Well, I've heard it said that marketing is in the hands of the author these days. You can't depend on the publisher to do it for you. So many first time authors aren't known and so nobody buys their books and the books are pulled from the shelves after two months. The book is never printed again and no publisher wants to take a risk with a failed author.
And today, publishers are often looking for authors who are willing to reach out to their audience. I read a book called, "Get Known Before the Book Deal." It wasn't that useful except to make me realize just how important it is to market yourself as an author.
So marketing would be a good topic.

I've gone ahead and posted some information on your marketing thread. I hope you guys find it helpful.

I produced a short audio reading of someones story a while ago. It was sent electronically along with a submission to a publisher. A few weeks later I received a thank you email, as the author said the audio helped land a contract. It might not always happen that way, but if it happened once then it can happen again, right.
If anyone here would like one made then please get in touch with me. To hear a few readings please click the link in my name below.

You have a wonderful voice. As soon as I heard you speak the first line of the poem I listened to I was impressed. I will defintely get in touch with you about reading one of my books.

thanks! :)

Enjoy! Oh yeah, the first one I made was "My Wodan Day" - a short story I wrote for fun.

I really enjoyed listening to "Get up and go" and "The Dog's Party." I also sampled a few of the other readings such as "Inner Strength" and "What Heaven Means to Me". They were all terrifically read, especially with the different accents.
Incidentally, I started listening to the audio CD for Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince a few days ago and your style of reading reminds me of Jim Dale's narration. I always enjoy listening to people who can make words sing. I would love to hear what my book sounds like if you read it.

When you are ready you will hear a sample of your own book read by yours truly! If you want it all read by me then let me know.
Not bragging but I think my reading voice(s) is better than Jim Dale's...tee hee.

I have a question. I'm trying to figure out whether or not it is a technical glitch, but whenever I go to the writer's folder I cannot see all of the writers in the group. Earlier, I was trying to find Kirilee's thread and couldn't do so until she bumped it up to the top of the folder with a post. Now I am trying to find Annie's thread and cannot do so. At this point I can only see a maximum of 15 threads, but there are more than that. Are you or anyone else having this problem?

Long story short, I'll have my own biases, but they're based on thousands of hours of research, trial and error, and replicatable results. Whew. That was a long sentence.
P.S. I said hello here since the Welcome thread got a leedle outa hand. :D
