there was this series in my library that i read when i was a kid, but it was definitely for adults. i was weird, idk. the main character was jack i think. i remember him getting castrated maybe?? the covers were like metal-inspired if you know what i mean. there might have been some topic abt alchemy. i think there was a subplot about the mc and this girl who gets involved with french nobility
