7. A book set in a country that fascinates you

I love this book but it lives up to its name! Be prepared to feel sick to your stomach multiple times!

For what it's worth, I insist on mentally considering Scotland as it's own country. Historically and culturally it seems like it counts as separate anyway.

There's The Fifth Doll. Whether it's entirely set in Russia vs a Russia-like fantasy world is a bit debatable, but it's clearly based on Russian culture regardless, and I think it would qualify.

I haven’t read it yet, but I’m planning on reading Akata Witch sometime this year and it’s set in Nigeria.

Check out Welcome to Lagos
I think it's set in Nigeria.

Adiche's Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah (part of it) are all set in Nigeria.

I read Blackass for the challenge a year or two ago and enjoyed it. Set in Nigeria.

Incredible memoir told via graphic novel set in Vietnam.
