Great to see so many logged books already. We are on our way to another great year.

- Rachel, How did you like Asimov? Cave of Steel is one of my favorites.

- Martha, I would count Halfling's Gem, as that Icewind Dale trilogy brought R. A. Salvatore to prominence above many of the other authors in the Dungeons and Dragons genre.

I have been extremely busy lately, so my reading has been limited to catching up on the newest Muirwood books by Jeff Wheeler (recommended for anyone who likes decent fantasy). However, my son and I have managed a few classic kids books.

Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith, 1972, 93 pages.

Babe: The Gallant Pig by Dick King-Smith, 1983, 130 pages.

This was my second time with this lovely story. I had a road trip to take and was itching for a romance. Every girl dreams of having her own Capt. Wentworth.

Thanks, John! That's how I feel about Salvatore's books. I have the next 4 in the series. Had one and my middle son loaned me 3 more. Needless to say, I'm hooked. :-)

On the desktop version there is an button option to add book or author. Once a book is added (default) when you go back in you select author and generally the relevant author is shown at the top of the list.

This is my first round of Asimov. I had read that Star Wars was ripped off from Asimov books. So, I started to research the books and found the suggested reading selections for the series/world. I'm starting from the beginning and planning to read them all. I love his books! I've only read two of them I, Robot I read a few months ago but am reading it again now and Cave of Steel. I really enjoy them. His world is so amazing I'm just bummed I haven't started reading his books before. He's been on my TRL for a while and it's just now I'm just starting the enjoyment of his world. :)

I haven't read much of his science fiction, but read some of his mysteries ... both novels & short stories many years ago. Yes, he was a wonderful writer. I'll add I, Robot & others to my tbr if they aren't there already. :-)

Roberta McDonnell (robertajune) | 15 comments One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez (1967), 132 pages, Kindle edition by Penguin 2014, English translation, translated by Gregory Rabassa. A whirlwind read, magical and enjoyable, if a bit confusing. Left me wondering about relationships, perception and experience. I feel I will need to re-read this book from time to time since there's so much rich metaphor that it's hard to absorb it in one read. By all accounts an absolute classic.

For May, we have a special theme for the Read a Classic Challenge. That is right, it is time for 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

As long as it is a classic and you can make the connection with 6 degrees or less it is fair game! The following is a library website that offers an example!

Here are some easy ones (1 degree) from the film, Footloose.

Reverend, we have a little problem.
I heard the English teacher is planning to teach that book.
Slaughterhouse Five.
Isn't that an awful name?
That's a great book.
Slaughterhouse Five.
It's, it's a classic.
Do you read much?
In another town it's a classic.
In any town.
Tom Sawyer is a classic.
That's fine.
Ethel, have some more ham.
