Congratulations Liam. That's awesome news. Boys are wonderful. I often think my boys are a piece of cake compared to my daughter. And yes, I checked out your Instagram pic!

message 811: by Liam (new)

Liam (leeman729) | 828 comments Thank you so much everybody ^_^. No names decided on quite yet. We had a bunch of girl names we liked, and unfortunatley not many boy names haha. So we're still waiting on a name that feels right =].

I come from a pretty big family (Three brothers, four sisters) and totally loved it, so I've always wanted a big family, too. To top it off me and Lily have wanted to be parents basically as long as we've been alive haha, so we're both super pumped ^_^.

Congrats, Liam! That's awesome. My husband and I have two girls and two boys. My oldest son was very mellow as a baby and toddler (still is and he's 13 now). Having had only sisters myself, I wondered what the big deal with little boys is, easy peasy and all that. Then our youngest son came along and all I can say is the Tasmanian Devil cartoon character is an apt description. If he can climb it, he climbs it. If he can fall off of it, he falls off of it. If he can break it, he breaks it. It's been an adventure. Best of luck to you and your wife. :-)

funnily enough my little sister when she was a baby she always had a way of getting around as a toddler and for some reason she always wanted to take out the video game covers and eat the paper and when she cried she knew how to belt it so if your kid is anything like my little sister Liam then your in for a treat :) :) :)

That sounds like my mom's experience with me and my older brother. My older brother was and is totally mellow, never gave them a problem; and I was a hyper-active, moody terror haha. We balance each other out at least, but if my son is anything like me, we're in for a handful =]. Thanks, Veronica!

If I can offer your first piece of baby advice.... keep your baby name secret when you do choose it. Don’t reveal it until the baby is born and you’ve named him. There’s always a jerk who goes “oh.... you picked THAT name or “I planned to name my baby that name ever since I was 12 years old!. Or there could be a situation where your friend who is further along than you has the baby, and names it your baby name (In our case it was Emelia, but my best friend spelled hers Amelia, but no hard feelings at all because we didn’t tell baby names).

message 817: by Liam (new)

This is excellent advise haha. Me and my wife already reached that conclusion, because when we were tossing around girl names with our families, all of a sudden EVERYBODY thinks they have a right to tell you what's a good name and what's a bad name haha. My dad went so far as to start calling the baby by a name we hadn't even considered every time we talked about it.

All that to say, I couldn't agree more =].

message 818: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 3613 comments And you'll inevitably get the "Oh I knew a so-and-so and I hated him/her!" story.

message 819: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 3613 comments It's funny thinking back to when my husband and I had our first baby, how careful and watchful we were about everything. Now I'm like, "don't worry about the germs...they build up immunity". Now my kids basically have three rules about when to bother mom...don't do it unless:

1. someone or something is on fire
2. there is excessive vomiting
3. there is a copious amount of bleeding going on

:-)

That's horrible! Nothing's more personal than a name. I must have gotten lucky. Although my husband and I are kind of reclusive so maybe we didn't tell as many people as I think lol.

message 821: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
Yes Veronica! Exactly my point!!! Once you go “this is baby ___ they have no influence on you!

Niki we have a large fam on my hubby’s side so there would be waaay too many cooks in the kitchen there. His bratty sister even said something after Colt was born and because that’s my baby she got my Satan stare lol

message 822: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
You just find your own criteria. As someone with a spelling that has annoyed me all my life just with that one little letter, spellability is one of my most important things. That and it can’t be too weird. All other bets are off, so we decided for a “western theme with our kids haha (Colt and Jolene).

My husband also tested out names by the “yell test if it seems right to yell their name then it fits our goals lol

THIS IS EXACTLY EVERYTHING I HATE haha. I can't mention a single name without somebody being like "Oh well there was a kid I knew in the third grade with that name; he sat in the back and picked his nose all day. Don't pick that name".

Um like sorry I don't care who you knew in 3rd grade, this is my child we're talking about haha.

