45: A book with a one-word title

Blubber by Judy Blume
What made you choose this book?
I wanted to start the birthday challenge today (read one book for every year since you were born) and this is the only book that jumped out at me for 1974!
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I had a pretty good idea - it's not a complicated book...

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
What made you choose this book?
This classic has been sitting on my virtual TBR list for a couple of years. My library finally got an audiobook copy and I listened to that.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No not really. But once the book got started I picked up on all of the various plot twists before they happened. I'm not sure if I was meant to or not.

George by Alex Gino
What made you choose this book?
I'd been meaning to read this for a while
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Not really, George is such a generic name it could be anyone's story.

Almost finished with Drained, this was a free ebook.
After last years investment in books, Tried to promise myself to read more free reads... Glad the book Drained was free. Not a bad plot, just not written very well.
Drained is right on description, serial killer drains the blood from his victims.

- What made you choose this book? I found Sarah Noffke's books last year and have joined a reading marathon which is reading this series, starting today (or tomorrow depending on where you live)
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No.

- What made you choose this book? Reading the plot teaser, it sounds like it's about time travel, and I love time travel books
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? Not at all! Kindred sounds like family or relations, and I can only guess it refers to the main character's shared racial ancestry with slaves

Inferno by Dan Brown
What made you choose this book?
I have already read all the books in this series, and in addition to fitting this category requirement, I'm also hoping this will redeem the series from the... Interesting detour that was the Lost Symbol.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Well, I definitely knew that it would take place in Italy with something to do with Dante.

The title itself doesn't give anything away, but when combined with the cover and synopsis, a clearer picture starts to form.

Sound by Alexandra Duncan
- What made you choose this book?
I got it for Christmas (it had been on my wishlist). And while reading I noticed that it fit.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No, I think not. In this novel "deep sound" stands for "deep space", I think, because the heroine is a scientist on a deep sound research vessel. But maybe I got it wrong.

Armada
- What made you choose this book?
I enjoyed Ready Player One by the same author last year so I thought I'd give it a try.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Well you know an Armada will feature heavily but I don't think you'd guess how.

- What made you choose this book? A BookBub suggestions
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
A turtle of some sort will figure prominently in the book. I think it will be heroic.

We by Yevgeny Zamyatin
- What made you choose this book?
It's considered the grandfather of dystopian books.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Yes and no. It makes sense once you read the book, the name "We" gives an idea of a collective society, which the book is about.

- What made you choose this book? I've been wanting to read it for a while. I'm trying to either reread the lays I read in school or read them for the first time.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's about an individual named Macbeth. But no, the content itself is not clear by the title.

Betrayals by Lili St. Crow
- What made you choose this book?
This book is the sequel to a book a read quite a while ago now. This book had been sitting on my shelf for a long while so I decided it was the perfect time to continue the series as well as fill the challenge space! ;)
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I haven't quite yet finished this, so I can't say for sure just how much foreshadowing this title manages. So far, betrayal has certainly been a prominent topic in this story. I am more than half-way through now and my prediction is someone important may betray the main character - I'll update this with a conclusion later. haha!
UPDATE: my prediction was proven wrong, so betrayal is just a prominent thought in the characters head.

Macbeth by William Shakespeare
What made you choose this book?
I've been planning to read more Shakespeare for awhile.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Well, obviously I already knew what happens in this book. If I hadn't, all I would be able to guess from the title is that there is probably a character named Macbeth.

- What made you choose this book? I picked this book from my TBR list... I like to read quite a bit of non fiction so I tried to squeeze in Non-fiction where I could on the AtY challenge list! :)
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Yes sadly the Sold title was a telling title for what happens to many girls in impoverished countries.

- What made you choose this book? I saw this book in the library and I wanted to read something new.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? No, the content of the book was a surprise for me.

Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
- What made you choose this book?
Was recommended to me in a swap, but I wanted to read it because I heard the movie was pretty good (the book wasn't lol)
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Something about living in Brooklyn, which is pretty accurate as not much really happens...

My second read for the category.
Free ebook, and really enjoying it. I was hoping it was the beginning of a series. Unfortunatly the author has died. The book is about missing Girls. And a vietnam vet hoping to solve a case to make up for the death of his own daughter.

What made you choose this book?
I really enjoyed The Girl with All the Gifts by this author (M.R. Carey) so when I saw a new one by him, I put it on my to-read list. Plus, someone mentioned that the MC (view spoiler) , which I found a totally intriguing plot point!
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No. Fellside is the name of the prison where the MC is incarcerated. Other than that, the title really has nothing to do with what goes on in the story.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Antigone by Sophocles.
What made you choose this book?
I'm finishing off the trilogy of Theban plays.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No, but I know who the main character is!

- What made you choose this book? The author is one of my favorites. This book is part of a series I am reading.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? Partially, but only after thinking about it once I read the book.

