I have read the first ten Mars books by Edgar Rice Burroughs and the first Tarzan book. I prefer the Mars books, but the 11th one is terrible. It is a compilation of old stories about John Carter and I couldn't read them because they were so unlike the others in the series.

Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments I've heard a lot of good things about Burroughs. I'll have to find a used book store and see if they have any of his work.

They are not "great literature", but he sure knows how to tell a story. Many of his works are now available as free ebooks, which is how I read Tarzan.

Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments I need to get a Kindle lol. I'll probably wait for Christmas when they go on sale.

Patrick, cyber week in July is probably your best bet for a Kindle. No need to wait til Christmas. A friend of mine got a great deal on a Fire last summer. Be sure to review the different types of Kindles it determine which is the best device for you. Having a Kindle does make reading classics in the public domain and free PDFs easier.

Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments I linked each title to the book on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I checked a lot of them to make sure the link went to the correct book. If anyone clicks on one of these links and it takes you elsewhere please let me know ;D

I get my books directly on my ipad, so I don't need Kindle.
But I also like visiting uses book stores to find unexpected treasures or books that are unavailable from the library.
I am having the greatest difficulty finding The City and the Stars by Arthur C. Clarke in any format, or at a price I want to pay.

Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments I don't have much technology in my house. I know I know, what the heck? I'm a millennial and I don't have a lot of technology besides a TV, iPhone, and laptop haha.

That's weird you can't find The City and the Stars anywhere. If you're just looking to read it (and not buy it) there should be a pdf somewhere online. If you want to own it, Barnes and Noble orders a lot of books for customers.

It's kind of hard to read books on an iphone!

Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments Lol I have a lot of books. I don't read anything on my phone, only listen to audiobooks from the LibriVox app.

I don’t read books on my iPhone. My sister, as a nurse, does, because she can’t have her kindle out at work during slow times. The screen is just too small for me unless I’m reading news articles or websites.

is a great source for finding used or new books. That website has bookstores from across the USA, U.K., and Canada. Check there for anything you simply cannot find. Very user-friendly, too!

Thanks Samantha and Patrick. For now I will keep looking in used book stores. I generally find something when I go it there, even if it isn't that book.

Patrick
While doing the "Today in Literature History"
I ran across this:
1933 Boris Strugatsky USSR, sci-fi author (Tale of Troika)

The brothers Arkady & Boris were Soviet-Russian science fiction authors who collaborated through most of their careers.

Which another Member mentioned having liked their work after the post.

This might be a good resource for you to look through for Sci Fi works in translation.

Pat the Book Goblin | 687 comments Oh thank you Lesle!

Mikiko (mikikoschot) | 52 comments I hadn't found this list yet when searching for a sci-fi challenge so, funny that I ended up getting a book by Robert Heinlein that's not on the list. The Door into Summer. I haven't read any of his books and this one sounded interesting.
