Nathan This is a book review for the book Inheritance by Christopher Paolini.
Eragon is a farm boy from Palancar Valley who was accidently sent a dragon egg. The dragon egg hatched and he became bonded to the dragon, Saphira. Together he travelled to the Boer mountains and was recruited by a rebel group called the Varden to defeat an evil king that has ruled the land for over a century, Galbatorix. On his way to the king’s city, Uru’baen, he realizes the world is not as it seems. Eragon and his companions have to risk everything to make it to the king and with little hope of defeating a ruler who has survived for over a century. He comes across shocking revelations and enemies that should not exist.
I would recommend this book to a friend. It is a semi-hard book to read but the way Paolini puts description into the book it is very easy to visualize. It is a good book to try and predict what is going to happen because it isn’t as predictable as you think it might be and is is easy to think of many different ways the book could go.
There are many themes in this book. The main theme is to not do what you believe is right for yourself but do what is right for everybody. At the end of the book Eragon sacrifices something important to him so that others may live in peace. Another theme could be that you can’t change who you are. The Urgals warn that there thirst for honor in battle will never completely leave their race even though there is peace now.
“It's impossible to go through life unscathed. Nor should you want to. By the hurts we accumulate, we measure both our follies and our accomplishments. I chose this quote because it tells us that mistake are as much as who we are as accomplishments. It also says that is you don’t get a little hurt or make a mistake you are not really living life.
Eragon was an interesting character to read about. In every book in the series he changed farther and farther away from the young farm boy that he once was. This is most evident in Inheritance because he knew that the farm boy would not have risked everything he had to defeat an enemy that seemed impossible to defeat. It is more enjoyable to read about a main character that changes who he is than a character that is predictable and always makes the same decisions about everything.
