Any 10 consecutive years will work.

As long as the award appears on the GR book page, you may choose any award.
Although sometimes overwhelming, these pages might be of some help for stirring some thoughts.
/award

I am willing to do some small amount of work on some awards. Please ask in the librarian thread.

ok..thanks.
New Question... I'm considering Dear Nobody by Berlie Doherty which is listed as YA on the GR page but not listed at all on the Brooklyn Library page...but has a lower than 800 Lexile. It won the 1991 carnegie Medal. Does it qualify here?

If BPL doesn't have it, it cannot be classified as YA anything and the Lexile rule does not apply.
Stand by for further on the NYC Drama Critics award. Some awards for performances - like the Tony's - do not conform to GR standards. I think the Drama Circle is OK, but I have asked for clarification.

Only the California Gold qualifies for Awards of the Decade.

It is the year of the award that qualifies, not year published. Many awards are given in the year following publication, but there is no standard.

Yes. We will accept either title for a given year.

But the main RWS challenge is using "1942-1992" for the first tier of oldies. (1992 does count)
Not trying to be nitpicky--the Flannery O'Connor award started in 1983, so I'll be reading through 1992, and both 1992 winners were published in 1992. Just wondering if 1992 will count for Oldies or not.

1992 counts as the first oldest year for this bonus. Sometimes we get our tongues in the wrong pew.

:) Thanks for your replies to both of my questions. I love short story collections and am looking forward to reading a lot of new-to-me authors. Great subchallenge!

Ed, at least 2 of us who work mostly in awards think this one complies with GR standards. But it's a big award, and I don't have time to do it in the short run. Are you planning on using it for the all 10 option, or just one. Either way, let me know where I can help, and next month when things simmer down a bit, I can go back and try to fill in the blanks.

ok...now that you added the Pulitzer to A Soldier's Play...I added a different book that won a Pulitzer to my list...but that same play also won the 1982 NY Drama Critics Award...but that isn't on the GR page. I assume that it doesn't matter that my list has two Pulitzer Award winners as long as I can cite a different award won by one of the works?

No, wrong assumption. The award must be on the GR book page. (And yes, if I'm now awake enough to put a different interpretation to your question, a work may have won an award already on your list as long as you are claiming it for a different award. I have several on my own list that way, and jockeyed around to get what I needed.)
I have added the NYC Drama Critic's to A Soldier's Play.

And you're up early, too!"
Yeah...I'm an early riser.

Readers' Choice awards?
Translation awards? If so, does the book have to be read in the translation?
Audio book awards? If so do we have to listen to the audio book?

Yes, to all of them, although I personally shudder at the Readers Choice awards because they are more vanity awards. At the present time, GR is allowing them, and we will go with all awards on a GR book page.
You can read any edition of the book that has won the award. As above, you need to slot it in the year of the award.

If we chose the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Choice award, can we pick any book that won in each year? Do we have to stick with the same genre each year?

I'm sorry, I did miss this. Yes, you can read any book that won a GR Choice, and you can change categories. But if you read for more than one year, you will have to use the all same option.

Ok, the GR Choice award has not been around for 10 years, so you shouldn't think about using that one.

There has been discussion in the librarian's group on that very issue. Personally, I am against GR listing them that way, but I have been overruled. As long as the award appears on the GR book page, you're good with it. However, I caution you on ones like these because they could go astray. You may wish to log here the specific title and the award just in case.

Yes - on the Canon, YA/Lexile rules do not apply.

ok...great! thanks.

The ALA Alex Award is given to ten books every year. None is designated as the prime "winner"--they are all ten the winner of the award. Could we choose any of these books for this challenge?

Yes, but be careful with this award as a lot of these are YA which may have a Lexile below 800.
