Hi Laurette, its the author as well as the book that is important. The idea is that you don't review an author who has reviewed you, so that we avoid any possible accusation of bias in our reviews. I'll add your book here if you like but by the look of it it'd also fit in the romance and 18+ categories. It would just depend on what you prefer to read.

Thanks Emma, no, just checked again regarding the authors no clash that I can see. I understand what you're getting at regarding signing up for the romance group, so as not to read outside a particular comfort zone, but as a reader I'm pretty eclectic so would be happy to stay with this group if that's not a problem?

On your current list, I have reviewed Els' book.

Thanks a lot Emma! (If you're stuck and too many people want to join this group, you can switch me to Romance, I have just re-checked the authors/books on there, the only author I know so far is Ju Ephraime, downloaded her book 'Chasing Love' but that's not one she's offering and haven't read/reviewed it anyway)

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.
It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. Everyone must be able to provide and accept PDF. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines.
When you have posted your reviews, please post the three links to your reviews, not the book page in this thread.
All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.
Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.
If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.
To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). Happy reviewing, everyone :)
Thank you, Emma, for putting all that together.

Of course its up to every member, we all have different amounts of time available, but I'm sure each and every one of you would appreciate a heads up if a reviewer spots one of those pesky typos etc.
I'm always open to friend requests on goodreads. I've met 'virtually' a lot of lovely people on this group and some in the flesh.
Its a great way to gather a writing support network, people that understand what its like to be an indie author, which, for many, can be an isolated existence.
Hi, Dave Clarke: Thanks for your message, I tried to message you back but failed to persuade the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Captcha that I'm not a bot. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that you don't have to send me anything â€ I've got Mutual Justice on Kindle Unlimited and I'm looking forward to reading and reviewing it.
Best wishes,

Hi Emma
I think I love being "In the World".
But I have already reviewed Els so she can't review me, isn't it?

It should make much of a difference to the rest of you.
(I blame the drugs).

**** Important message for everyone esp group admins. Amazon has just announced they'll be pulling all reviews that say review in return for a free copy. Please advise admin. I never use the wording but a lot of reviewers do. Expecting more reviews to disappear as I rely mostly on book bloggers. Sigh. ****

I'm not sure that will apply to book reviews Diana, especially as its an established practice in the publishing industry. From the article, it will apply to physical products, plugs, tables, lights etc rather than digital products.
I don't put that disclaimer in my reviews anyway, but many people are under the impression that its required by US Federal law. It isn't. They are simply guidelines.

Got it Emma. Thanks.
And on a side note:
As AUTHORS you send your book file to: means that the person has to send his / her book to the 4 people listed below the name.
As REVIEWERS you will receive books for review from: means that the person will receive books from the 4 authors listed below his / her name.

Am just going to check the list of people to review/people who will review my book, I am a member of KU so can read anyone's book who is enrolled in the scheme, also Hot Basque is enrolled, so vice-versa.
Thanks, and happy reading everyone!
As I understand it, you do have to say you got the book free (if that's the case) but you don't have to add "in exchange for an honest/unbiased review". This is an Amazon requirement, not a legal one. The new rules on incentivized reviews don't apply to books, so reviews based on free review copies are still acceptable. As Emma says, this is an established practice in publishing.

You'd have more chance of being successfully prosecuted in the USA for not putting in such a disclaimer as a minor reviewer as you would winning the lottery every week for a decade. They really have bigger fish to fry.
Amazon are far more interested in paid reviews.
Its up to you whether you include the disclaimer or not. Its a personal ethical issue, not a legal one.

In fact it's an advantage if we do reviews via KU, isn't it, as that counts as an ordinary 'borrow' without having to specify anything?

Very good points. Thanks for that. It doesn't look like we have much to worry about.

Only adult fiction involving concrete contemporary or past situations can be included. Mysteries, thrillers, action and adventures, contemporary/historical romances, literary fiction etc. No aliens, elves, vampires, stories set in the future, non-fiction or children's books.
If you are only willing to review your own preferred genre, make sure you join a genre round. Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate personal preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.
Let’s be honest here we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
/topic/show/...
Now for the boring stuff, but please read it, it saves a lot of time if everyone is on the same wavelength.
Before signing up below with your goodreads author and goodreads book link in the thread below, please ensure that:
1. You have enough time to read and review 4 books within the time allowed.
2. Your book is currently available for sale on amazon (not pre-0rder) and it complies with the individual round theme, if there is one.
3. Your book is fit to be reviewed. If it is not, due to editing or other issues, you risk poor reviews.
4. You can submit reviews to goodreads, amazon.com and amazon.uk. Amazon has recently changed their criteria for reviewers to allow only those people who have spent $50 on amazon. If you are unsure about your amazon reviewer status, try posting a ‘test review before signing up.
5. You can provide (and accept) at least PDF files. Many authors can also provide mobi and epub files. You are not expected or required to buy the books you are allocated to review. Some authors borrow books via KU and others provide smashwords coupons or gift copies. This is their choice; you do not have to accept or provide a gift. International Copyright laws apply. You cannot sell, or give away material you have received for review without the author’s express permission.
6. It is up to individual reviewers to comply with guidelines about disclaimers concerning receiving a book in exchange for a review. International laws differ, we are not the review police but this group does not contravene goodreads rules.
7. You have completed all your reviews if you are currently in another review round in this group. You can be involved in the ‘one for one list whilst you are in a review round.
8. You have an author profile set up before you join.
9. Your goodreads profile allows people to message you, i.e. your profile is not set to private.
10. You declare any relationship you have with another member in the round. Amazon will not allow reviews from the same household on the same book or if you are an editor, relative or close friend of another member.
11. You agree to post honest reviews of the books you are allocated, whatever the star rating and try to avoid ‘spoilers.
12. You will not ask a fellow author to change a review simply because you don’t agree with it. If you think you have a legitimate concern, talk to the mod of your round, NOT the other author. Personal attacks, or pressurising other members WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.
13. Not fulfilling your obligations to fellow group members or behaving inappropriately, will result you being blacklisted from the group and other members who have reviewed you will asked to remove their review of your book.
14. Your goodreads details and the rounds you participate in will be recorded by the admin mod on a database. We do not retain details of email addresses etc.
The founding principle of the group is honest non-reciprocal reviews, so please help maintain the integrity of the group by letting me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group. Usually places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
I will do my best to fit everyone into the group they request, but occasionally, particularly in the case of our more prolific members I may have to decline a member’s request in order to fit the maximum number of people into a particular round.
It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available.
If you need anything clarified please ask, either by goodreads personal message to me or on the thread below, before signing up. It’s a pain to have to keep rearranging the list because people haven’t read the above.
