We have a great atmosphere in the group and I attribute a ton of that to the relationships that we have been able to develop and getting to know our fellow members. Plus. who doesn't love to talk about books/reading? So this game is pretty simple:

1. Person 1 asks 3 bookish questions.
2. Person 2 answers the questions
3. Person 2 then asks 3 questions of their own
4. Person 3 answers Person 2's questions
5. Person 3 then asks 3 questions of their own

and so on....

Each person's answers and new questions should be in the one post. And the same questions can be asked more than once if you like, to give different people a chance to answer (although not every set of questions should be the same, obviously).

-----------------

My answers are:
Since I am starting, I don't have questions to answer.

My questions are:
- Can you remember the first book that you really loved?
- What imaginary world from a book would you most want to live in?
- What's a book that you didn't like but couldn't stop reading because it was such an amusing/fun-to-hate train wreck? (If you've never had this experience, then simply what is the worst book you've ever suffered through?)

Note: If your having trouble thinking of questions, this game is inspired by a thread in another group

Kelly Brown | 371 comments My answers are:
- Can you remember the first book that you really loved?
Yes! I used to say it was my favorite book before I read On The Beach. It is called One Step at a Time by Deborah Kent. Good ol' Scholastic!

- What imaginary world from a book would you most want to live in? Obviously I would want to go to Hogwarts, and Hogsmeade, etc, but only if I am able to do magic of course!

- What's a book that you didn't like but couldn't stop reading because it was such an amusing/fun-to-hate train wreck? (If you've never had this experience, then simply what is the worst book you've ever suffered through?)

Ugh Gone Girl. I had to know how it ended. I did not like it at all though.

My questions are:
-What is your "go to book" to recommend to someone?

-Is there a book you started out not liking, but by the end you loved?

-Is there a stand alone book that you wished was a series or had a sequel?

message 3: by Johanne (new)

Johanne *the biblionaut* | 1668 comments 1. Oh, the Brothers Lionheart by Astrid Lindgren, Alice in Wonderland, the Neverending Story and the Narnia series, sorry I can't just name one.

2. The Shire

3. hahaha, good question! Fifty Shades of Grey

new questions:
- is there a movie you enjoyed more than the book?
- what super power/ magical power from a book would you most like to have?
-is there a series/book you reread as a way to feel safe in the world? (like meeting an old trusted friend)

message 4: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments - Can you remember the first book that you really loved?
Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm
This was my favorite picture book when I was a little girl and one of the first things I bought when I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter. They don't love it as much as I did....but its still one of my favorites 😊

- What imaginary world from a book would you most want to live in?
The world of Harry Potter of course

- What's a book that you didn't like but couldn't stop reading because it was such an amusing/fun-to-hate train wreck? (If you've never had this experience, then simply what is the worst book you've ever suffered through?)
OMG!!! Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. This book was pure torture, and worse I listened to it on audio. Took me forever to figure out what all the scratchy noises were, a friend who had read it had to explain it to me. Also those pages where she just keeps repeating herself....repeatedly. If you've read this you know exactly what Im talking about

next...
1.What is the best book that you read in 2018?
2. do you have any odd reading habits?
3. What character most reminds you of yourself?

-What is your "go to book" to recommend to someone?
The Ocean at the End of the Lane

-Is there a book you started out not liking, but by the end you loved?
The Fellowship of the Ring

-Is there a stand alone book that you wished was a series or had a sequel?
I wish there was a series of the Harry Potter characters as adults

My questions
-What are your favorite and least favorite genres
-What is your favorite book you have read this year
-What book are you most excited to read in 2019

message 7: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 1058 comments 1.What is the best book that you read in 2018? I'd say Crooked Kingdom, but I am reading The Night Circus and so far I think it will be the best.

