Dianne Please post your vote for one of the following, note that you agree to finishing the book with us if your vote wins. I'll keep the tally here in the first post - poll will end December 31 at midnight eastern time. We will begin mid-January once we wrap up Cryptonomicon (thanks for accelerating the schedule Lorna!) Happy Voting!

ps - these are all great so feel free to vote for a book other than the one you nominated or seconded if you'd like! It's so hard to decide!

1. Anna Karenina
2. The Way We Live Now
3. Crime and Punishment
4. Daniel Deronda
5. Jane Eyre

Vote Tally as of 12/30/18 6:15 pm EST

Daniel Deronda: 6
Jane Eyre: 5
Crime and Punishment: 4
The Way We Live Now: 2
Anna Karenina: 1

Linda | 1425 comments At the moment I'm going to vote for The Way We Live Now because it's one of the two books listed that I have not read yet. But I may be persuaded to reread Jane Eyre if it wins.

Rosemary The only one on the list that I'd want to read/reread at this time would be:
Daniel Deronda

but whatever wins, I hope there will be a good discussion!

Me too, but I really enjoyed it and was almost tempted to a reread. It's a treat!

Christopher (Donut) | 81 comments I've read it before, but I picked up a free Kindle edition when it looked like it would win.

I know my track record as Chunkster participant is.. meager, but, hey, new year, new attitude.

Dianne It’s 2019 Christopher! New beginnings!

Linda | 1425 comments Pamela wrote: "Me too, but I really enjoyed it and was almost tempted to a reread. It's a treat!"

I also enjoyed it, Pamela. But you know how it goes - too many books, too little time. I've got to be choosy about the books I reread. :)

message 35: by Brian E (last edited Jan 02, 2019 08:25AM) (new)

Brian E Reynolds | 148 comments I've read and enjoyed it. I've enjoyed all 5 George Elliot novels I've read. I might join in a re-read as it has been over 20 years.

When you finish the novel, there is a BBC miniseries from early this century. It's pretty good with Hugh Dancy, Hugh Bonneville, Romola Garai, Amanda Root and Jodhi May, all experienced costume drama actors.
I once had it on my Netflix favorites but it's no longer there so I think it is off Netflix. It worth a view if you can find it somewhere.

message 36: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceyrb) I am so glad DD is being read. I have wanted to give this one a go for a while. I am having eyesight problems and haven't been able to keep up with much reading so this year I am reading a lot less and choosing carefully what I read. I will be reading this one although I may not be able to keep up with the schedule.

message 37: by Jen (new)

Jen | 67 comments For those who like audio format, there's a version on Hoopla (free) read by Juliet Stevenson, a favourite narrator of mine. I think I'll start reading from a paper copy but might move over to audio at some point.

message 38: by Dianne (new)

Dianne I just opened the DD banter thread so I'll close this one - very excited to join this one as I just read middlemarch last year and thought it was excellent!
