Just a spot to say if you are interested, planning to read, can't possibly read, if you'll provide the rest of us with chocolate, etc.

message 2: by Mikhail (new)

Mikhail | 10 comments ...there's chocolate? SOLD.

Anyway, I am intrigued so I will give it a shot.

message 3: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
My friend average is 4.15... I have hopes.

message 4: by Naomi (new)

Naomi | 10 comments The county has 2 copies available and no holds so I might get it soon, but I'm busy until Sunday.

Oh right! Hi, I'm Naomi. Nice to meet you. I'm good with books but mediocre with people. I hope we all enjoy the book!

message 5: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
I hope we all do too.
And I have chocolate, although I'm trying to eat less of it. And not succeeding.

message 6: by Bee (new)

Bee (benbarian) | 3 comments I'm good with books but mediocre with people. I hope w..."

I like you already.

I have read this little Gem, and thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact my gf is currently reading it, and liking it.

message 7: by Saphana (new)

Saphana I'll start tomorrow (Friday) afternoon on a re-read.

Also, I have gummybears (organic and 50% fruit-juice). I'm sharing :)

message 8: by Athena (new)

Athena (athenapn) | 24 comments Woot for timing - got Long Way at county library y'day!

Hi, I'm Athena: insomniac book reader. Yum, gummybears!

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 122 comments Mod
I need to grab a copy but I'm in.

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily | 24 comments Hi, all. Thanks for inviting me, Carol!
I will give it a whirl. I'm starting grad school next week, so that will probably slow down my pleasure reading. It's been quite a while since I was a student.
So if you start seeing posts from me several weeks after you're all done talking about it...that's why.

message 11: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
Emily--Ohh, grad school Good luck!! That explains Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City :)

Saphana--gummy bears! I haven't had those in ages. Fun.
MrsJ--great! I think it may be in our wheelhouse of ultimately uplifting.
Bee--hope you'll add your insights. I always enjoy them when you have time to write.

message 12: by Amanda (new)

Amanda NEVER MANDY (crazedjane) Amanda here and I'm sorry but I can't possibly read right now (not available at my local library).

Oh and I already ate all of the chocolates. ;)

Please don't boot me though, I'm interested to see how things go.

message 13: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
I won't boot you. It wasn't available at my library either, when I first heard of it, but luckily it is now!

message 14: by Arie (new)

Arie (notarie) Definitely interested/planning to read! It's on hold for me at the library now so hopefully arrives at my branch quickly enough...

Though I'm actually currently out of chocolate, which is an emergency situation which must be rectified ASAP

message 15: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ordered it from the library today, I'll probably get it early next week. Yay chocolate!

And thank you for the invite :)

message 16: by Beth (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 54 comments E-book for me. Hi everyone!

I honestly don't know a lot about this book except that it's character-centric and is optimistic? That was enough to put it on the to-read and here we are.

message 17: by Mimi (new)

Mimi (1stavenue) | 12 comments Yes, it's a very heartwarming read. I think someone on the book page even calls it a feel-good book, and it definitely is for me. I finished it early this year and already I look forward to rereading it, but I'm somewhat short on time so I can't join in the fun. I'll follow along with discussions though.

Wishing you all a wonderful time with this book. :)

message 18: by Nataliya (new)

Nataliya | 5 comments I read it last month and loved it - and now have an excuse for a re-read!
Sending virtual chocolates to you all.

message 19: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
Mmm, I confess, I strongly prefer chocolates over gummy bears. But I'm pretty certain I've heard of someone making an unholy combination of the two...

Mimi! Glad you'll follow.
Beth--here's hoping it'll break the slump.
Nataliya--so glad to hear you enjoyed it, as our tastes and sensibilities often align. Hope it's light on the on-call this week for you :)
Arielle-glad you'll join in. But I am very, very concerned about this situation you are in. No chocolate? Not even chocolate chips? Oh-oh. I think that counts as a medical emergency.
Heidi--glad to see you here--wasn't sure how much sci-fi you read but I enjoy your insights.

message 20: by Carly (new)

Carly (dawnsio_ar_y_dibyn) | 2 comments I read it a bit ago, and I think it's definitely one of the lighter and most heartwarming sfs I've read in a while. I've been heartily recommending it to friends and family who prefer their spec fic on the fluffy side. At the same time, I ended up with some strong reactions to spoilery plot points. I plan on lurking around to see what you all think of those aspects. :)

message 21: by Bee (new)

Bee (benbarian) | 3 comments I'll definitely be adding any little insights I gain, but it will mostly be based on my spotty memory and the titbits y'all leave here. I would love to reread this, but I am currently deeply stuck in Fall of Hyperion audiobook (and the 2 following that), and The Man Who Fell In Love with the Moon as a paperback (and golly am I reading slowly at the moment)

message 22: by Bee (new)

Bee (benbarian) | 3 comments Also thanks Carol. I love reviewing books on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. It's really highlight for me

message 23: by Inkdeathinbloom (new)

Inkdeathinbloom | 10 comments Not sure how a flash read works, but I'm looking forward to cramming this book this weekend. It's been on my list to read for a good while.

message 24: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
Glad you joined, Amelia and you made me laugh. :) I made it up, modeled on the idea of flash mobs. Basically a group read without tons of planning. Most of the discussion happens rather quickly.

message 25: by Inkdeathinbloom (new)

Inkdeathinbloom | 10 comments Carol- I really like the idea! Usually I only ever have time to read in spurts, and then I sit and cram read a few books in a weekend or something, so this version is a nice invention :)

message 26: by Arie (new)

Arie (notarie) I'm a little late but the book has finally arrived at my library! I'll try and catch up fast =)

message 27: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
Yay! It's a fast read.

message 28: by Apatt (new)

Apatt | 8 comments I just bought the e-book today after reading the 28 pages sample. It's ok so far. I'll be back after finishing it.

message 29: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
Look forward to your thoughts, Apatt. I'm re-reading now in prep for my review.

That's what I need to do, too.

But I am sooo behind on reviewing IDK what's going to come out, lol.

Copy your comments from the threads :)

message 32: by Beth (last edited Sep 21, 2016 11:19AM) (new)

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 54 comments I've been doing all my thinking about the book while participating in the group, which has been cool, but has also meant I feel a little tired when I ponder creating a review that involves yet more thinking about it--my current review is a beyond-lazy couple of sentences and link to the group. So this tempting. Or to reform the posts into something that makes sense as a review and has fewer spoilers.

message 33: by carol. (new)

carol. | 126 comments Mod
For sure, Beth. Nothing wrong with it. You added a lot of insight and shared many interesting thoughts. You've got your review practically written. :)

Apatt | 8 comments Carol. wrote: "Look forward to your thoughts, Apatt. I'm re-reading now in prep for my review."

You will read it all over again to write a review? Now that's dedication! :) I try to review books immediately after I finish them (or not more than a day after) because I have a memory like a sieve! (´∀`*)

Oh, I'm a die-hard skimmer, particularly lately. Idk why. Maybe my eyes are going. I have reading attention deficit, and I just want to know the ending asap.

LOL! Yippee-ki-yay - uh - etc.
I think the spaceship life in the first chapter is quite vividly described, A.C. Clarke used to do that very well.
