message 8: by Sylwia (last edited Mar 09, 2016 11:04PM) (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) My library doesnt have it. Am requesting an ILL. Ill be along when I can. Requesting #2 at the same time, strange they only have the more recent ones at my library.

message 9: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 280 comments For those of you who can't find it at the library, etc., and don't mind a small fee.... Amazon has the Skinwalker ebook for only $1.99.

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 280 comments Ok everyone! It's time to start!

Reading begins now!

message 11: by Vera (new)

Vera M. About to start this one.

message 12: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments First book came in today but I have an ebook that needs reading first, and a few others I'm behind in. This weekend I hope to spend reading and catching up.

message 13: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 280 comments Me too! I have the ebook, but I'm in the middle of a book from the library, so I want to finish that first!

message 14: by Cindy (Squin) (new)

Cindy (Squin) | 243 comments It figures...I signed up for the 3rd in the series because there were two others ahead of me, so thinking about the time I'll have access, I'll get it. I got an email yesterday that it's ready. Oh well, once I get done with my current one I'll start and then I'll hold off until closer to the 4th to ask for that one!

message 15: by Whitney (new)

Whitney (whitneychakara) | 80 comments I have this audiobook. Currently swamped with work and TBR but I'll try.

🐉 PrinZessBookDragon 👑🌶️ ok, I should have the first one by next weekend and I'll start then. :)

message 17: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments I'm 111 pages away from being able to start Skinwalker. It's my start goal for the evening. Just need to finish The Darkest Touch as it's ebook loan will end soon.

message 18: by Milena (new)

Milena | 19 comments I'll start this as soon as I finished my current book I'm reading.

message 19: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 280 comments I just started it yesterday, between visiting with a friend. I'm about 1/3 of the way through it, and I'm finding it pretty good. Intriguing. There is a good amount of mystery and so far I don't feel like I know what will happen, which is a definite plus. After reading so much PNR/UF books, I start to read between the lines as to the possible endings now... and this one is holding my attention!

message 20: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments 78/320 pages in.

I'm a touch confused why Jane *has* to have the boulders? Clearly something about her shifter side 'needs' them, but so far I can't figure out what for.

Some of the repeating info might get a touch tedious (tea ritual), but for a first book in the series it's pretty good so far. "Joe" I suspect is going to be a bad guy based on how stalker-y he seems.

message 21: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina (casper131979) | 3 comments I'm enjoying it so far. A few things I'm confused about but I'm enjoying that I can't figure it out.

message 22: by Paulette (new)

Paulette Myst, she needs something she *knows* has no DNA when she changes mass.

message 23: by Sylwia (last edited Mar 22, 2016 06:49PM) (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) Finally broke down and bought the first book. Quarter of the way through, not bad. A bit generic. Why do they all taste like early Anita Blake to me? This one has tea instead of coffee and a French vamp makes more sense in New Orleans than St. Louis. Still I like it so far. I have a guess about the villain of the piece, but we shall see.

message 24: by CassieCruel (new)

CassieCruel (faith_isola) | 471 comments The shifting description gets a bit repetitive for me

New Orleans is a big part of why I love it

message 25: by Milena (new)

Milena | 19 comments Finally finished the book. Found it very interesting.

She needs the boulder to gain mass when she shifts, totally different concept.

message 26: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments Why in the blazes does she wear a turban? Could a turban seriously contain all the weapons she puts in it?

The visual of this native american lady wearing a turban (middle eastern or erika badu style) just isn't working for me.

message 27: by CassieCruel (new)

CassieCruel (faith_isola) | 471 comments I like how the story and characters aren't that far fetched

lol, I do agree about that Myst! I was thinking the same thing!!

message 29: by Sylwia (last edited Mar 23, 2016 09:05PM) (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) Im a bit more than halfway through and the action scenes are good. Im impressed.

The turban sounded really weird, I agree. Also whats with all the dancing details.

