounds great as well, so they are all three officially on my TBR list (but for the record, just in case anyone here checks up on these things, I swear they weren't there before Emily browsed my shelves LOL!)

And yes, I'm proud to admit it, I am a book-a-holic. To the point that I always over-extend myself when it comes to all the challenges and group reads (I guess I always anticipate that I will have more free reading time than I actually can manage), but hey, there are worse addictions! :)

Thanks for the recommendations, I can't wait to dig in!

~Peace

Karyn (honestbutevil) | 43 comments Mary, I think I'll try Undead and Unwed to start. It sounds like something I'll like. And I've been meaning to try Richelle Mead's other books so this gives me added incentive to find them.

Kathy (hnybee411) Just finished Naked in Death. Loved it! Thanks so much for the recommendation. Now I'm rearranging my reading priorities so I can read the rest of the series.

I'm so glad you liked it! IMO each book of In Death series is better than the last one. Heh, I'm rereading it all right now myself.

Annie (themadnessofhamsters) Hi Corrupt - I finished Maverick a couple of days ago (just haven't got around to writing anything yet).
As I read the book, I also read a comment on Smart Bitches where someone referred to Micah as To Stupid To Live - and I realised that was what I was struggling with... he was really annoying me. Or, maybe it was just me - and I wasn't in the right space for it... But, it was an ok read to kill time.
To make up for it, I'm requesting a novella collection with a Rachel Gibson story in it - Secrets of a perfect night.
But, hey! I'll keep reading Leigh's non-breed books!

I'm about half way through the book and it's good so far. She is very funny! Loved it when Rondeau says "Would it kill you to wear a skirt once in awhile" and she says, "No, but it might kill you to ask that again."

I'm glad you're liking it so far! Marla and Rondeau crack me up together.

I read the second book in the series, Poison Sleep, last week and it was just as good as the first. The ending was crazy though!

But here's a good Marla/Rondeau moment from Poison Sleep:

She sighed. "No, you'll call Langford, and then you'll drive me over to meet this new guy, Joshua Kindler-

"No can do. The ladies' toilets in my club are all clogged, and I need to get them fixed before we open tonight."

"Rondeau. What's more important? Your toilets, or the fate of the world?"

He scowled. "Don't give me that. Every little thing you need doesn't involve the fate of the world. You tried that line on me last week when you needed your laundry done."

Lol. They're too funny together.

Melissa | 1245 comments Blood Engines by T.A. Pratt>

Shannon - I just finished Blood Engines! I gave it 4 stars, but only because of the typical first-book-in-a-series awkwardness. Those first books have so much world building and background info to squeeze in that I usually like the first book the least in any series. I throughly enjoyed all the characters. I thought B was awesome! I was happy with the final fight scene with Mutex. There had already been SO much action that I was relieved when she let the snake god loose to finish him and had the rest of them sitting around. It felt right and added a bit of humor to the scene with me picturing them sitting around like they were watching a movie! I will definitely be reading the rest of this series. Thanks for the great recommendation, it was totally the type of book I love!

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it. And I understand what you mean giving it 4 stars - that's what I gave it too. It takes a really really special book for me to hand out 5.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1182 comments Melissa B, I just finished Stupid & Contagious - it is very scary but I once had a girlfriend just like Heaven, my roommate in college - talk about a deja vu...thanks I really liked it...

Finished my book today, Amethyst Dreams. It's not my usual reading stuff, but it was very well-written, and I was kept guessing until the end of the story. I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for the recommendation.
