Great mix of humor and creepiness. I'm worried the boys are going to provoke the witch. Already bad things are starting to happen. Like that lady beating the prisoner to death. And the town folk are acting like a mob, not wanting to give the guy a decent burial. Not looking good!
I understand why Tyler wants to break the whole secret wide open. To be a prisoner in your home town, and to have a girl-friend outside of town. The only way to keep her is to bring her into the fold. And she would resent him for the rest of her life.

It's interesting - two books in a row with mouths and eyes sewn shut.
The town itself is spooky. I had to laugh when the real estate agent was trying to dissuade the would-be buyers. The "you-don't-want-this" tactic is actually a great way to sell something. Reverse psychology.
Reading on....

At this point, the dystopia overwhelms the supernatural horror, though I have to say that I would be totally freaked if Katherine was to appear at the foot of the bed and stay there for three days.
One has to wonder if there is any cognitive function, or if her meanderings are just rote. But, she seems to be reacting - she approached Matt in the house, Griselda at the river, and there was a third one that I can't think of at the moment. The townsfolk seem to be alarmed when she does, like it's out of character.
Joydan is a nasty piece of work, and one has to know he's going to cause some major problems. His taunting of the witch was disgusting.
Tyler's interest is completely different than Joydan's. He's serious in his intent to find a solution, whereas Joydan's is just malevolent. There's going to be trouble as a result of both of them, regardless of their intent.
Reading on....
Yes, regardless of the characters' intent throughout this novel, bad things continue to happen. It's relentless. And I understand your anxiety. I had the same feeling reading this book.

Right away, I was confused. Went back to the beginning because I thought I missed something....apparently not. Sooo I am supposed to be confused at first. That always frustrates me in books, because I think I may have drifted off not paying close enough attention. It didn't take long to have some things explained though.
Over my frustration now and am liking what I've read so far.
Fletcher knows something wrong is lurking around. Please don't let anything happen to the dog!
lol! Had a reaction to Matt coming to the dinner table wrapped only in a towel. My parents would never have allowed us kids to be at the dinner table not fully clothed!
Can't wrap my head around "Gramma" being a physical being. You are not supposed to be able to throw washcloths on ghosts heads, nor trick them into running into things. Don't they "walk through walls"? If you approach them aren't you supposed to pass right through them?
Part of Katherine's story reveals that she was supposedly forced to kill her son in order to save her daughter. What actually happened to her daughter? Are there descendants?
Why is it okay to run over Kathrine/Gramma with a "carnival cart" by some townsfolk, but not okay for some kids to cause her to run into a lamppost? Will the Council punish both parties equally?
Dark humor in the scene of taking bets on where Gramma will first appear to the new couple in town.
Feel sorry for Tyler and the Delarosas being stuck in Black Spring.
WHAT do you mean you don't know what HEX is the acronym for? urgh!

First 11 chapters flew by, just started this yesterday afternoon. Finished a chunky dystopian book for another group, and picked this one up not knowing what to expect, other than trusting to SK's good judgement and the wisdom of this group. Much to like this far, but I feel uneasy for the village and our beloved main characters.

Thoughts so far. I like several others is appalled by Jaydins behavior with Katherine, and not to excuse it but his father was such a bully, he showed him that is is okay to treat women that way. I thought it was weird that Griselda is "talking" to Katherine! I'm not sure why she thinks she is helping the situation and bringing her food when her mouth is sown shut - she does have issues!
Poor Tyler just wants to have a life - I actually feel bad for all of the kids at Black Springs their life is nonexistent- poor kids!
Can you give someone a dishonorable burial??? And why - just because he didn't abide by the rules??? The people are breaking rules all of the time - I think the mayor and the council pick and choose who they are going to fine or give community service to.
The politics in this community are very dodgy, that's for sure. And yeah, I remember feeling bad for the kids.
