That concludes my round. Thanks to all for the chance to read some really great works!

message 59: by Joe (new)

Joe Jackson (shoelessauthor) Quick question: reviews have to include the "I was given a free copy" disclaimer for these, yes?

message 60: by Marco (new)

Marco Peel | 143 comments Good question Joe, I haven't found that requirement specifically stated anywhere. As long as you acquire a book legally, I figure it doesn't really matter how you got it, otherwise friends, family and professional reviewers would have to put a similar disclaimer. I only put it if I think the reader deserves to know the book wasn't exactly my cup of tea. But I could be wrong...

Hock Tjoa (hockgtjoa) | 946 comments Thank you, Marco. Looks like you are all done before the first round is due.

Thanks T. S. for your second review and to Joe and Marie-Jo for your first review.

David, thanks for your R1 review, but you might want to check the link to Amazon UK ...

Hock Tjoa (hockgtjoa) | 946 comments Joe wrote: "Quick question: reviews have to include the "I was given a free copy" disclaimer for these, yes?"

Like Marco, I have not seen any rule as such. My own reviews did not have such a statement and no one pulled me over. But I now make a practice of including such a statement having noticed that it is reasonably wide-spread.

Do what you think is fair and appropriate.

message 68: by Allie (new)

Allie Cresswell | 120 comments Personally I never include the statement and if I did I would put it at the end of the review. I think it disengages the review's readers from reading further when it preambles the review, which is defeating for both reviewer and the book's writer. Also, I don't think it is really relevant. The means by which the reviewer received the book has no impact on their opinion of it.
But that's just my view. I don't think there's an 'official' line on this.

message 69: by Melinda (last edited Feb 28, 2016 07:23AM) (new)

Melinda Brasher | 81 comments I've heard that you should always put the "I got this book free in exchange for an honest review" statement if you got the book free from the author for reviewing purposes. Full disclosure and all that. But who knows. I put mine at the end because I agree with Allie that it might disengage readers. However, I think it might actually benefit independent authors, since it makes it clear that these reviews are not from biased friends and family.

message 70: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Brasher | 81 comments And thanks to those who have reviewed my book so far.

T.S. O'Neil (tsoneil) | 177 comments My reviews of Toru. 3 down, 1 to go.

message 72: by T.S. (new)

T.S. O'Neil (tsoneil) | 177 comments Based on comments from other authors and the moderators, I've decided to no longer comment that I received the book for free in order to furnish a review as I think it detrimentally affects the impact of the review.

Good idea. It's something many of us don't do. The more, the merrier.

Jeanine Lipp Sorry, I didn't now we were supposed to post our reviews here. This review was posted on February 28. Marie-Jo Fortis' "From A to Zoe."

/review/show...

My review on Amazon was posted the same day, but I just went to copy the link and it's not there. I'll retry and contact Amazon if it isn't posted.

message 94: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine Lipp I tried to post my review again and got the message that Amazon can't accept my review because I am connected to the author and can't leave an unbiased opinion. I am calling them now.

Jeanine Lipp I'm getting no response from Amazon about missing review for A to Zoe. I tried again under my husband's account, but see that it is not there 12 hours later. Here is my review posted on Amazon uk on February 28.

Allie, thanks for your second.
Jeanine, thanks for your first. The Amazon thing is intriguing.

Only three reviews are missing to date for the second round deadline of March 31!
