Welcome to the Shiver trilogy re-read!
Throughout the month of June, we'll be re-reading the entire Shiver trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater to get ready for the release of SINNER on July 1! We'll be remembering all those precious Sam and Grace moments that we might have forgotten, brushing up on our Rilke, and falling back in love with Isabel and Cole.

How many times have you read Shiver?: 1/2...yeah, so, I started to read the book awhile ago...and never finished so I am going to re-start and finish with all of you!
How did you discover the series?: I'm not quite sure but after I did I fell in love with The Raven Boys
Who is your favorite character?: Due to my lack of finishing I never acquired one...
What is one of your favorite quotes from the series?: Ditto from the last answer...

We're about 100 pages in so far, and we're already re-discovering so many fantastic scenes!

We'd almost forgotten about that early scene in the bookstore when Sam is working the register and Grace doesn't even notice him!

This description also really struck us:
It occurred to me that if Grace an I were objects, she would be an elaborate digital clock, synced up with the World Clock in London with technical perfection, and I'd be a snow globe - shaken memories in a glass ball.

Grace and Sam are admittedly obsessed with each other - even without really knowing much about each other - but they seem to work. Why do you think that is?

How many times have you read Shiver?: 3? (I can't really remember.)
How did you discover the series?: I believe I just came across it while shopping for books one day. It was a long time ago!
Who is your favorite character?: For the purpose of answering this question, I'll say Sam. I love nearly all the characters, though!
What is one of your favorite quotes from the series?: (I decided to pick something in the very beginning of Shiver.)

"As the hours crept by, the afternoon sunlight bleached all the books on the shelves to pale, gilded versions of themselves and warmed the paper and ink inside the covers so that the smell of unread words hung in the air." (page 8)

How many times have you read Shiver? I think this is my 3rd read.
How did you discover the series? I think I first saw the book while browsing Borders. One of my favorite things to do is browse aimlessly through bookstores. I think it is one of the best ways to discover new treasures.
Who is your favorite character? I loved all the characters, but I have to say that the vulnerability of Sam made him my absolute favorite.
What is one of your favorite quotes from the series? I have many from each book. There is no way I can only pick one. So I will pick one from Shiver for now "He was as fragile as a butterfly in autumn, waiting to be destroyed by the first frost."

Okay, so I've probably read Shiver twice, and this will be my third time.
I spotted Shiver in the Borders catalog and just had to have it... I very rarely just buy a book on a whim, but the description of Shiver was so great, I just had to.
I like most of the characters, but Grace and Isabel have to be my favorites.
Too many beautiful quotes to list in one post, but Sam seems to have some of the best ones - and Isabel!

My favorite character is probably Cole or Isabel. I just love them together and I love how they aren't inevitable like Sam and Grace.
And, honestly, there are too many good quotes! I'm just going to say that the entire book was my favorite quote. ;)

I've read Shiver two times. I'm 30, and a Reference Assistant at a public library. I came across Shiver while prepping our collection to move to a temporary library space.

I loved the writing (and loved the blue font) but found the as one earlier poster said the "inevitability" of Grace & Sam to be a bit too perfect. After I read the entire series and re-read this first book, I fell in love!

How many times have you read Shiver?: I have read Shiver 3 times. I'm so excited to join this re-read discussion. I can't wait till Sinner comes out.

How did you discover the series?: After reading The Twilight Saga, I saw it at Borders. I loved the book cover. Its beautiful. It sounded good so I wanted to read it. I loved it. Its one of my favorite books.

Who is your favorite character?: Sam.

We love that you love Cole and Isabel because "they aren't inevitable like Grace and Sam" - that's such a good way to put it!

We just got to the part where Shelby attacks Grace - what do you think about Shelby? Can you sympathize with her at all?

How did you discover the series? I saw it in a bookstore when it first came out and have knew about it for years, but only decided to read it after I read The Dream Thieves.
Who is your favorite character? Sam... so far! Although I love Rachel's energetic personality.
What is one of your favorite quotes from the series? (Seeing as how i've only read Shiver, i'll choose one from there) “You're beautiful and sad," I said finally, not looking at him when I did. "Just like your eyes. You're like a song that I heard when I was a little kid but forgot I knew until I heard it again."

How many times have you read Shiver? I've re-read the whole series just this past month. That was like the fifth time I did!

How did you discover the series? I saw it on the Scholastic website when I was around ten years old. Once I read the blurb, I knew that I would fall in love with the books (and I did)!

Who is your favorite character? I fell in love with Cole since his first appearance on Linger. No kidding. Something about his personality just draws me in, and I love how his and Isabel's relationship works. They don't try to make anything happen between the two of them, even though their attraction is undeniably shown in every scene they have.

What is one of your favorite quotes from the series? (this is gonna be v hard but i'll just pick a random page from forever and take it from there)
��"Cole," I said, "do you think I'm lovable?"
"As in 'cuddly and'?"
"As in able to be loved," I said.
"Maybe," he said. "But you won't let anybody try."��

My friend let me borrow her copy quite a few years ago, and I ended up buying the second book in the series because it was cheap in my local supermarket. I never got around to buying the first or third books, though. I'm hoping to remedy that soon.

How did you discover the series?: I saw a copy of Shiver at Powell's and thought "Ooh, this is the other series by the author of The Raven Boys. The worst that can happen is I will be $10 more poor."

