Author: Fatima Farheen Mirza
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes, in the sense that it was the event that brought the family back together. But also no, in the sense that it could have been any event that required the whole family being there, such as a funeral.
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The bride was the sister of the main character.
Would you recommend? Yes, it was a very good book. It would also work really well for a book about a family.

Author: Diane Setterfield
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? Not particularly, although it did lead to some important interactions. And the main characters were attendees.
Would you recommend? Absolutely! Such an amazing book.

Rachel (wildhoney) | 59 comments Title: The Unhoneymooners
Author: Christina Lauren
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The main characters were the maid-of-honor and best man and the events of the wedding are crucial to the plot because all the guests at the wedding reception ate the seafood buffet and got food poisoning except these two and then of course, even though they hate each other, they had to go on the all expenses paid honeymoon vacation instead of it going to waste.
Would you recommend? Yes. It's very cute for a contemporary romance novel. An easy read great in between heavier books. I laughed out loud multiple times.

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Title: Less
Author: Andrew Sean Greer

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes, definitely!

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees?
One of the main characters was one of the grooms.

Would you recommend? Definitely! I loved reading this book, especially after discussing it in two different book clubs, particularly the book club on campus. That discussion actually enlightened me to understand the book as an allegory... And I thought it was a very poignant love story over all. Though I admit being a bit annoyed with Arthur on occasion, in the end, I was happy for him!

Title: Wait For Me, Jack
Author: Addison Jones

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? I would say so since this marriage lasted longer than 60 years! Not that it was all a "bed of roses"! They experienced their challenges, as with any married couple. I could have never stayed with Jack/Jacko as Milly/Billy did...

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? They were indeed the bride and groom!

Would you recommend? Yes! I felt it was a very accurate and poignant look at a lifelong relationship, especially as each of you ages and become less healthy...

Title: When They Call You a Terrorist: A Black Lives Matter Memoir
Author: Patrice Khan-Cullors, Asha Bandele, Angela Y. Davis (foreword)

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? I felt it was, although it was closer to the end. It felt as if Patrisse finally found a person to share her life with that will hopefully be a stable long-term relationship. Her first wedding/marriage relationship did not manage to last long-term.

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The main character/subject was the bride for both weddings.

Would you recommend? Yes! Every "white" person should read this book! Period!

Author: Annie Ward

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes!

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees?
The main characters were the bride and groom.

Would you recommend? Ooohhh, yes! If you like a suspenseful thriller with lots of betrayal and misguided alliances...this is your book! Very character-driven, IMHO! I met and spoke with the author and it was amazing to hear the backstory of this book. It actually began as an autobiography! :)

Title: Pachinko
Author: Min Jin Lee

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Definitely!

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The main character was the bride and one of the main characters was the groom!

Would you recommend? Yes! Yes! Yes! This was so very insightful regarding Japanese occupation of Korea and the trials and tribulations of Korean immigrants to Japan. Needless to say, they faced severe prejudice and discrimination...

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? Kinda. A few characters were being matched for most of the book. The main characters were attendees.
Would you recommend? Since this is the last book in the Alex & Eliza trilogy, I'll recommend the series if you like Hamilton

Author: Philippa Gregory
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? There were 2 actual wedding ceremonies and one elopement. One ceremony was a critical part of the plot, but the other ceremony wasn't as critical. The main character was the bride in one ceremony and the mother of the bride in the second ceremony .
Would you recommend? Yes!

Megan | 463 comments Title: The Final Vow
Author: Amanda Flower
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The wedding was critical to the plot since the murder mystery involved the death of the wedding planner and the question of whether the wedding would take place following her untimely death. The main character was helping to organize the wedding of her ex-husband(!) as the museum director at the historic location.
Would you recommend? If you enjoy cozy mysteries, I would definitely recommend. Even though it was the third one in the series, I was able to dive in and enjoy it. I found it to be a fun, briskly-paced mystery with likable characters and an interesting premise.

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? They were attendees, one of them was close to the groom.
Would you recommend? Not really. I'm torn about it. I didn't really enjoy it, but I kept reading it. I think if you like romance novels, you'd like it.

Author: Patricia Briggs
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? They were the bride and groom.
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes and no. The book mostly takes place on the couple's honeymoon, which wouldn't happen without the wedding.
Would you recommend? This is book 6 in one of my favourite book series, so as long as you like UF I'd totally recommend it.

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Completely
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? Attendees
Would you recommend? I recommend this book for sure. However I read it as an ebook and it was annoying to go back and forth when reading the footnotes.

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? In that the main character was making all the dresses for the bridal party, and the murders (cozy mystery) were all focuses around the upcoming wedding, .yes.

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? Attendee - she was a close friend of the bride.

Would you recommend? Yes, for people who like cozy mysteries with a dash of paranormal.

