Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 379 comments I know it's unAmerican, but I didn't like the movie, and it didn't make me want to read the book.

Well I haven't seen the movie, and I'm not american, but the book is enjoyable so far!

I have read the book several (about 10) times. I usually read it every 2 or 3 years so I might join in at some point but I have a few others on the go right now. I would somewhat agree with Rebecca about the movie. I very much prefer the book. It is the book I have read the most times of any. The price code on my paperback says $1.99 so you know it's old! I have used wallpaper to put a new cover on it and some of the print is actually wearing off from where I hold it. I'm sure I can take part in a discussion even if I am not currently reading it.

Patty | 42 comments I started reading it recently, but I’m reading a few things at once so it’s going kind of slow.

I find that too when I read it. There I see a lot going on and you just want to keep reading!

ive read other books that told a story of how people survived while war was going on but this is different, so different. I like it a lot!

Now you make me wonder if I'll have to give it a chance :) I usually like a book more than a movie. I recall that my complaint was, at least in part, that I didn't like any of the characters, and when it came down to it, frankly I didn't give a damn (sorry. That had to be said :D ).

Patty | 42 comments Okay, you guys have motivated me to pick it back up!

Michelle | 263 comments Mod
Yes! I finished yesterday and cried through the last 20 pages. Lol

It doesn't matter how many times I read it, I still cry at the end!

So how do people feel about scarlett? And rhett? And ashleynd melanie and anyone else?

message 14: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Douglass (rdouglass) | 379 comments See, that was just it: in the movie, I didn't care a fart for any of them. Scarlett was so incredibly selfish, and she got the man she deserved.

Patty | 42 comments I’m almost halfway in and I’m glad I kept going because now I can’t put it down. So much has happened already I can’t believe there’s still more than half way to go. But every time I start to like Scarlett I’m reminded of what a selfish brat she is!

Michelle | 263 comments Mod
Lol excellent! I think scarlett is like that friend that everyone has that frustrates you to no end, but you end up just *le sigh * and coming to expect it of them

Patty | 42 comments So I just realized how this is going to end and now I don’t want to keep going lol.

Michelle | 263 comments Mod
lol do it!!

Patty | 42 comments Well ... I finally finished it 😭😭😭
