I've found them! And I wonder why Amazon KDP authors have not been advised of them. How does one squeeze a book into this exclusive (?) set? Anyone know?

These novelette things have been around for a while, haven't they? Weren't they called kindle minis or something?

Lots of big name authors have them. I'm sure I read a patricia cornwell and a Stephen King. Maybe a Peter Straub?

I've worked out why they haven't approached KDP authors

KDP authors are apparently keen to give their books away to Amazon customers for nothing to promote them. Why should Amazon encourage them to consider charging for promotions?

I'm not keen to give my slaved-over books away (except in exceptional circumstances, of course). I'm wondering how authors get included in this £1 thingy. Or on the Kindle Singles list. What is the difference?

I have novelettes for 99p. I'm not seeing or understanding what's special about these books?
