MJ | 900 comments For this week, I am reading Orson Scott Card's InterGalactic Medicine Show by Card and Edmund R. Schubert. (It's actually a collection of shorts).

This was a book I planned to read (too late) for a category from last's year's challenge. Since I already had it in hand, I decided to fit it into my 2017 reading.

Do I think the title is fitting? The "intergalactic" part yes, the "medicine" part? Not sure. It's an anthology of short stories from card's online mag of the same title. Maybe sci fi shorts can be medicinal?

I'd keep the title. :)

Amanda Summers | 27 comments This week I am reading: Fantastic beasts and where to find them - the Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling.

I didn't have many books with long titles so yes it was a little bit difficult to find.

The title is perfect. It's the name of the movie so I couldn't/wouldn't change a thing.

Claudia | 19 comments For this topic I read The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber. I had this book on my physical TBR for over a year, so it was about time to finally read it.

I found a few books with long titles on my TBR, but not an exceptional amount.

Another title wouldn't fit the book as well as this one does. I wouldn't change it at all.

message 6: by Emily (new)

Emily (emilyesears) | 412 comments What are you reading this week?

The Civil Wars of Julia Ward Howe

Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?

Nope, I actually had planned to put this under the nonfiction book prompt, but realized that it had 7 words (and no subtitle) shortly before finishing the book.

- Do you think the title was fitting for the book?

Yes, the book is both about the impact of Julia's poem The Battle Hymn of the Republic (which is set to an already-existing Civil War tune that she was commissioned to create new lyrics for) on her life and legacy AND her domestic "war" at home with her husband, who wanted her to be a more traditional wife for the period.

If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?

Honestly, I think the title is clever and fits well with the themes of the book, so no I would not change it.

- Do you think the title was fitting for the book? yes, Estonian translation is 'You next to me and the world between us', English title is quite short: 'Everything, Everything'. Estonian translation fits better. :)
- If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book? The Estonian title fits well. :)

Crisanda | 39 comments What are you reading this week?
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?
Not really. I thought it would be hard at first, but then I found quite a few titles in my TBR that were about 5-6 words long. All the ACOTAR trilogy books fit too, but this one is by far the longest.

Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
It is a riduculously long title, but yes, it's fitting.

If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?
I would keep the title, because not only is it fitting, but it is also mysterious and eyecatching and intriging to anyone hearing of it for the first time.

No, I picked this book for another challenge and it happened to fit this prompt too.

- Do you think the title was fitting for the book?

yes, the title sums up its content.

- If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?
I wouldn't change the title, I think it explains pretty well what the book is about.

The title of this book was changed to The Death of Dalziel which does mean the same but I have no idea why it was changed

Not really. It has been on my TBR for quite sometime.

- Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
Haven't finished reading it but so far I think it fits.

- If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?
Yes, but I have seen another title for the same book. "My grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry". Good thing its equally long.

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?
Omg yes! After a lot of looking, I finally came up with one, and then shortly after, I found out that I would have to read this for school, and was delighted that it fit the week.

Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
Yes. Kinda. I'd take out the word "diary" though, because it tends to turn the boys in my class off, and this is very much a book that can be enjoyed by boys

If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?
I'd give it a shorter, edgier title. This title was cute and quirky, much like the main character, but it's not very appealing. Or I'd swap out the word "diary" with the word "story"

Kelley Stoneking (kstoneking) | 90 comments What are you reading this week? The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman

Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title? I had one other I considered for this category. And I knew if I needed to, I could shuffle titles later. But since I figure out the category after I read the book, no, I didn't have a hard time.

Do you think the title was fitting for the book? I wasn't sure how Christ was the scoundrel until now that I had to think about it. So yes, it fits.

If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book? His title is definitely intriguing. It made me want to know what the story was that he'd written. So I'd probably keep it just as is.

MJ, medicine shows toured the countryside (or in this case the galaxy?) and provided entertainment while the doctor sold his "medicine."

The House with a Clock in Its Walls

Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?
Not really. There are quite a few lengthy titles in my TBR pile; I just ended up using this one for the prompt since I couldn't think of anywhere better for it that I didn't already have something planned for.

Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
Very!

If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?
I think I would keep the existing title. If I had to change it, I'd probably go with something like "Lewis Barnavelt and the Izard's Clock".

- Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?
No, I actually had another one picked out (Grief Is the Thing with Feathers, by Max Porter) but adjusted to read the February book along with the group.

- Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
I'm barely into it so I'm not sure but I'm guessing the inability to see is a reference to the blind character and the contradiction has to do with the conflicting nature of war. (Just a guess).

- If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?
I would keep it.

Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?
Kind of. It was hard finding a 5+ word title where there wasn't a bunch of the's, a's, and to's.

Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
Yes, the title was a good fit.

If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author's title? If not, what title would you give the book?
I'd keep the author's original title. It fits the story.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson

- Did you have a hard time finding a book with a long title?

No, I found that a lot of titles are either one word to the point types or long and winded.

- Do you think the title was fitting for the book?
Yes, by gods yes! This is totally relatable to the book, Lisbeth is a girl who's be done wrong by and said nothing for so long and now she's speaking up and out in a big way that's stirring up a massive mess.

- If you were choosing a title for the book, would you keep the author’s title? If not, what title would you give the book?

I heard somewhere that the original Swedish titles actually translate completely differently but I have no idea if that's true. That being said I do think the titles of all the books in this series are well thought out and I would stick with them.

Anna Spivey (ajspivey) This week, I am reading I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter. Books with long titles are pretty hard to find, because there are a lot of books where such short titles are so fitting for the book. For this book in particular, I believe a shorter title would've done more justice, such as "Gallagher Girls", "Macey", or simply just "Spy School".

Areeba books and kids | 89 comments Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney

Lillian Boxfish takes a walk. This is a 2017 release n I had alreDy planned on reading this, it happened to fit this challenge as well.
The book is about a woman, who was ambitious, and in advertising around 1930s. She takes a walk in Newyork and reminisces about the past. It is about love for the city and a powerful woman in advertising, the title however is not apt, the book is more about a strong opinionated woman, and the parts about the walk can seem like cliches. I don't know what I would've preferred as a title, however, the current title is misleading,

It's important for a book to have a good, fitting title. This one does a few things right. First, it immediately indicates that the book is a Sci-fi novel. Second, it shows that the tone will be light hearted and possibly humorous. Finally, it is enticing. I wanted to read this from the moment I first heard the name if only to find out if the title fit.