I have not read Vampire Academy, but many of my friends have, and I live in Spokane, so I get the reference :)

How did you discover the series?: I used to play a game called WolfQuest, and one day I was at the school library and I was searching for wolf books and I found Shiver. :)
Who is your favorite character?: Sam or Cole. OMG I CAN'T DECIDE.
What is one of your favorite quotes from the series?: I forget the exact quote, but it was about liquid summer.

I discovered Shiver and Linger by accident through my library. I had just gotten a Nook and was looking for books to borrow via digital lending. I read the first two right away and then had to wait for what felt like forever for Forever. I liked the original covers. I thought they had a very classic look.

I read Shiver ages ago, probably 2010 (I think I bought it for the beautiful cover) and then I lost my copy of it :/
I bought a cheap copy at a second hand book store last year, so I can't wait for the re-read! I loved the blue font, it was unique and it wasn't too bold.

I have read Shiver once a few years ago. I discovered the series because my friend bought me them for my birthday. My favourite character is Sam. One of my favourite quotes is "Some native people think if you take their photo, you take their soul."

I've read Shiver twice (as far as I can remember). I discovered the series because I saw the book on my friend's bookshelf and it looked interesting. My favourite character is Isabel (obviously after she stops being as bitchy) because she cracks me up and I think that even if she is a little, how can I put it, stubborn she's really a caring person.

I've read it once. I discovered it on here. I'm pretty sure through recommendation after I entered my books! For the series, my favorite character is Cole. But Sam was my favorite for this book for sure.

Hi all!

I just joined this group and to date I've only read the first book and that was in 2011.

I now have the second book and am actively looking for the third as I plan to read them all.

However...

As I said in my review

The characters are likeable, the storyline draws you in and finally you reach the dénouement and its plotus interruptis! This was a paranormal teen romance so we reached the last chapter pretty much expecting a sappy happy romantic ending (which we get sort of) but the author couldn't be bothered to fully write it. The happy ending has to go on for a BIT longer. This was like watching someone build a wonderful banana split, garnish it lovingly with whipped cream and position the cherry just so, only to turn and drop it on the floor just before serving it. Has this woman never heard of afterglow? No it's just Wham Bam Good night Sam!

It may just be me. I'm NOT the typical reader for this kind of thing. I'm male, I'm gay and I'm pushing 60 but I did enjoy the Twilight series of books. Personally I believe my "inner child" is a 13 year old fat girl.

Either way, I'm back and ready to try this series again.

I LOVE SHIVER!!!!

Especially Maggie's style of writing. Her lyrical words and the rhythm and the way she focuses on the most beautiful details of a scene are just incredible and I always love reading Shiver and re-reading it. :D
And the relationship between Sam and Grace is one of the most realistic relationships with lines and scenes that would occur in real life without having to move the plot along too much.
I LOVE THAT! Her exploration of the characters is so beautiful too. :D
and the songs and poetry, oh god it's beautiful! Absolutely incredibly amazing and beautiful!

Plus, it makes me cry. And I like books that make me cry and enable me to explore emotional journeys and what connects people to people and situations of families and small towns and I WANT TO GO TO MINNESOTA and I love how the fantasy is very matter of fact and again, just very beautiful and readingly appeasing. :D (I know that's no way grammatically correct!)

Also, I made a book trailer for shiver if anyone wants to see it. I made it a few years ago, and I can see ways I could definitely improve,but it won a competition and I still like it. :D

How many times if you reread shiver?: Too many times to count and I reread sections so many times that I almost got bored of Sam and Grace (because I knew each word that was coming next)
How did you discover the series?: I don't remember, I think through Amazon �� I search Amazon to find books because I have a Kindle. It was one of the first books I bought in November 2009. It was published in August 2009.
Favorite character: at first it was Sam because we are not introduced to many other characters in depth in the first book, but as a series progressed I fell love with Isabel and instantly loved Cole!!!!

I just started rereading Shiver. Lol I should have started earlier but hey I've been busy. I'm pretty certain I can read all 3 of the books by July 1st though :)

I read the books in the past few years a couple of times and well... And I am loving them, but the best part is, that I read them in German and a few weeks ago I discovered that if you put all 3 books togehter it says: Nach dem Sommer ruht das Licht in deinen Augen (After the summer the light rests in your eyes). It just made me smile xD

I picked it up when I was in Waterstone's. Back then there YA section was pretty small and I liked the cover and description. Do I got it- impulse buy.

Fantastic video. Better than a lot of official book videos. Did you do the voice over? It's great :-)

yes I did. :D And when I went to work experience in a film making studio they let me use the voice recording booth and they said that I had a good recording voice. :D

I watched the trailer and I thought it was really great you should do more for other books

One of my favourite scenes when (view spoiler)[Isabel, Grace & Olivia are at Grace's house (?) , and they are all in the kitchen cooking dinner with Sam standing back and watching them. (hide spoiler)] That scene was so beautiful and warm with everyone happy together.
(If that scene is not in Shiver, sorry! It's probably in Linger, isn't it?)

I just finished rereading Shivers (my notices always come late). At first I thought the blue print was my imagination, then I got Linger and went back and looked again. Very cool. I love Sam. Grace sometimes wore me out because she was so stoic. One of my favorite parts in the book is when she does open up and describes Sam. "You are beautiful and sad. Just like your eyes. You're like a song that I heard when I was a little kid but forgot I knew until I heard it again."

No, you're right, that scene is in shiver.