Question: dates are July 15-August 5 for Black Arts, right? I need to request that one early from the library.

message 30: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments Halfway through and the action is finally picking up. It's not all tea parties and turbans anymore. I'd be further along except I had to pay attention to a tornado warned storm with large hail last night. (We got 2" of rain, wind and a bit of pea size hail, but if that section of the storm had been a mile further south...)

message 31: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 280 comments Sylwia wrote: "Question: dates are July 15-August 5 for Black Arts, right? I need to request that one early from the library. "

Black Arts
Reading Dates: July 21st - August 11th

message 32: by Sylwia (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) Just finished it. An acceptable ending. Wish there was more resolution. Looking forward to more, but glad we're taking it slow. I didnt call it but I was close. Hope we get more twins in the future.

message 33: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments Finished Skinwalker. The second half was much better than the first. No more weird turban weapon hiding lol.

message 34: by Paulette (new)

Paulette Myst wrote: "Why in the blazes does she wear a turban? Could a turban seriously contain all the weapons she puts in it?

I know, right? It still seems silly to me, but hey, I guess people can wear what they want, right?

message 35: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments Also the weight of everything in that turban...how does her neck not get tired...

The stakes to hold her bun were much more logical.

message 36: by Paulette (new)

Paulette Aaagh, I just pre-ordered Shadow Rites now I can't decide if I can wait to read it with y'all... well, I really want to re-read the series before I read the new one, because now that I re-read Skinwalker as part of the group read I'm realizing how much I forgot about the series.

So - I'll try to be good and wait for the end of September.

message 37: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 280 comments It's super hard for me to wait, too! I got book 1 and 2 at the same time, so I'd be ready for the next one, but it makes it tough to hold back! I'm a huge binge reader with series'.

I'm GOING TO HOLD BACK! I just have to keep telling myself that! lol

message 38: by Annie (new)

Annie Johnson | 50 comments Finally got the book from the library and found it to be an interesting first nook in a series. I actually don't mind it reminding me of the original Anita books as I liked those a lot.

I agree the turban was strange. Actually I just keep picturing her being this biker chick one moment and then a hippie the next lol

message 39: by Myst (last edited Mar 30, 2016 06:15PM) (new)

Myst | 108 comments Just learned there's going to be a spinoff series from the JY world coming out this aug.

Blood of the Earth (Soulwood, #1) by Faith Hunter and another release in nov: Curse on the Land (Soulwood, #2) by Faith Hunter .

message 40: by Sylwia (last edited Mar 30, 2016 06:40PM) (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) Looks like we'll be on Broken Soul around then. Wonder if we'll know Nell by then. Belated thanks to Ashley for the schedule.

message 41: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments Even if we don't, we'll be super fresh on the series to read the spinoff/s if we so choose to.

message 42: by Farren (new)

Farren (mmmcookies) I wanted to read this with everyone, and I need to read a book with a motorcycle on the cover for a challenge, but I have to give up on this one. The whole thing is just written like one big identity crisis, as if the author thought of a bunch of things that sounded cool and put it into one character instead of saving some ideas for another series. Sure there some unique aspects in the story, but I just don't think they are any good. As soon as Joe/Rick whatever his face is pulled out a saxophone I decided 36% was far enough for me. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next series we choose.

message 43: by Sylwia (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) I also find jazz/saxophones extremely unsexy, but it got better.

message 44: by Myst (new)

Myst | 108 comments Farren, the second half is much better. No more sax, no more turban.

message 45: by Vera (new)

Vera M. I gave it a chance and finished it. I am hoping the series gets better, as Ive heard good things about it. In this one everytime it started to hold my interest the author would go off on a description of something like pouring tea and it would pull me out. Sometimes I also felt like it wasn't very smooth transitions and jumpy. It has some interesting concepts and I wanted to like it, but it just didn't grab hold of me.

message 46: by Annie (new)

Annie Johnson | 50 comments I won't lie as I just finished the second one in the series and I thought it was better.

Yea the first half of the first book wasn't my favorite but once I got to the second half I thought it picked up for me.

message 47: by CassieCruel (new)

CassieCruel (faith_isola) | 471 comments I'm on book 5 now

message 48: by Sylwia (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) I'm happy to hear it. Some writers take a while to find their voice. Like Showalter's Alien Huntress Series. The first two are Anita with aliens.

message 49: by Annie (new)

Annie Johnson | 50 comments Sylwia wrote: "I'm happy to hear it. Some writers take a while to find their voice. Like Showalter's Alien Huntress Series. The first two are Anita with aliens."

Good Anita or bad Anita? ;) I might have to try them if they are like the original Anita books. I liked the concept of a mystery with a little romance. I don't mind sex scenes at all but I hate when they take over the story line.

message 50: by Sylwia (new)

Sylwia (sylwialovesloki) Back when she was good. But it is not slow burn by any means.
