The Transmuted Tree | 13 comments A female cat burglar has tripped the alarm in a house she's broken into and she knows the cops will be arriving soon. So she puts on lingerie she finds in the house and covers her face in cold cream and when the cops show up she answers the door like that and acts like she lives there and accidentally set it off. They believe her and leave. I'm pretty sure this is from a Sidney Sheldon book, I just don't know which one.

The Transmuted Tree | 13 comments Right, so I'm thinking this is it; I just wanted to know if this scene is indeed from this book.

The Transmuted Tree's suggestion of If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon looks promising.

From Amazon's Preview: "...police arrived, they were greeted at the door by a woman wearing a filmy negligee. Her hair was tucked into a curler cap, and her face was thickly covered with cold cream." (p. 276)

One Amazon reviewer says: "Early on, for instance, when she breaks into a house and trips the alarm, she simply tells the cops that she's a guest at the house -- and they believe her."

One Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ reviewer describes the plot: "Tracy - a pretty, innocent young thing - tries to recover stolen property on the behalf of her mother (who killed herself in shame at letting herself be swindled out of her life savings). Before the first two chapters are over, Tracy's been framed, tricked into pleading guilty and then sentenced to fifteen years by a corrupt judge. Her rich fiancee dumps her to avoid associating with a felon (despite the fact that she's pregnant with his child)..."