Cornerofmadness | 786 comments Title: The Golden Tresses of the Dead

Author: Alan Bradley

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? It was the start of the mystery and the ramifications were woven throughout the story

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The main character is the younger sister of the bride.

Would you recommend? If you're familiar with the series then yes. This is book ten so it's not one to just pick up. WHile they do have backstory a new reader might be lost. That said I love Flavia and this series

message 19: by Drakeryn (new)

Drakeryn | 708 comments Title: The Stars are Legion
Author: Kameron Hurley

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes, absolutely. The wedding cements an alliance between two (formerly) warring factions, and it's central to the secret plots/objectives of both brides, for completely different reasons.

Were the main characters the bride/bride or were they attendees? Bride #1 is one of the main characters; Bride #2 is the main antagonist. It's, uh, a complex relationship.

Would you recommend? I thought it was incredible. It's my second favorite book of the year. Having said that, I'm a weird person who likes weird books. I would recommend it if you're interested in a character-focused lesbian space opera; if you like wildly creative worldbuilding; and if you're okay not understanding everything at the start. (One of the main characters has amnesia, so she doesn't always understand what's going on. The other main character [the bride] plays things close to the chest and doesn't always reveal what's going on.)

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? No.
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The main character is the groom in the first wedding shown in the book. He photographs the second wedding in the book for the newspapers.
Would you recommend? Yes.

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Although the wedding was not a critical part of the plot, I think it helped develop the relationship between Will and Louisa so was a necessary part of the story.
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The characters were guests at the wedding.
Would you recommend? Definitely!

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? There were two weddings. They each only took up about a page and a half, but the marriages were crucial to the plot
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The title/main character was the bride at both
Would you recommend? Luke-warmly. I thought the second half of the book was better than the first. The first half had a "this happened, then this happened, then this happened" vibe. And I'd only recommend if you like Christian lit because it is very much so.

Would you recommend? Yes, it’s a light, fun, quick read (even though it took me 2 weeks with everything I have going on at home right now!) I typically read lengthier, more serious books, but this was a fun diversion. I plan to read the 2 other books in this trilogy.

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes
Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? Drew Nichols was in the wedding party and Alexa was his date. The wedding prompted their first date and relationship throughout the book.
Would you recommend? Yes. It was fun-- annoying in parts with the back and forth, but I appreciated the snarky writing.

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Yes, sort of. When Tim's mom Nell marries Big Kell it is a start of trouble for Tim and Nell. The marriage loop can be a noose.

Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The attendee Tim was more of a main character.

Would you recommend? Yup.

Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees?
The book is a historical fiction about the making of Princess (now Queen) Elizabeth's wedding dress, so the wedding was critical. One of the main characters who had worked on the dress was an attendee.
Would you recommend? I really loved this book and would recommend to anyone who loves historical fiction.

Author: Jasmine Guillory
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The main characters were attendees at a wedding of one of their ex’s. The wedding was critical to only why and how they came to be together, but went beyond that to their relationship blossoming.
Would you recommend? Yes, if someone was looking for a quick fun read. The book is cute, it as typical with books of this genre, you do want to throw the book every now or then just because of the “dumb things they might say or do. Because, you know, we are all relationship experts 🤣

message 31: by Julie (new)

Julie | 43 comments I read Crazy Rich Asians as part of the group read and then forgot to even comment about it. 😂

This book is not one I would have picked out on my own in a million years. It isn’t my usual fare. However, being a part of book clubs for me is all about getting out of my comfort zone of reading, and I heard so much good about this that I gave it a try.

For the first quarter of the book I completely hated it. All the wealth to me was nauseating when thinking about all the people in the world without clean drinking water, food or shelter. I am not a celebrity gossip fan either, so this really didn’t do much for me. But Rachel and her single mom made it more palatable for me. The writing was good so I was pulled in eventually. By the end, I felt like it was a good fluff book. I thought maybe I would give the series a chance and borrowed the second book and THAT was a big mistake. I think it was the worst book I read this year. The writing was terrible. It read like
a bad tabloid. I think the author is just trying to make more money off the first book’s success and isn’t caring about the quality. It would have been much better left as a stand alone.

Yes. The main character is the bride's sister and maid of honor. After a few too many comments, she hires a date - an old high school crush.
Would you recommend?
Yes, it's a very light, sweet read. Great if you like romances, or if you've been reading a lot of large, heavier material, this is just perfect fun story.

Abbie (abbienormal21) | 91 comments Title: The Wedding Party
Author: Jasmine Guillory
Was the wedding a critical part of the plot? Were the main characters the bride/groom or were they attendees? The MCs were in the wedding party, and the bride and groom had been the MCs of the author's first book. The wedding planning/wedding wasn't as big a part of the plot as I had expected but there are major plot points that take place during wedding related events and on the day of the wedding.
Would you recommend? Yes, I've enjoyed all of Jasmine Guillory's books; she's a great contemporary romance author and writes interesting characters.
