Elane Hello! I'm one of those people that read by themes until they get tired of it or the craving changes, and I'm currently craving books about a group of close friends and awesome shifters, hehe. I was wondering if anyone could suggest me books like this. I don't know how to find something specific like this. I've recently read Milly Taiden's Sassy Mates series, but to be honest (and I don't mean to be mean or anything) the author is just bad. Which is sad because the premises of her books were cool, but there was just lots of sex and dirty talk and little sense in there. I just want a book/series with a group of friends that meet their mates without it being 98% sex and 2% pointless drama. Can someone help, please?

Steph (angel4492) | 32520 comments Hmmmm, without a lot of sex AND drama? LOL! A lot of us have read many books in series with "group of close friends and awesome shifters", but those that come to mind for me right now have sex and drama. But, I'll poke through my shelves and see if I can find something that isn't heavy on either, Elane. Maybe a UF rather than PNR, would that work or are you looking for couples' HEAs?

Look into the Kate Daniel's series by Ilona Andrews

Elane No, I don't mind sex and drama. I just wanted a book that has content as well as sexiness. My problem with books like Milly Taiden's, for instance, is that she really just concentrated on the sex scenes. Her plot, or her characters, are really lacking and some times are just dumb. The last book I read from the Sassy Mates series I couldn't understand a thing about the protagonists' feelings because she would say "I love him, but I don't know if I love him because I don't know what love is....But I love him..." ¬¬ Seriously? lol Sorry, getting carried away. But yeah, I don't mind books with sex and drama...just don't want that to be the only thing in the book.
BTW, thanks so much for helping. <3

Natalie C | 6 comments I'm not sure if this helps

But how about giving Rachel Aaron's Heartstriker series a try? The first book is called Nice Dragons Finish Last

Basically about a family of dragons in a world where magic "came back" 60 years ago.

So magic and river spirits and dragons are out in the open.

It doesn't have sex in it. But there is the beginning of romance. Also it's a very funny book (even when danger is imminent). Also the function and dysfunction of the Hearstriker clan is a big draw for the book

Elane Ooh I do love dragon stories :D. I'll give it a try. Thank you! :)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Shifters with sex but a really good plot as well:

Psy-Changeling by Nalini Singh - Slave to Sensation
Feral Warriors by Pamela Palmer - Desire Untamed
Shifters Unbound by Jennifer Ashley - Pride Mates
Darkness Chosen by Christina Dodd - Scent of Darkness
Night Watch by Cynthia Eden - Eternal Hunter
Elder Races by Thea Harrison - Dragon Bound

These seem really good. Thanks, Lauren! I already red Dragon Bound and liked it a lot, if the others are as good I know i'll enjoy it. :)

Kim Shumaker (kim_shumaker) | 707 comments I recommend the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. Slave to Sensation is the first book. I have devoured this series and am currently on Book 10. I shied away from this series because the Psy seemed a little too sci-fi for me and boy was I mistaken. The major theme throughout is the importance of family/friends. There is sex but it focuses more on their emotional connections with each other.

Nalini Singh is such an amazing writer and the way she has developed this world - well I could go on for days. I was 100% hooked with the first book. It's not one of those series that the first book lays the foundation and world building and you're left hoping that it gets better in the second book. Slave to Sensation takes off running. And if you ever get in an Angel-themed mood her Guild Hunter series is off the charts good as well. Okay, my Nalini Singh worship is over...lol.

D.G. | 2752 comments Totally agree on the Psy-Changeling series! This was the series that turned me into PNR. :)

Book 10 is great...and 12!! OMG!!! Those are among the best. :)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Moon Called by Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson series. (Well, actually not very romance centered but what there is ...)

My personal tastes have little patience for the series with insta-lust because "fated mate" crap or where pack hierarchy/rules mentality denigrates women while resembling a violent gang.

I'm looking through my fictfact series list and may edit this to add others. I think I'm heavier on vampires than shifters when it comes to romance. I certainly second the recommendations others have made.

ETA:

Shapechangers by Jennifer Roberson, Cheysuli series. So much clan and family and romance it may as well be a soap opera.

The Unleashing by Shelly Laurenston, Call of Crows (light on the romance but increases as series continues).

I also liked Kitty and the Midnight Hour of Kitty Norville series and Skinwalker of Jane Yellowrock series -- but they are definitely just one main character books rather than multiple couples/family/clan finding romance style of PNR books; what romance there is definitely takes a backseat to the story (and at point I've read to in Jane Yellowrock I'm not exactly sure it's going to have a lot of romance).

Mercy Thompson and Jane Yellowrock are both excellent series. They are UF rather than PNR so the romance takes a back seat (way in the back!) to the plot.

Jane Yellowrock has more romance as the series progresses. The relationship is VERY slow to build but they have such amazing chemistry that its worth it!
