Now, I'm reading The End is Nigh. It's short stories set in the time just before an apocalyptic event. There is supposed to be another book with stories set during the apocalypse and another one with stories in post-apocalyptic worlds. I thought that was a neat idea.

Interesting. Scalzi's been writing those serialized ebooks, Human Division & End of All Things. Maybe the idea of serialization is too ingrained now.

Not sure what I'll plan to read after that. The last few weeks I've been preferring quicker reads with a good flow just because my main reading time is on the subway or before bed these days. I really hate leaving off chapters right in the middle instead of finishing them, so any book at this point that has chapters over 10 pages just ain't working for me lol

Currently reading Mightier than the Sword by K.J. Parker. Just awesome. Only that hefty price tag... I have to say that I'm glad that I snapped it from netgalley.

Now on to So Long Been Dreaming: Postcolonial Science Fiction and Fantasy. Have read the first story, which was pretty interesting.

Currently reading: Memory of Water
Side note: goodreads seems now to be sending out an email that say "Congratulations! You finished [X]" whenever i mark a book as read. This is incredibly annoying and condescending. I know I finished a book, goodreads, i'm the one that marked it finished. You don't need to tell me.

Just got done reading GateFather by Orison Scatt Card. Very good ending to a good trilogy

Glad I'm not the only one that had that reaction to that new "feature".

Yeah, it seems silly. Not really certain what action they are so eager for me to take.
There is an "unsubscribe" link at the bottom; I've clicked it, but won't know for sure until I finish something else.
I finished Central Station, which wasn't to my taste (interesting future world, but nobody interesting does anything interesting in it.) Not surprising, since I didn't like either of the short stories I'd read from that world, either. Ah, well.
(Also finished Lies of Locke Lamora & Caves of Steel re-reads for group discussions.)
Now starting on Scalzi's latest, The Collapsing Empire, which is typical breezy snarky Scalzi so far.

Completely 100%. It's just plain weird...
Currently for April, I'm reading a new Australian fantasy book Valentine (which is actually set in Australia for once, I don't know why but Australian fantasy authors almost always set their book in European type settings). After that I'm hoping to get my act into gear for the Caves of Steel book and get into the group discussion :)

So, I'm finishing Roth's Carve the Mark and I'm diving right into the last book of the Passage trilogy, Cronin's The City of Mirrors.
Hopefully, I'll finish it by the end of the month... Fingers crossed!

I jumped straight into The Waking Fire which has looked pretty positive so far.
After that, I may just be tempted to pick up Red Sister because I'm hyped - I can't actually remember the first book I bought on release, but this might be the one to break that!
And assuming I've a bit of time left, I'll probably jump back into Chronicles of the Black Company as I really enjoyed the first book in the collection. Neal Asher has also been added to my list recently, so he might make a guest appearance if I'm craving sci-fi.

I'm thinking about starting Way of Kings.
I'm also in the middle of Game of Thrones (I might wait a bit to finish, I need to reread book four)
I'm also wanting to read the Crestomanci series (Dianna Wynne Jones)
I'm currently reading a book for a review request.
I started rereading the Thrawn trilogy, finished the first book. My library doesn't have the other two. Dumb.
I'm itching to reread Harry Potter but I want to buy a new set first, one of my paperbacks is missing, and a section of one fell off and I can't find it after we moved. >.> They were second hand.

I've read some of her other series, but started with Howl's. I had watched the anime since I was a wee little, but the books are that much better. Glad I found them! I love how she "does" magic. :)

That was my experience with that book too. A cool premise in search of a plot.

I'm hoping for another anthology like Academic Exercises ... still a high price tag, but you get more than one story/novella. I do have a couple of Parker novellas that I picked up in paperback but haven't gotten to yet -- The Last Witness & The Devil You Know
I just finished a re-read of Ancillary Justice, and I've started Ancillary Sword for the first time. So far, it's living up to expectations pretty well.

I really, really, really need to get around to reading the Howl books because I love that anime to pieces. In fact I love the anime so much I'm a bit reluctant to be disappointed by the books :) Same reason why I have yet to read Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn.

I've been wondering what KJ Parker was up to. He'd been doing monthly installments of The Two of Swords, then suddenly delayed it for over a year. I was worried he'd been taken ill.

After that I'm reading Horus Rising, so I'll finally enter the Warhammer 40k universe (30k in this case, i guess?). Having high hopes for this one, because the setting looks so interesting!
Closing the month, if everything goes as planned, I will finish the Broken Empire Trilogy with Emperor of Thorns.

They include The Stars are Legion _ our pick hooray!
The Collapsing Empire
A conjuring of Light
Seven Surrenders
And several from 2016 I'm trying to catch up with :
The Bands of Mourning
A Closed and Common Orbit
Updraft
Borderline
...and several others.....

I like your choices! I read Dune in the start of the year and liked it, although I was a bit overwhelmed at the start. I also want to continue with The Black Company, as the first book was really entertaining!
I am currently reading 3 different books.
Misery by Stephen King, which is pretty disturbing, but I like it so far. I heard the movie adaptations is not too bad either, I will get to that after I finish.
Then I am reading something shorter, The Tenth Power by Kate Constable, which is the conclusion of a traditional Fantasy trilogy. I like it much more than book 2 so far. It doesn't seem like a 'filler' and develops the storyline.
I am also re-reading A Cavern of Black Ice by J.V. Jones because I've been thinking about it for a while now. I read it years ago and was really impressed but didn't continue because the series didn't seem to go anywhere... Well, it's still not finished, but I hope by the time I catch up it will be.
Also on my to read-list for this month is The Waking Fire by Anthony Ryan. It's already sitting on my shelf :)

This book has come out pretty often in groups' discussions lately....
Rachel wrote: "Ok guys, I'm a little all over the place and I haven't been reading all week because I don't know where to start. And being in here isn't helping because I keep finding books that I might like and ..."
I plan to read The Way of Kings next month so if you do the same then we can discuss in the old discussion thread (since the group has discussed it before)

Since I have a bunch of stuff planned for May already, going to get a head start on The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe. Already about 50 pages in and I'm definitely interested.

Having just finished the first 2 books of the Stormlight Archives in March I am on a Brandon Sanderson roll. Plan to get through Warbreaker", "Elantris", and "Arcanum Unbounded" before "Oathbreaker" comes out.

I'm listening to Sector Eight right now, which is a litRPG novel. Not a genre I'm normally into, but it's really good so far.

/review/show...

I am also trying some of the free Tor's Hugo-nominate works. That Game We Played During the War is excellent. Currently reading The Art of Space Travel.