2. do you have any odd reading habits? Yes, When I stop reading for the day, I read a random paragraph ahead saying "in our next episode" ... I have given myself so many spoilers in that way :(

3. What character most reminds you of yourself? Snape ... It's not that we are similar, but I felt so identified with him so many times :P

My questions
1. Which book are you most excited to read next year?
2. Which series is your favorite?
3. If you were able to live in one book, which one would you choose?

message 9: by Shelley (new)

Shelley | 408 comments -What are your favorite and least favorite genres
I'm a sci-fi/fantasy girl. I love action, so it makes sense that I'm not a big fan of super literary cranial books. I read enough however to have loves and hates in every category.

-What is your favorite book you have read this year
I read so many good ones! I'm torn between Elantris and The Prisoner of Heaven, and that took a while to narrow down to 2.

-What book are you most excited to read in 2019
The Golden Tresses of the Dead because Flavia is wonderful to read (alhtough she'd probably drive me insane in person)

My questions:
Have you ever hate finished a book?
Are there any movies that you (sacrilege) think were better than the book?
Is there a series that you have been looking forward to for years and are losing hope of seeing it finished?

Have you ever hate finished a book?
- For the 2018 prompt first 10 of your TBR, I definitely hated every word but pushed through because I felt like I needed to read the oldest book on my TBR. (It was What Was She Thinking? Notes on a Scandal and it was awful.)

Are there any movies that you (sacrilege) think were better than the book?
- There have been quite a few that I thought were as good as the book -- it's usually when it deviates so much from the book that I decide to just treat them as two separate entities. (The Lightning Thief comes to mind.)

Is there a series that you have been looking forward to for years and are losing hope of seeing it finished?
- No because I purposefully don't start series unless I know the author has a good track record haha! I refuse to start Game of Thrones to be disappointed.

My questions
1. Which book are you most looking forward to reading come January?
2. Are there any new releases in 2019 that you are looking forward to?
3. What's the best book you read of this year and why?

Are there any award winning books you thought shouldn't have won? I was surprised that Still Me won as Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ best fiction. I read it, but it was far from the best book I read last year.

-What is you favorite TV adaptation of a book? Can't say I have one. I can't even think of one.
-If you could have dinner with any author, who would it be? Interesting question. Stephen King or Michelle Obama

My questions:
Is there an author that you"can't wait" for to publish another book?

What book was your favorite read in 2018?

What is a favorite book you read as a child (or was read to you)?

Rachelnyc | 943 comments Sarah E wrote: "Which book are you most excited to read next year?
The Starless Sea, by Erin Morganstern

Which series is your favorite?
It's a toss up between the Lady Julia Grey Series by Deanna..."

1. I can't think of any major award winning books I didn't think deserved to win so I will go with the GR awards this year. I haven't read it so I can speak to quality but I think the votes were skewed towards Still Me because it is part of a popular series when IMHO An American Marriage was the best of the finalists.

2. TV adaptations have really stepped it up recently so this is a tough category but I will go with Alias Grace. The actress who played Grace was brilliant and it was such a wonderful show.

3. Since I just received the book for Christmas and she is a woman I admire greatly, I will say Michelle Obama.

1. What are your book related New Year resolutions, if you have any?
2. What was your favorite read this year?
3. What genre(s) do you avoid?

Edie wrote: Is there an author that you"can't wait" for to publish another book?

1) My guilty pleasure author is Chris Bohjalian. I don't know if I can put him in the "can't wait category" and his last one wasn't my favourite, but his is the name that came to mind.
JRR Martin should REALLY go ahead any time and publish Winds of Winter though!

2) I don't know if I can pick just one.
The Bear and the Nightingale
followed by
Snow Falling on Cedars
and maybe
Ancillary Justice

3) I really loved The Black Stallion and other books in the series. And A Special Trick. Oh, and Mousekin's Golden House. Loved (and still do) that series, for the illustrations as much as the stories.

Questions:

1. Do you ever think about writing a book?
2. Did you ever invent pen names for yourself?
3. Is there one book that has changed the way you think and/or live your life?

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 302 comments I don't think anyone answered Edie's questions:

1) No, I have so many series I need to catch up on. I think all my favorite authors have books out I haven't read yet.

