A great thriller set in the Philippines of the 1970s is The Breath of Night

Anshita (_book_freak) | 247 comments I have decided to read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. It is set in Kansas, USA. I'm not as much interested in the setting as I'm in reading more of Flynn's work.

I love this book but it lives up to its name! Be prepared to feel sick to your stomach multiple times!

For what it's worth, I insist on mentally considering Scotland as it's own country. Historically and culturally it seems like it counts as separate anyway.

✨ A ✨ (az_youread) any YA suggestions for book set in Russia?

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments Azrah wrote: "any YA suggestions for book set in Russia?"

There's The Fifth Doll. Whether it's entirely set in Russia vs a Russia-like fantasy world is a bit debatable, but it's clearly based on Russian culture regardless, and I think it would qualify.

I haven’t read it yet, but I’m planning on reading Akata Witch sometime this year and it’s set in Nigeria.

Check out Welcome to Lagos
I think it's set in Nigeria.

Adiche's Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun and Americanah (part of it) are all set in Nigeria.

I read Blackass for the challenge a year or two ago and enjoyed it. Set in Nigeria.

Jen K | 91 comments I second the suggestion of Americanah for Nigeria! I really enjoyed it though it may have helped that I was visiting at the time. Barack Obama just recommended A Grain of Wheat by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o for Kenya.

Tabitha (ellornaslibrary) Since I'm already reading this for the Read Harder 2018 Challenge, I'm going to use The Bear and the Nightingale for this task and using it as well for the 'book with animal in a title' task.
