I 'have to' look every day but I try to be strong. I requested River Run by Nicole Alexander yesterday but haven't heard any thing yet.

I'm already way behind on netgalley and if I was looking everyday I would have to request because there are just so many great books on there. ;)

I completely understand :) I've got my total down to 6 though and am ahead (except for 1) with the reviews :)

message 909: by Elias (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I wasn't planning on getting any books today but I found Tick Tock by James Patterson just sitting there, unattended to on the shelf at Big W with a $5 price tag.

I attended to it.

Those little $5 James Patterson books are great. I'd buy them if other authors brought them out too.

message 912: by Elias (last edited Jul 22, 2016 08:51PM) (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments They certainly are, especially when the exact same books are going for $20 at places like Dymocks. I'd purchased others by him, both I, Michael Bennett and Gone at Dymocks a few weeks ago at $20 each only to find them going for $5 each on the shelf at Big W as well. It was at this point where I really started to question my intelligence.

LOL!

message 914: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9889 comments And I've seen all of those for $3 or $4 at Vinnies and Salvos

message 915: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9889 comments Came home from the library with two reserves that they ordered in at my request. They had book 2 of Jim C. Hines's Magic ex Libris series. I donated to them book 1 and they ordered three & four at my request so now I have Unbound and Revisionary to read (Phrynne and Carolyn's fault)

I picked up The Kept Woman by Karin Slaughter and finally gave in to The Dry by Jane Harper from Big W this morning :)

message 919: by Elias (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I think both of those were sitting in either the number 1 or 2 spot at my Big W. I also caved in a bit today and bought another one of James Patterson's $5 books - Merry Christmas, Alex Cross. I haven't read any of the Alex Cross books but this one really grabbed me and sounds like it works really well on its own as a story.

That was one of the first Alex Cross books I read too! It isn't his best but it is still pretty good:)

message 921: by Elias (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I'm looking forward to it!

There's something about thrillers set during Christmas or other holidays that really interests me.

Did you go to the launch last Thurs, Phrynne? I so wanted to go but little one was sick plus I was also just recovering so really couldn't :(
Got a friend to get me a signed book though & am picking it up tomorrow! **excitement**

No I'm happy just to have the book.
I am going to see Liane Moriarty talking about Truly Madly Guilty over lunch next Friday though. That should be good:)

Susan (goodreadscomsusanaustralia) | 452 comments Sounds good, Phrynne! You'll have to report back. I've heard Liane at the Sydney Writers' Festival and she's an entertaining speaker.

I received from my parcel post lady this morning Hack in a flack jacket by Peter Stefanovic for review :)

message 931: by Elias (last edited Jul 25, 2016 12:13AM) (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments THE Peter Stefanovic? Brother of that guy who isn't sure whether he's a QLD-ander or a NSW-ian?

message 932: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

message 940: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9889 comments so this is what the book whisperer eventually snuck into the house from yesterday's foray:
From Salvos, this lot all half price
three Sharon Owens books
The Tea House On Mulberry Street $2.50 so $1.25
The Ballroom On Magnolia Street $3 so $1.50
The Tavern on Maple Street $3 so $1.50
then
The Last Samurai which looked good $3 so $1.50
and Slade House $2.50 so $1.25

then at Vinnies:
Fangirl $3
an ARC of The Many Selves of Katherine North $3
The Girl in 6E $2
an ARC of The One Who Got Away $2
The Summer Before the War $3

ten books I didn't need!

Love it Marianne and since when is it about need?

message 942: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9889 comments with me it's always about "want"

Haha! Marianne "want" is a better word than "need" anyway ;)

I had The One Who Got Away recommended to me last night at my bookclub by our librarian :)

I just received from Simon & Schuster, Three Sisters, Three Queens by Philippa Gregory

I've never read this author before but know she's popular...

message 948: by Carolyn (last edited Jul 27, 2016 06:53PM) (new)

Carolyn | 9725 comments I've read a few of hers and she is very good Brenda. (I was tempted to ask for that one - but I've had too many NG books lately).

Sounds excellent - might have to go and see if it's still on Netgalley :)