2) tough one. I think Lincoln in the Bardo was most unique.

3). I loved Trixie Belden as a kid!

My questions

1) what is the first book you plan to read in 2019?
2) what is the last book you DNF?
3) you cozy up to read a good book. Where are you and what do you have with you?

message 21: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1130 comments My answers:
1) I think Bury Your Dead or Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience.
2) um... probably some short stories I didn’t finish before my library loan expired?
3) in bed!

My questions:
1) what book have you most recently tried to get someone else to read?
2) what was your favorite assigned book in school?
3) (stolen from above) do you think you’ll ever write your own book?

1) The first book I plan to read in 2019 in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone since my goal is to re-read the whole series, and I think it's a great "transition" into the new year to start out with these books.

2) The one and only book I have ever DNF'd is What If . . . Everyone Knew Your Name. A very poorly designed choose-your-own-adventure book!

3) Generally, I'd be in my room, probably at my desk or bed, with a comfy sweater to wrap around me.

My questions:
1) Which reading goal are you most proud of achieving this year?
2) Who is your favourite author and why?
3) What is one book you would recommend from your favourite genre?

message 23: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) 1) Which reading goal are you most proud of achieving this year?
I read Les Miserables. It was my third attempt and I really wanted to get through it. Not an easy breezy book, obviously, but I loved it.
2) Who is your favourite author and why?
Nick Hornby, because he's got it all. He writes great essays, non-fiction, and his fiction is so warm and wonderful and smart.
3) What is one book you would recommend from your favourite genre?
For classic/fiction -- Middlemarch. I was reluctant to start it because I've always heard it was a slog, but I found it delightful, start to finish.

My questions:

1. What is your favorite picture book ever?
2. What are your top three reads of 2018 so far?
3. Besides ATY, what are your reading plans for 2019?

message 24: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments 1. What is your favorite picture book ever?
My all time favorite is Farley Goes to the Doctor: Featuring Jim Henson's Sesame Street Muppets but I also love Corduroy
2. What are your top three reads of 2018 so far?
In no particular order: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Hate U Give, A Man Called Ove
3. Besides ATY, what are your reading plans for 2019?
I hope to finish ATY for the first time, maybe try the Modern Mrs. Darcy challenge and/or Popsugar challenge, and read diversely.

My questions:
1. What was your least favorite book you read in 2018 and why?
2. Is there book you wish they would make a movie of?
3. What is your favorite thing about reading challenges?

message 25: by Bryony (new)

Bryony (bryony46) | 1081 comments 1. What was your least favorite book you read in 2018 and why?
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. I had such high expectations of this as I know lots of people love this series. But, it was such a disappointment to me. The author seemed more interested in showing off how witty he is than telling a story that readers could enjoy.

2. Is there book you wish they would make a movie of?
I don’t watch many films but several children’s picture books I love (The Gruffalo, Zog, Stick Man and more) have been made into animated films recently and I’d love the same studio to make a film of more Julia Donaldson books, maybe Charlie Cook's Favorite Book or The Snail and the Whale.

3. What is your favorite thing about reading challenges?
Mostly just that they motivate me to read more. I also find they help me discover books that I probably wouldn’t otherwise have heard of.

My questions:
1. What is your favourite genre and what book from it would you recommend to someone who isn’t familiar with the genre?
2. Which author have you read the most books by?
3. What are your 2019 reading goals?

°´Ê´¡³¾²â´Ê° (amybooksit) 1. What is your favourite genre and what book from it would you recommend to someone who isn’t familiar with the genre?
My favorite genre is sci-fi and I would recommend The Martian or The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planetto someone who just wants to dip their toe into the lighter end of the genre.

2. Which author have you read the most books by? That would most likely be Sue Grafton and her Alphabet Series A is for Alibi etc. or maybe Dean Koontz, I was fascinated with him in my late teens and early 20's.

