Kimberly Ann (auntie-nanuuq) | 753 comments I know many of you are on Library Thing...

Which groups are you in?

What do you know, if anything about these groups:
* What Are You Reading Now?
* Crime, Thriller & Mystery
* Historical Fiction
* Librarians who LibraryThing
* Name that Book

Do we have a group there?

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'd be glad to join a group like this, or maybe a children's books. But I don't know anything about any group, don't belong to any (yet).

In fact, I'm not really 'on' there - I just have many of my old reviews there and sometimes I use it as reference. I would like to do more.

LibraryCin | 11482 comments My favourite group there is the 2018 Category Challenge (of course, once we decide our challenges for 2019, there will be a new group set up).

It's similar to PBT in that a different theme is chosen each month, but there are a few different challenges where that is the case. You can choose with one(s) you want to participate in. The topics are decided on before the years starts, though, so you can see ahead of time what each monthly theme will be, except for "RandomCAT", which is a theme chosen by whoever is hosting that month.

This year, there are challenges for MysteryCAT (various mystery genres each month), RandomCAT (explained above), ColourCAT (each month is based on a colour). There is also AlphaKIT (based on letter of the alphabet), ScaredyKIT (mystery/horror/thriller themes in this one), and SFFKIT (Science Fiction, Fantasy themes).

The challenges are suggested and voted on, usually starting in September of the year before. So, the categories usually change each year. The KITs do not need to be voted in, so they often tend to continue year-to-year. RandomCAT is a popular one that has been voted in for a few years.

By the way, there is also a "Shelfarians" group there.

I'm in a couple of Canadian groups, and a few groups that moved from shelfari to LT.

Reading Through Time is another one that chooses a monthly theme.

Plus I'm in a few others that I'm not really active in.

Of the ones you mentioned, I think this is the only group I'm in. It's one where people try to describe a book they can't think of the title to and hopefully someone can help them out and come up with it for them.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8254 comments Here are links to some LibraryThing groups

.... former Shelfari members check in with one another (not very active any longer ... though I posted a comment a few days ago and now have several replies)

... I think this migrated from Shelfari ... certainly many former Shelfarians are in it.

I'm in ... But like most of the other groups I've joined on Library Thing there isn't really a lot of back-and-forth. Still, nice to see reviews / comments on what people are reading. New thread goes up every week, so it's pretty active.

I think I may have to check out the group Cindy mentioned on the category challenge.

LibraryCin | 11482 comments Yes, the "Read It, Track It" did migrate from shelfari (with Leafmarks as an in-between!), though it may have changed names in the migration (I can't recall what it was called at shelfari).

Thanks, BC, for giving the category challenge group a try. I should have also mentioned here that it is a busy group with lots of challenges happening, so it may be hard to follow at first. I took some time just to watch what was going on for a while before I joined in. You can pick and choose which challenge(s) to follow, if you like. You don't have to do them all, or you can just jump into whichever one is appealing each month.