What made you choose this book? It was the first on my TBR list with a one word title
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? Not read it yet but assume it is about a virus and those that are infected by it

- What made you choose this book? I just happened to read this in March an it fit perfectly here!
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? Hell no

Hold by Rachel Davidson Leigh
- What made you choose this book?
It was a BOTM for the YA LGBT book group.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No definitely not.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell
- What made you choose this book?
It comes highly recommended from friends and was gifted to me by one of them a while back.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Yes. I have a few guesses and I've been told some minor things.

Tarantula by Bob Dylan
- What made you choose this book?
Picked it up at a used bookstore in London, not having known he wrote a novel. I was intrigued.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I have no idea how the title refers to the book. I don't recall it being mentioned at all.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
What made you choose this book?
It was one that I planned to read last year but didn't get around to it.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I would guess that one of the main characters would be a Truthwitch but not any events that would happen.

Grunt by Mary Roach
- What made you choose this book?
I love Mary Roach - her books normally have one word titles, which made this an easy fit
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Not really, but the cover is illustrative

Triptych by Karin Slaughter
What made you choose this book?
I was already reading this for a buddy read in another group.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No, it took me 'til the end to figure out what the title meant.

Commonwealth by Ann Patchett
What made you choose this book?
I had a number of books on-hand for this topic. It came down to which one of them did I want to read the most.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No

Fingersmith , by Sarah Waters

What made you choose this book?
A friend recommended it to me.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
According to the blurb on the back, petty thieves were known as 'fingersmiths' in Victorian England, so that provided a clue as to the period in which the novel is set.

Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
What made you choose this book?
It's been on my TBR for a while now. I've been meaning to read some of Gaiman's more adult-oriented stuff, so here we are.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Not really. It's not even a dictionary-defined word, is it? But that just makes it more interesting in my opinion.

LaRose by Louise Erdrich
What made you choose this book?
I really liked The Round House and I wanted to read something else she had written.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I didn't have a clue.

Ubik by Philip K. Dick
What made you choose this book?
Just felt like I needed some Dick. This is supposed to be his best.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No, but the author's name was a decent hint.

- What made you choose this book?
#MGLit middle grade lit for may plus it was on my 2016 must read list that my family and friends wanted me to read but I never got around to reading it.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Nope didn't guess it

Homegoing
What made you choose this book?
I bought the gorgeous UK edition of this book after seeing it on Booktube and wanted to read it.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
If I had only heard the title and not the countless summaries on Booktube, I would guess it was about a person going home after a long journey (and it is sort of about that).

Ashling by Isobelle Carmody
- What made you choose this book?
It was the next book in a series I'm reaing and I'm trying to finish some of the many series on my TBR.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
No, because I didn't know what the word meant :)

- What are you reading for this category?

Stardust, by Neil Gaiman.
I'm listening to the audiobook for this one.
- What made you choose this book?
It's been on my TBR for ever. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors and this is one of his few novels I have not read.
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I know the gist of the plot and I know one of the characters is chasing a star, which is where the title comes from.

- I don't remember how this book ended up on my Overdrive account! I had 5 other books I was considering for this prompt and had never heard of this book.
- I'm guessing the book may have an Oliver Twist type ending. From the title can I guess? No.

its such a good book! enjoy!

i chose this book because one of my goals this year is to read 2017 releases, i thought this was very interesting when i saw it in Indigo. i never thought about this challenge then.
i think this book is about the protagonist learning about HIMSELF< his past, his begining

You by Caroline Kepnes
What made you choose this book?
At the start of the month, I was trimming my TBR list and spotted this, and realized I'd never gotten around to reading it. I wound up putting it on hold then, and it just came in a day or two ago, finally, so I decided to use this for my one-word title read this week. (Although it definitely would've worked for a book with a chilling atmosphere as well because it's a very unsettling read.)
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
Definitely not. The title makes sense once you dig into the book, but if I had to guess beforehand with only the title as an indication, I definitely wouldn't know what this one was about.

What made you choose this book? I have a lot of one-word titled books on my GR Challenge list this year, for some strange reason. For this category, I had selected another book, but found this wonderful collection of 16 stories at the library recently. It had been on my general TBR for a while, so I decided to go with this one instead of my original pick.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? Oh yeah. In Italian, the word malafemmena slangily translates to "bad woman" and in each story, there is a woman who, though not traditionally bad, goes against the fray and against society's norms outlined for women.
Here you'll find women who practice witchcraft, young hippy women in the late '60's hitchhiking through Asia and the Middle East (imagine that!), sluts, mafiosas, Brooklyn cuginas, domineering mothers and other colorful ladies.

- What made you choose this book? It was given to me by a friend
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word? No and I wondered how it got its title until about half way through when it all becomes clear.

- What made you choose this book? It was given to me by a friend
- Could you guess what happens in the book from this one ..."
Was this a good one, Monica? I've got it on my TBR list.

Slammed by Colleen Hoover
What made you choose this book?
To read a book off the dusty shelf, if you will... I bought this as an ebook on sale FOREVER ago and finally got around to reading it.
Could you guess what happens in the book from this one word?
I forgot what it was about and thought from looking at the cover it was about a comedy roast, haha. (It's not; it's about slam poetry--kinda.)