3. What are your 2019 reading goals?I am going to complete the AtY challenge and Popsugar (hopefully). I did both of those and a rejects challenge in each of the last two years. Within those challenges I also hope to read a LOT more books for my Around the World Challenge, reading authors that were born in each of the countries of the world.

My questions:
1. What book are you most looking forward to reading in 2019?
2. Where do you get most of your book recommendations from?
3. What type of books do you read the most; paperback, hardcover, ebook, audiobook, etc?

message 27: by Ann (new)

Ann S | 624 comments 1. What book are you most looking forward to reading in 2019?
Where the World Ends
2. Where do you get most of your book recommendations from?
Mostly from librarians magazines and lists. Way too many suggestions come in from this challenge.
3. What type of books do you read the most; paperback, hardcover, ebook, audiobook, etc? Paperbacks are easier to read while in bed and if I drop them on my head they hurt less.

My questions?
1. Do you ever go to the library with a specific KIND of book in mind and research it?

2. Do you always read a friends recommended book?

3. If you read a popular book and find it awful, are you totally disappointed?

message 28: by Tammy (new)

Tammy | 704 comments 1. Do you ever go to the library with a specific KIND of book in mind and research it?
I practically live in the library, but most of the time I know exactly what I'm looking for. But if I like a particular book then I will read other things about it and about the author.

2. Do you always read a friends recommended book?
Not always. Sometimes my friends don't dig the same types of books that I do, but that's fine. If I trust the friend, then yes, I will read the recommended book.

3. If you read a popular book and find it awful, are you totally disappointed?
Yes.

My questions:
1) Do you feel compelled to finish a book challenge if you do the planning and make a list or are you okay with not completing the challenge?

2) What was your favorite book of the year?

3) What was you least favorite book of the year?

message 29: by Samantha (last edited Dec 27, 2018 02:29PM) (new)

Samantha | 1487 comments 1) Do you feel compelled to finish a book challenge if you do the planning and make a list or are you okay with not completing the challenge? I made a partial list prior to getting started on this years ATY challenge and didn't stick to it and am fine with that. I need to read 3 more books to finish this years ATY challenge. I will be disappointed if I do not complete but its been a crazy year and sometimes you have to learn to deal with setbacks.

2) What was your favorite book of the year? So hard to pick one! Did You Ever Have a Family is a stand out from early this year.

3) What was you least favorite book of the year? This is easy, not sure why I gave it two stars - Hey Ladies!: The Story of 8 Best Friends, 1 Year, and Way, Way Too Many Emails

My Questions:
1. On Christmas I found out that my husband has some rather odd rules for reading. The weirdest is he needs to read all books by an author in order no mater how bad they are before moving on to new books/authors. Do you have any strange rules for yourself?

2. Is there a book cover you think is particularly wonderful (please share)?

3. Are there any books you haven't gotten around to reading this year that you really can't wait to get started on?

I have weird rules for pretty much everything -- the main one for reading is that I try to read related books in chronological order. So, it took me forever to get to The Odyssey because I had to read The Iliad first and couldn't really get into it. Now that I've finally read The Odyssey, I can get to Ulysses.

Not really a rule, but people think it's funny that I always have about 5 books that I'm currently reading.

2. Is there a book cover you think is particularly wonderful (please share)?

I love the cover to Christmas Days:
Christmas Days 12 Stories and 12 Feasts for 12 Days by Jeanette Winterson

I'm also a big fan of Edward Gorey covers -- the covers are how I got into John Bellairs when I was a kid:
The Curse of the Blue Figurine (Johnny Dixon, #1) by John Bellairs

3. Are there any books you haven't gotten around to reading this year that you really can't wait to get started on?

The Terror is one I can't wait to get to. It's not even on my 2019 plan yet, but I am loving the show and am just generally a huge horror reader.

My questions:

1. What is the one thing people can say when recommending a book that will make you want to read it immediately?

2. Have you ever revisited a book you read in school/as a child and changed your opinion of it?

3. Have you ever seen a movie that you thought was better than the book?
