Hey Lusie! Lagullande is away right now, so I get to pick for you. Here are the books that I picked:

In the Barren Ground
The Obsession
Alias Grace

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Thank you Lyn! Great picks. I think I'll go for either The Obsession or Alias Grace

I'm back from Italy now. Thanks, Lynn, for looking after the shop while I was away. Alias Grace definitely would have been one of my picks for Lusie too.

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I hope you had a great trip.
Alias Grace does sound like a good book. Have you read it, Lagullande?

Well, I have, but a long time ago so probably when it was new and I now remember nothing about it. I recently read Atwood's The Blind Assassin and found that very interesting...and recommendable.

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments That one is on my tbr as well. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Rosemary. This is my first ever pick for someone!

A Boy's Own Story (because I read this in my teens, although I can't remember much about it)
Portrait of a Murderer (because I love these British Library Crime Classics)
Home (because it's been on your shelves for a while, and it's the only one that is also on my shelves!)

Hope whichever one you choose is fantastic.

Rosemary | 945 comments Oh wow, I'm proud to be your first pickee! :)

I'd like to go with Portrait of a Murderer because I love those books too, and it's coming for a Christmas read. But I don't actually have it yet. So I'll wait a few days and hope it arrives. If not, I do have both of the other two.

Thank you, Lagullande, and Happy New Year to you too!
I like all 3 of your picks! I'm doing some final comparisons between the three, regarding which might be the quickest available from the library at this time; which can be best used in January for other challenges (in this group and other groups), and also waiting to see what my next category will be in the AAMP group's White Elephant Party game - and then I will make my choice. I'll be back again Sunday or Monday to let you know which one I chose.

My new "White Elephant Party" category turned out to be "Crime (and Mystery)", so I am going to choose Flying Too High. Thanks again for the picks, and thanks for your virtual hospitality on the Orphan Train property :)

It would be a pleasure, Coralie. Here are your picks:

La Belle Sauvage (The Book of Dust, #1) by Philip Pullman La Belle Sauvage (I listened to the audio - 4 stars)

Ilium (Ilium, #1) by Dan Simmons Ilium (the one that's been on your shelves the longest)

The Master of Ballantrae by Robert Louis Stevenson The Master of Ballantrae (I recently read Treasure Island for the first time, and have Kidnapped on my Wishlist, I hadn't heard of this one by RLS)

I hope one of these will float your boat.

Hi Amy. Welcome aboard :-)

Here are your 3 picks:

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (because it was long listed for the Bailey's Prize, which I like to follow)
Half of a Yellow Sun (because it is the only one on your shelf that I have read - I gave it 4 stars)
Bunheads (because the title made me laugh!)

Let me know how it goes.

I think I'll go with The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. Thanks!

Started the above book, but the reader of the audio version speaks way too fast with minimal inflection. Going to switch to Half of a Yellow Sun.

Here you go, Jayme:

True Colors by Kristin Hannah The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado

I think they should all be good for other challenge groups too ;-)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1268 comments Those are all for SRC mainly.

The first two are good for RwS also.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1268 comments Which tasks for rwa?

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1268 comments Err rwa I meant

Kristin Hannah is good for 20.6 Dead Souls (repeating H)

Colson Whitehead is good for 20.3 Sanctuary (on list of Pulitzer winners), and 20.6 Dead Souls (also repeating H).

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 1268 comments Good to know, I will add them to my RWS, list

Lagullande | 484 comments Here are my picks for you, Kristina:

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, because I read it last year and very much enjoyed it
A Separate Peace by John Knowles A Separate Peace, because I have never heard of it before but it's described as an American classic so I'm guessing you might have, and it sounds interesting
Map of the Heart by Susan Wiggs Map of the Heart, because the other two are older books and this one is the most recently published on your shelf.
