- What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it? A few of my friends recommended it. I started reading it, and then for some reason (that I can no longer remember) stopped, and I didn't go back to it until now.
- Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year? The Graveyard Book that I also read for this year's challenge.

Eunice What are you reading this week?
-The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
-Actually, it's been on my shelf since 2014, but I didn't have the time to read it then, so I promised to read it in 2015 but didn't get to either. I tried to read it, but I wasn't in the mood for it then.

Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
-I can't even remember them. They're a lot, but one of them was Throne of Glass.

The Masked City by Genevieve Cogman

- What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
I read the first book in the series in 2015, I bought the second book last year so I could continue the series but I never did.
Now I did and I have plans to read the third book this year too :)

- Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
I made changes in my plan during the year and I also bought 61 books and have only read 28 of those last year, so there are a lot of books I wanted to read last year but didn't, maybe this year I will read them.

No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July

What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
I liked the tile of the book. It's a book of short stories that I thought would be inspiring in some way because of the title. It wasn't what I was expecting and I struggled to keep reading this one.

Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
There were a lot of books that I wanted to read last year and never got around to. I'm a sucker for finding books in a shop and buying them and then not having time to read them

The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
I've read another book by the author and really enjoyed, so I wanted to read more from her and I thought it fitted the task "A book with a beautiful cover". I had to borrow it from the library and a lot of things just happened last year so I never got around to borrow it.

Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
I have a few classics I've been meaning to read the last couple of years: Dracula, Little Women, Brave New World and a few other. I'm hoping I can pull myself together and read some of them this year.

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

- What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?

Two of my favorite Stephen King books, The Stand and The Gunslinger, feature introductions where Mr. King explains their writing process and the changes he has made for the modern editions.

These intros were the best part of the books and a blast to read. So, when I stumbled upon the information that there was a whole book written by King on the subject, I really really wanted to read it.

- Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?

There were 10 books which fell off the reading list for 2016 during that challenge. I know because I kept track of them. But the only one that actually hurt to put aside was this one.

I ended up putting it off in favor of Maya Angelou's biography series and only once I had run out of other places to put those. Of the 10, I ended up reading a further 4 in late 2016 after finishing the main challenge. Two more, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch and The Name of the Wind are also on the 2017 list.

The other three are: Sandkings, The Metamorphosis, and Saving Fish from Drowning.

Pride and Prejudice
- What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
I wanted to read it for forever. This was the last of the big everyone-but-me-has-read-it books. I just kept putting it off due to other books with deadlines (library, book club, challenge requirement, etc).
- Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
Ooh, many! I must say I have already finished these that were for last year: Treasure Island, Frankenstein, Six of Crows, and Anne of Green Gables. As you can see, I have been mostly wanting to catch up on classics.
I also planned The Autobiography of Malcolm X and The Blind Assassin for last year, started the latter, will read the former after other deadlined books.

- What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it? I had chosen it for one of the 2016 challenge topics but never got to read it, so I thought it was a good opportunity to rad it this year. It looked like an interesting book and it filled a category, so it went on my TBR.
- Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year? Life of Pi, which I have wanted to read for a few years since seeing the movie. I'm going to try to fit that in this year as well.

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3238 comments What are you reading this week?
I just finished reading The Best Kind of People

What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
I saw it mentioned in our local newspaper, and thought that the plot seemed very interesting. It was very highly recommended in the article. I didn't read it because I was running a bit behind on my challenges last year so I ran out of time for this one. It didn't fit into any of the categories, and I didn't have a chance to get to any side reads.

Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
I really wanted to finally read Dracula, but never got to it. I also really wanted to read Wrecked, but it came out very close to the end of the year. I also intended to read The Way I Used to Be and Feed, both of which I've already read for challenges this year instead. Wrecked and Dracula are both on my list for later on.

It looked like it would be a really good book to read. I think the cover caught my eye first. I wasn't able to get a copy from the library before the end of the year. It had a long wait list!

Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?
Oh there are so many of them:
Shadow of Night, Career of Evil, Morning Star, Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography, Night Shift. Just to name a few!

Stacey D. | 1908 comments What are you reading this week? Crossing the Plains with Bruno by Annick Smith

What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it? I had read reviews about this ersatz memoir last year and the premise, an older woman who takes a road trip through the mid-western US with her big chocolate Lab, Bruno, while reflecting on her life, sounded lovely. Unfortunately, I had no time to read it last year, although it's a slim volume. It also turned out to be a hard book to find.

Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year? Moby-Dick; or, The Whale, Station Eleven and The Girls were a few of the books added to last year's TBR list that I never got to read. (This year, I've read two out of those three as part of the challenge so far.)

Caitlyn (midnightmelody) | 7 comments Week Three
Willful Child by Steven Erikson

I originally picked this book up because I love Steven Erikson's other series so I had to give this a try as well. And I couldn't say no to a Star Trek parody. As for why I didn't read it? I just didn't get around to it.

There are honestly too many books I meant to read in 2016 and just didn't get around to them. 2016 was a pretty bad year for me for reading (but sadly not for buying books, saying "I'll read this one right away, I swear!"). If it's on my "to read" shelf, chances are I meant to read it last year.

- What made you pick this book in 2016? Any reason you didn't read it?
I had heard really good things in the booktube verse and got super excited about it. Then life got absurdly crazy and I read hardly anything last year so this was one of many I didn't get to. In fact most of my list is the same as last years...

- Which other book did you really want to read but didn't open last year?

I really wanted to read The Hammer of Thor by Rick Riordan when it came out and I never got to it - still haven't.

The description and cover appealed to me. I didn't read it because I lacked the time and I had heard a negative review from a valued friend who thought the book was overrated. Unfortunately, I agree with her.

I picked this because I really like Stephen Fry and have read several of his other books
I did start to listen to it in 2016 but didn't finish it as I found it disappointing compared to his others. ( It got better but still only managed a 3 stars - and then only because it was read by the author)
What book did you want to read in 2016 and didn't ? The whole of my TBR list! I suppose American Gods as I've had the Audio ( again read by the Author) for a while and not got past the first chapter. (I finished that in a binge listen this February )

I didn't get around to reading it for two reasons, 1. because i have the actual book and i read almost exclusively off my kindle ( so sad, I'm working on changing that for next year) and 2. It was missing two pages in the middle, so I had to get my ex husband to send me screenshots of the missing pages and save them to phone, then read them off the phone when I got to that part in the book.
