Have you looked him up on IMDB?... I don't think you need to worry much about him becoming an A-list actor that everybody knows by name...

Iain Smith is a movie producer for such movies as Entrapment, Children of Men, The A-Team, and Mad Max: Fury Road... I remember noticing that in Entrapment 15yrs ago...

I skimmed it and I think superstar is a BIT questionable hey I liked name of the wind but I don't think its amazing thanks to the idiotic hype train this series has

I don't know if I'm being mean to say that I don't think he fully deserves it he's a good writer and maybe I'll do a 180 when I read wise mans fear or something but I honestly think there are far better writers out there but who knows I'm just a rothfuss hater right hahaha

Thanks for the link, Chris. I did find it interesting.

Quote from the article: "Today, the third and final volume remains unpublished, and everywhere Rothfuss goes, fans ask when it will be ready. “They don’t realize this is so wearying, he said with a sigh when we spoke a few weeks ago. “It’s like asking, ‘When are you going to get married? When are you going to go to law school? It’s like, just fuck off. Just die. I don’t need any more of that in my life."

I don't think I feel comfortable endorsing his books anymore. He sounds like an egotistical, entitled SOB. It almost sounds like he's not writing the third book just to spite everyone who wants it to come out. Very unprofessional. What a horrible attitude.

Okay, I'm done.

The whole "Just die. I don't need any more of that in my life" thing is so immature. Like, you became a successful writer, and you have fans who care about your books enough to ask about the third one.... and this how you respond?

I agree with you, Niki.

message 870: by Ahdam (last edited Oct 30, 2017 11:32AM) (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Yeah I'm not sure either because I saw livestream he did a while ago and he said and I honestly hope he was joking that if you want the third book you must help him impeach trump

Now I don't like that clueless idiot and I'm assuming most of us don't like him either but if he was actually serious about this then I think its disgusting of him to bribe his fans like that and he's lucky that I thought his first book was alright for me to continue but I'm honestly not impressed with what he said

I'm ending it here I rather not lose friends due to political differences or other disagreements

Niki Hawkes - The Obsessive Bookseller | 7639 comments Mod
It baffles me. You can't have success without fans who invest time and energy into your work. I've ranted this before, but publishing is a business first, and he's treating it like the world owes him something. I don't think I've ever seen an author with such a bad attitude. Like we, as fans, are the ones who are in the wrong for expecting him to follow through on his commitments as an author. Very immature, I agree.

message 874: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I agree Niki obviously some fans can be very violent when a book takes a long time and I like to think where not because we know the author doesn't owe us anything and as gaiman would say authors aren't our bitches but I think having a bad attitude isn't really gonna help your case with these fans and with people like Martin who know he's a slow writer and all that at least he doesn't have that attitude at least I think he doesn't

message 875: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 5839 comments I agree Niki. He would not have a successful career without his fans. The disrespect is disgusting. I could care less about the rest of his series now.

The authors comments make me kind of glad I DNF'd his book. How can he not expect that people will ask him when the next book is coming out? He's written two full length novels (correct me if I'm wrong). Yes, they've been successful, but I don't see how he can have the attitude he does? Other authors that take ages, you know that they might be struggle with something (depression) or have a ton of other commitments, side projects which make it more difficult to produce the next book in a series. How can you tell you fans to fuck off. So unprofessional.

message 881: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new)

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
What an asshole. See, these things have a ripple effect. 5ish people here just now have said they won’t read his books now just because of his one comment. If you were running a regular business, and people asked you when their order was going to be ready, or why there was a delay and you said “just die, then good luck feeding your family.

Sure, writers block happens and sometimes people’s lives change but that does not in any way mean that it’s acceptable to speak to people that way. It is incredibly childish.

Exactly, it if was writers block, the author can just say," Look I've got writer's block". People (except for internet trolls) would understand.

message 883: by Yanique, Thread Master (new)

Yanique Gillana | 2724 comments Mod
I agree with @Angela.

He could just say I have writers block. If all the questions really bother him then when given a platform such as an interview, he should explain his writers block and tell fans that the continuous questioning is making it worse. Most of his readers would be understanding, we want his new book, but we understand that he needs to actually write it. I am hopeful that this was simply a joke in poor taste.

Dani | 577 comments Angela wrote: "Exactly, it if was writers block, the author can just say," Look I've got writer's block". People (except for internet trolls) would understand."

Exactly!
I dnf'd his first book so for me he can take as long as he wants to, but if this had been an issue for me I would've unfriended/unfollowed him right now because an author shouldn't go on social media if he cannot stand being asked when his next book is due. I've never heard of such complete unprofessional behaviour and I wonder if he realises how this could backfire on his reputation if not his sales numbers if he keeps this up. He had better not react at all than react in this way to people.

I'm usually doing audio while driving, jogging/walking/hiking/stationary bike/elliptical, doing chores in the house or yard or just before bed lying down. So it's never really an issue for me.

I thought it would make me sleepy and didn't try until yesterday but yesterday before sleep I said lets try this once. I started lying down and at the end I was pacing around my room with my arms crossed :) Guess you are right I have to be on something else if I do this again.

Most people I hear who listen to books in bed do re-reads... they are favorite books, and they have a vague recollection of what is going to happen... less hand-wringing Beste :)

message 890: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I'm still finding a book to do this with but I'm leaning toward doing the rest of the wheel of time series after dragon reborn on audio or the red rising book since everyone here likes Tim gerrard Reynolds and if that doesn't work I'll just reread riyria on audiobook so there's that

I am usually driving or doing stuff in the house (such as ironing, cooking) when I listen to an audio book, I am never just sitting/standing around, so it's no issue for me either. I couldn't listen to a book lying down (couch or bed) cause I fall asleep eventually when I do.

Seriously wow! David Eddings 10 book series was enough for me, can't imagine 40 books in one go. I will just lie to myself that you only were able to finish it because they were audiobooks :)

message 896: by Timelord Iain, Tech Support (new)

Timelord Iain | 33077 comments Mod
I really got addicted to the In Death series... it was one of my first forays into audiobooks... and it really clicked... the novellas were a nice change-up every 3-4 books... the main series is basically traditional mysteries set 60yrs in the future with hover cars and such... but the novellas are all supernatural in nature... either Urban Fantasy or fairytales... Dallas plays the skeptic to Peabody's believer... all very X-Files, leaving enough magic to keep believing

Except for the one where Dallas got semi-possessed by the ghost of a Romani gypsy and spoke Romanian and knew things she shouldn't be able to to solve the crime...

I'm the same way.
I have to be doing something. If I lay down and try to listen, I fall asleep. Twice my mom has woken me up because I feel asleep with my glasses still on, wearing headphones and listening to a book.
