Useful SFF links
Here is the link to the page that has many different translations. Spanish, Italian, Finnish, Hebrew and a few others.
I've been getting a little too excited by short stories at the moment, particularly . Anywhere between 15-100 pages, these are perfect for dipping into a world, story, or idea. Lots of known authors, and a load of ones I've not encountered before.
Perhaps a little pricey for how many pages, but I love Tor so I don't mind too much. Most are around 0.37p, or 0.60p ish. Plus look out for the "best of" anthologies they release for free on there too. All DRM free.

Agh! Kindle :) No luck for me, however I agree it can be really good, particularly if you have just finished a long series and don't know what to read next, they can help peak your interest :)

You can use kindle app on smart phone and desktop if you are interested :P

I use the Kindle app on my iPhone occasionally, the text size is clear and good. You can change the spacing and text size if you want. It's really no different to a Kindle in some ways. I've never experienced any problems :) (and I'm a glasses wearer!)

I do this quite often and have no problems, you have to increase text size to make it readable but it works well for me. I also changed the background color to a tan color and that makes a big difference.

Possibly depends on the phone quality. I've only just upgraded to a Galaxy S5 so probably more feasible on it than my previous phones.
Ahaha thanks :)
I used to have something on my phone (just google books for the out of copyright classics), but I find reading on a screen hard - long distance learning via the net is fun and games... I often end up printing what I need to read because nothing goes in.

Always worth downloading and having a play I think, the app is free, and as much as I love physicals, things like the tor.com originals aren't really something you can buy physically. There are also some good deals!
I still don't want to move away from the physical books to be honest. Ebooks just don't appeal as a format. I know I miss out on a few offers as above but I live in hop they appear in a physical Anthology at some point anyway

Fair enough!
I hope that I always lean heavily towards physicals. But I can't resist a good story :D

It would probably save me money and space getting a kindle - I'm still dreaming of one day having a library of my own with a fireplace, armchairs and blankets for cold winter days... one can dream, right? :D
I'd love it. Luckily enough I have three ceiling high bookshelves surrounding our fireplace but not a full library room yet.
This is one side of the fireplace

Oh good god that is awesome! :O
I have a total lack of space at present so they are piled on the floor!

We got a carpenter to custom build for the alcove sizes. Sadly we have that plus half the width the other side as well as a bookshelf in our storage room.
Paul I'd kill to have 6 bookshelves. I'm always looking at spots in the house thinking is it possible to fit one there

I've got 3 tall bookcases at the moment, in a room I've specified as my library. At the moment this means there are bookcases with books on them in there. I could really do with a chair... It's a small room, but I could probably squeeze one more bookcase in!
That's a great shelf, Paul! I really like it. :)
And thanks Kirsty for reviving this thread. I hadn't actually seen it and I have a ton of great links, which I use for my daily SFF research, here we go:
SF Signal:
Fantasy Book Critic:
Fantasy-Faction:
Staffer's Book review:
A Dribble of Ink (just won the Hugo):
A Fantasy Reader (He is awesome, cause he has a collection of maps on his site for almost all the bigger fantasy series, so I use him a lot to have a map of the book I'm reading always at hand on my desktop) :
The Biblosanctum:
Grimdark Reader:
risingshadow:
Fantasy Literature:
I hope some of those might be of interest for you. Between them, I found a lot of interesting reads I might never have come up with by myself. Enjoy!

Most of the have been around a couple of years and have a great backlog.
I usually check all of them bi-weekly, others daily, cause they have daily content.

I think our shelves are mostly our favourites and collectables but we're both big readers so keek it nice and full

I hope you enjoy them. :) And I think Kelley was looking for maps last week and I already linked her to the site. That might be why it's already on your blog.
Speaking of which, as she was too modest to shamelessly self-promote, Leanne has a great blog as well with two fellow bloggers and you should check it out here:
They have some great features and some of our Dragons & Jetpacks members like Rinn or Ren f.e. did guest posts for them.
Their blog goes beyond reading and includes a lot of bookish lifestyle posts.
Eye candy bonus: Leanne is an awesome artist and you can see some of her work on the site as well.

Sci fi month looks very cool . Ive peaked at Rinns blog before and I'm impressed. I've only ever tinkered in that sphere but do web sites for map projects.

Actually we have a lot of amazing and talented members of this group that share their love for the genre or reading in different forms on the internet.
Another blog I'd like to add here is the one by Nara and Chantelle, which you can find here:
They're doing a lot of book reviews (if you're part of the Avengers vs X-Men challenge you may know that Nara has the superpower of reading speed), not only of SFF books, but also some YA.

Wait, what do you mean Rinn updated this???
It only took months ;)
I've also added a section for blogs of our members. Let me know if you want your own listed on there :)

Sure, we can just make a different header under this thread :) It seems we have plenty of fans of that in the group anyway so it's certainly appropriate!

Wow! How did I miss this thread for so long?! I was indeed reading one of the short stories on Tor this morning in bed on my phone :D
It's all a matter of time too - I tend to dip in and out of links and sites rather than read them all regularly. I often have publishers/sites/blogs/authors in a themed feed on facebook so I can keep an eye on things :)

I’m case anyone’s memory is as bad as mine, I have come across which if you’re lucky re caps books quite well if there is a long period between reading. I’ve used it a couple of times and it has made the jump back into some series a lot easier.
