New series read?

Several of these sound great to me. I loved the Dark Tower and have been considering a reread. I've enjoyed several in the Vlad Taltos series and a handful from the others you listed.
Let's see what the group thinks!

Tales of Ketty Jay (Chris Wooding)
Magician (first tetralogy till Magician's End)
Blackthorn and Grim (Juliet Marilier)
Rivers of London (Ben Aaronovitch)
and maybe some others.. I lots of series followed.
I don't like to spend too much time on re-reads, so I would go for Robin Hobb's Farseer books (I've only read the initial Farseer Trilogy). I've read the Roberson, King, most of the Brust, and the Simmons series.
I will toss a few others in the mix (uh-oh, might need a poll...)
Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Series [whoa, maybe not--31 books? Starts with the Riftwar Saga and apparently goes on (and on) from there] /series/4964...
Elizabeth Moon's Paladin's Legacy (a follow-up series to her The Deed of Paksenarrion) /series/4960...
Carol Berg's The Bridge of D-Arnath series /series/4245...

I also want to read:
David Brin Uplift
/series/4113...
Asimov's Foundation Universe
/series/4942...
Gregory Benford's Galactic Center series
/series/4986...
Iain M. Banks Culture series
/series/4911...
Alastair Reynolds Revelation Space series
/series/5639...

Maybe also consider C. J. Cherryh's Chanur series or Tim Powers' Fault Lines trio (Last Call, Expiration Date, Earthquake Weather)

I've read a few Culture books and would be game for more, also interested in the Powers trio.
I would rather read Cherryh's Foreigner series but it's at least 16 books.

1. Dune - I have read first two books and then just lost steam to read remaining books.
2. Dark tower - Have finished first three books but if you guys start then can hold on.
3.Revelation space
4.Foundation

Gaiman's Sandman series (my husband read them all and we have them all too)
Asimov's Foundation Trilogy (I'm on book 2 ATM and would love to discuss)
Simmons' Hyperion/Endymion series (I've read the 2 Hyperion books and would love to finish the series)
Hobb's Farseer or Fitz and the Fool series. (I've read them all, but would loooove to re-read them!)
Brin's Uplift
Cherryh's Foreigner
And I'll ad to the mix:
Julian May's The Many Colored Land series.
Octavia Butler's Patternist series
I suppose we need a poll :) Should I just set one up with the series that have been mentioned more than once?

But you know the folder and discussions are there when you do read it, right? 😋

I almost added the Julian May series series, too, so that one would be OK with me.

I'm OK with that. Once we have chosen a serie, a mod needs to set up the overall folder and then you can do the threads. At least, that's how we did it for Malazan and Deverry.

Now that said, I personally like some variety between sf and f, and we've had a few fantasy in a row now.
How about the Expanse series? (sorry, on app and I can't link) starting with Leviathin Wakes. Read the first a few years ago, enjoyed it, and then got distracted and never continued.
Also game for Benford's Galactic Center series or Julian May's Many Colored Land series.
I am a huge fan of Feist's Riftwar books, but agree that might be a bit too big. I do want to eventually do a reread at some point. I was a kid when I discovered that series.
I'm back and forth with Scalzi's OMW series and have read all but the last two. My feelings in regards to Bank's Culture series are better left unsaid. :D And Reynolds isn't far behind sadly.

After we read the first Vlad Taltos book, I DID go on and read most of the books. Love that series but probably would not reread (so many books, so little time).
A sci-fi alternate to a fantasy series would be OK with me, and then my vote would be for the May series, since I have the books but have never read them.
Edited to add that I am currently watching The Expanse and my husband and I think it is very good. Those books are on my list of things to buy... if that series were chosen, it would push me to get them.

I'm totally in for a series read. All the suggestions sound good, looking forward to see where we end up.

According to him, its really good (though our tastes can differ) but it really goes hand in hand with the Galactic Milieu series.
A quick glance says together they are 7-8 books and if we choose this path, he recommend that we read them as one series, though had no recommendation as which one to read first.
I have to admit though, my personal preference so far is the Expanse series as its been on my list to get to for ages now. Heard good things about the TV series, but I'm one of those who wants to read the books first.
Down side, Its not finished yet as a 7th book is due out later this year and 2 more are to follow.

I have been watching The Expanse and think it is one of the best SF things to find its way to the small screen. Not to be a buzz kill, but I have a copy of Leviathan Wakes and recently skimmed through it to get a sense of where it fit in with the TV show. I was mildly surprised to see that the TV series has already gone well beyond the events in the first book. Considering the length of the books and the large number of them, I have decided to slavishly watch the series and skip the books. YMMV

Season One got about halfway through Leviathan Wakes, Season Two about halfway though Caliban's War. The show tweeks some of the storylines a bit.

I am presently reading OMW, I am at The Last Colony. It's only six books though
Riftwar books there are too many, I wouldnt mind but there are a lot
Foundation books, are we talking about the three that were not actually written by Asimov to be included?
This may not be cool but The Thomas Covenant books might be good, 10 books

My other suggestion is the Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells - book 5 is being released in July.

Thanks for the clarification. I've read a few series containing numerous titles. Hamilton, Banks, Asher come to mind. These days, I tend to prefer shorter series or stand-alones. But who knows. I might weaken.

I'd also be interested in the Julian may books.
I am out of town this weekend but can set up a poll when I get back and have a chance (unless the mods want to do it earlier). Should we do the same thing we do for monthly reads, and have a runoff of the top two or three choices after the initial poll?

Yes, elimination round poll and then run-off poll to choose the winner.

Raksura is excellent. Farseer would tempt me but I too failed the Kerr read.

Thanks, Helen! I checked in the settings to see how Stefan originally set things up, and non-mod poll creation was disallowed. I changed the setting, so things should be ready to go now. (After this poll, I'll flip the switch back so we don't have a ton of random polls going up. We can change it again as needed.)
Ok, I put the poll up. I included just series that were mentioned more than once in this thread, in order to narrow it down - even so we have 13 options! I did not set an end date, but I think we can edit that? Mods? How long do we usually have a poll up for?

We generally leave a first poll up for around a week to ten days, depending on the start date. But I usually split up the remaining days in the current month, with any extra days tacked onto the first poll (since there are more options for people to sort through, read about, and choose between.)
For example, in this case I would end the first poll at the end of the day Sunday, May 21, and put up the second poll Monday, May 22. (12 full days plus part of today for the first poll / 10 full days for the run-off poll)
Does that sound OK to you folks, or do you want a shorter or longer time frame?
I am urging votes for the Julian May series, since we haven't done a sF series (and since I haven't read this series yet but I own all the books).

There are so many good choices in this poll! I'm going to have to think hard before I vote. I'd really like to jump into a series read - push my usual reading comfort zone a bit.