Maybe first borns are just mellow ;-). Veronica my 13 year old is just mellow and easy as well. Always was as a baby too (Haha being my first it didn't seem like it at the time). Once his brother and sister came along I realised what an easy baby he was. Though he did also manage to be my climber, adventurer and explorer. He's the only one we ended up going to A&E for twice. My 12 year old (boy) was so such a fussy eater and sleeper. He drove me mental. It's funny as now he's easily the least fussiest out of my 3. My daughter decided to take the fussy title away from him I think (like her father).

We kept the baby names secret as well. My middle boy was the hardest to pick. We decided about a week before he was born, but weren't 100% convinced. Though, there does always seem to be at least 5 Williams in whatever school he's in, so he's one of many!

Liam (leeman729) | 828 comments I hope that the "mellow first born" thing holds out for me haha. Very good friends of mine just had a baby as well, and she is literally the happiest, most content baby I've seen in my life. I can't think of a single time I've seen her cry. When I met her for the first time (being a complete stranger), she crawled right into my lap and just sat there smiling for the next half hour while we were talking haha. I've never seen anything like that.

Do you just have the one 18 month old, Niki?

message 834: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Well I've had a mate who had a kid last year (I was suprised since he managed to keep it a secret from everyone in my school year) and from what I've seen from him and his kid when he brings him to uni he's really happy him and his girlfriend and he's cute as well although there are those things with babies

With my 9 year old sister (I have 4 but the other 3 are close to my age making her the odd one out) i experienced what it was like with the crying the nappies the vomiting and now she's very active and likes to run around and all that I think she has the most energy and free time out of all of us and pretty much does everything and tries to annoy us so much (we're kind of jealous of her actually) so you'll deffo have those problems however what boggles me is that despite this she still doesn't smile for pictures and I know I probably isn't the same relationship as a mother and father but it close 😂😂😂

Also on a side note I recently noticed my friend having greys in his hairs since he had the baby soooo there's that 😂😂😂

My first. Great baby... UNTIL 8 months old. Started waking up several times a night, driving me fucking crazy, etc.

My second. Complete hell raiser with the craziest stink eye you’ve ever seen from a baby. I’ll post a pic here, this is her general disposition... but you’ll notice that there is also her giving the middle finger in our family photo

As an aside, please ignore my husbands handlebar mustache. He literally grew it out just to piss me off

message 842: by Andrew (new)

Andrew | 653 comments With our three-year-old daughter, no one said anything negative about her name (Natalie). And we told people the name a full 4 months prior to birth, meaning they had ample opportunities to complain. But no one said a peep.

On the other hand we've had tons of rude comments with our baby foster son. We are very white...and he is very black...and his name clearly sounds like an African American name. I think that makes people uncomfortable, to the point that people have literally recommended we change his name. And that just blows me away on so many levels. First, we legally CAN'T change his name, since he is a ward of the state; we're not legally his parents. And even if we're able to eventually adopt him (fingers crossed and God-willing), what's wrong with his name, huh? Not Anglo-Saxon enough for you? Gets all my papa bear instincts firing...

message 843: by Chris (new)

Chris (murphy44) | 710 comments When we were naming our kids we were pretty set on the first one (Sean), he's almost 8 now, but the second one changed a few times right up until he was born. We told everyone that were going to call him Elijah but I was iffy on that name. One day I liked it and the next I'd be thinking of alternatives. In the end, we decided on an alternate name from our first child that I didn't like at the time, Tristan. Sean wanted to name him Julien, so we went from, EJ to TJ pretty much on the week before the birth. Funny story about the first, we named him Sean Patrick Murphy. Anne wanted Sean, so I chose the spelling after my brother, I wanted Patrick because of the Great Big Sea song "Patty Murphy". And then a week after he was born we thought it was a unique name and we were happy. Then we went to the theatre to watch Avatar and one of the main actors in the movie is Sean Patrick Murphy, we kind of grumbled a little...

Margret

A name used to describe someone who is amazing and excells in everything they do. They are outgoing, athletic and brings smiles on everyones faces. Many people look up to them and love them so much. They are pretty and always are there for you.

"Margret is amazing; I wish I was with her right now."
