10.1. You Can't Read THAT!
In honor of Banned Book Week (9/21-9/27), read a book from this list: Best Banned or Censored Books. Note: any book used for this task must meet all regular SRC requirements, including requirements for children's books.

REQUIRED: Include in your post the number of the book on the list.

KSMary | 1131 comments The Perks of Being a Wallflower #80 on the list and does not have Childrens on the genre page (just so I don't have to later go through the children's qualifications if it shows up).

It's on the list, and does not have childrens as a main page genre. You're set.

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 4419 comments I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou - # 46 on the list

QUESTION ... do we have to read the exact edition that appears on the list or will any edition of this title work.

btwthesepages | 71 comments #1 on the list To Kill a Mockingbird. I think this meets all criteria. I have the same question as @Book Concierge though. Can I read an ebook version of this?

Karen If it is listed for children it does not qualify? I do not know what SRC is? I know I sound stupid, but I made so many mistakes for the summer challenge, I want to be ready correctly this time around.

SRC is the Seasonal Reading Challenge. You need to read the rules of the challenge - that's where you will find the rules for whether a particular book listed as childrens works.

Karen Okay, thanks. I do understand why you use the abbreviation. I do not know why I did not catch that. lol

Tara | 391 comments For confirmation, as long as the book is on the list (and meets all other criteria of course) it can count? It doesn't have to be in the top xxx number of books on the list, correct? Just on the list somewhere? Would the same hold true for other lists in the challenge, or does each task where a list is involve need to be verified by MOD for that list? Thanks for confirming.

First of all, it is not required that a book be pre-verified as being on the list. Anywhere on the list works, unless the task states otherwise - for instance, a task may require that a book be found on the first two pages of a list. When you find a book on the list, it's a good idea to write down the date you found it and its position on the list - the number or, if no number is given, the page.

When you post a task from a list, it's REALLY helpful if you include a link to the page on the list in your post, along with stating whatever info is required by the task - makes it just a little faster for the readerboard mod to verify.

Can I read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle? I've always wanted an excuse to read it!

First, verify that it's on the list. If so, look at the genre list - childrens is listed as a genre. To determine whether you can use this book for challenge points, look at the Rules of the Challenge regarding childrens books. Then check out the book on the AR Bookfinder, to see whether it meets the criteria.

:( It has a BL of 4.7 instead of 5. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I think I will read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou as well.

If you really want to work the book in, you could use it for a 5 point task. The AR points are higher than 5.

"ONE book with the IL designation of MG or MY (in UK) with a BL of at least 5.0 OR AR Pts of at least 5.0 will be allowed for ONE 5-point task"

Cindy (cindyd) It doesn't say in the instructions, but can we reread a book that we've read in the past? I would like to reread To Kill a Mockingbird.

Rereads are always allowed unless the task specifically prohibits them.

Cindy (cindyd) Thanks!

Vi | 184 comments Can we use books from any page? Because the list has weird books on it, like The Winter Sea (Slains, #1) by Susanna Kearsley , Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance . I'm doubtful if these books were actually banned..

if it's on the list and meets regular SRC requirements (length, etc), you can use it.
