Foxy Grandma (foxygrandma) If the moderator approves, I am thinking about starting a book Discussion in this group. I know we can have some very interesting discussions here. I need some suggestions from you guys of books you would like to see discussed. All I ask is that the discussions stay civil....LOL

Mawgojzeta I think books will have to be chosen based on how available they still are. Outdated pagan-friendly books may be far more scarce than general books. Although, if other library systems are like mine, these days you can almost get any book from any other library, if you are willing to wait.

Another suggestion would be to alternate fiction and non-fiction each month.

Ancestral Gaidheal (gaidheal) Why not choose from the group's bookshelf? As all members or the group can add books there, it should make a book of the month a bit easier to organise, especially since there appears to be the possibility of creating a new folder for books read by the Book of the Month members.

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) We should have people suggest books and we can take a vote on the ones entered.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 32 comments One good way I've seen done in other groups is to create a poll listing the books and do the voting that way. May I suggest The Triumph of the Moon A History of Modern Pagan Witchcraft? It's been suggested many times to me as a must read and I must admit I still have yet to read it.

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) Well, to do a poll a mod will have to put it up. Maybe we should make a new group so we can do those things.

Actually, Christy, anyone in the group can create a poll. See here http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/21...

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) I'll be damned.

Ancestral Gaidheal (gaidheal) I am going to choose from the "to read" bookshelf and nominate " Blood and Mistletoe The History of the Druids in Britain " by Ronald Hutton.

Mawgojzeta I just got Magia Sexualis Sex, Magic, and Liberation in Modern Western Esotericismfrom my library, so I am going to suggest this book. I read the first page and it looks to be quite interesting.

I second this book, as I am currently reading it in my Celtic Studies discussion group, and it is quite excellent.

Urd (voluspa) I want to suggest A World Full of Gods: An Inquiry into Polytheism by John Michael Greer.

This one sounds interesting.

Urd (voluspa) Indeed! It's one of the view books written on polytheism and I thought it was quite good.

Ancestral Gaidheal (gaidheal) Starting in May, I hope to start a "Book of the Month" discussion within the group.

So, for the month of May, I have chosen " Blood and Mistletoe: The History of the Druids in Britain " by Professor Ronald Hutton.

For June, I suggest we review, " A World Full of Gods: An Inquiry into Polytheism " by John Michael Greer.

I'm hoping a book a month might be manageable, but I am flexible in terms of time, not everyone can read at the same rate at the same time, to am prepared to engage in a book every two months, or a book every three weeks, depending on the activity in "Book of the Month" discussions.

message 17: by Kendra (new)

Kendra (ravenacres) Cool, will try and find the books.

Ancestral Gaidheal (gaidheal) I have started a poll which lists three suggestions from the above thread for "Book of the Month".

As I personally had very little time these past three months to participate in the discussion of the last "Book of the Month", and am unlikey to be overly active in the next three months, the discussion leader will be chosen from those who nominated the book that wins the poll.
