Linda and I would like to get to know a little more about what all you guys would be interested in seeing in the group. As a poll will not allow for multiple responses we are hoping that you all will answer here. Some of the activities are already in full swing, while some are in the works to start in January of the new year.

Please just answer with the letter according to what you are interested in. This will allow us to see what to focus on getting up and running and what not to bother with :D

A) A to Z Book Challenge ~ The only real challenge everyone should join since that is what started the whole group in the first place. [ 15 ]

B) A to Z Author Challenge ~ A challenge to see if one can read through the alphabet of Authors. [ 10 ]

C) Double Letter Challenge ~ A challenge to see if one can read through the alphabet with Double Letters in the title. [ 2 ]

D) State Challenge ~ A challenge to see if one can read through the states and maybe around the world. [ 5 ]

E) Holiday Challenge ~ A challenge to see how many books one can read with the various holidays listed. [ 6 ]

F) *Monthly Personal Challenges ~ Each month people who are interested in this challenge will state how many books or pages, they want to read that month. Of course some months this goal wont be meet but that is understandable for life just gets in the way. [ 3 ]

G) *Seasonal Challenges ~ To see how many books one reads that is set in a season, during each season (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall)

H) *Theme Challenges ~ To see how many books one can read with various themes in the book, such as Forgiveness, New Believer, and so on. Ideas on different themes would be appreciated. [ 1 ]

I) *Professional Challenges ~ To see how many books one can read with various professions that will be listed. [ 1 ]

J) Pick It For Me ~ This is where people sign up to allow someone else to pick a book from their TBR list (or special list that the person created), and they will read it for that month. [ 8 ]

K) Pick Me a New Genre ~ This is where people sign up to allow someone else to pick a book of a genre that they don't normally read. The person who signs up, has a say in what they will not read. [ 1 ]

L) Reading Groups ~ Where 3-4 people as a group reads one book that they agree upon. [ 2 ]

M) Monthly Book of the Month for the Group ~ A book that is chosen by Linda for the whole group to read as a whole. [ 3 ]

N) Monthly Series of the Month for the Group ~ A series of 2-3 books that is chosen by Janine for the whole group to read as a whole. [ 3 ]

O) Book Give-A-Way ~ Once a month Linda will offer a book to give-a-way to a lucky winner. [ 6 ]

P) *Book Swap ~ Once a month, people will sign up with a few books that they are willing to send to someone else. Everyone who signs up will also receive a book from someone else. (This is still in the works on how it will work). People who will sign up will need to state paper verse ebook with the version (Kindle/Nook) so that people will get books that they prefer. [ 1 ]

Q) *Secret Reader ~ Where at the beginning of the new year, everyone who signs up will be given a buddy who has signed up. They will keep their identity, as much as possible, a secret, while sending their buddy a book every month. The cost of the book should be NO MORE than $5.00. We want to keep this cost effective so that everyone who wants to join can. Everyone who signs up should create a list of books they want (between 15-25) so that their secret buddy can choose a book for their buddy. With some who only read Kindle/Nook books, keeping their identity a secret might be hard, in that case we ask that the ones receiving the books keep the name of their buddy to themselves until the end of the time period. Thinking of starting off with a 6 month commitment and see how it works. [ 2 ]

R) *A Bi-Weekly Pick It For Me ~ There are some readers in the group who might be interested in doing this every other week.

S) *Folders created special for different stages of life to talk about books. With some of the readers, not only are they reading books that they enjoy, they are reading books daily to their little children, reading the books that their tween years and teens are reading, grandparents who read to their grandchildren and those who are empty nesters. By having separate folders for these people to talk about the books they are reading might help others find good books for the stage in life of that they are at.

T) *Reading Buddies ~ This is just teaming up a group of 3 people who encourage each other with their reading. We will try to match up people as much as possible who have similar reading interests. The people in the group will just encourage each other with new books that they have read or just to be there. Reading Buddies will rotate every three months so that we can all encourage each other as we get to know each other better. [ 1 ]

U) *I Just Read This Great Book ~ This would be a folder where everyone can tell everyone else about a book that they just finished which they just really loved, and want to tell everyone about it. [ 6 ]

V) *Monthly Games ~ Such as, maybe, Grab a Book with your eyes closed, Read such and such number book on your ebook, Read a book with a mostly Red cover, etc [ 3 ]

All of the above [ 1 ]

* Will be started in the new year. Look for more details come December.

Every mark at the end of each sections like so | is one count towards that challenge or activity.

Do you have any ideas that you would like to share, with an idea how it would run.

Thank You for your Time

Linda and Janine

Kim Hampton | 84 comments I think they all sound great! Thanks so much Janine for doing such a great job with this group. It is so much fun! I also like the idea of doing a "question of the week" or a "question of the month," which could be things like "What was your favorite book when you were a child?" Or "Tell us about one of your favorite memories involving books." It would be a great way to get to know people better. :)

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you Ashley, Jessie and Kim for your input and votes. Kim I forgot to mention the "question of the week" since we have been doing that the last couple of weeks. Thank you for that reminder :D

Noel Arndt Caryl | 58 comments I have been looking at the list and been thinking through the different choices. I am definitely interested in A, B, J, M and U. D, N and O have potential. My problem is trying to incorporate my To-Read list with my all of the challenges.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you Noel for voicing your thoughts and votes. You can use the same book for different challenges.

For example lets take Jingle Bell Blessings by Bonnie K. Winn.

It would cover the J of the book challenge (Jingle), then there is the B for the double letter challenge (Bell and Blessing), Christmas for the holiday challenge and Texas for the State challenge. We don't want to make it hard, just offer different things. Does that help Noel with your To Read list.

message 25: by Barb (new)

 Barb Bailey I would like A, B, E and U .
I'm thinking we might want a group challenge, together we read 500,000 pages this year and we add our # of completed pages as we go ! Just an idea !

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Barb that sounds like an interesting idea for sure. And I have added your voice to the totals above.

message 27: by Kim (new)

Kim Hampton | 84 comments I like Barb's idea too! It would be neat to see how many pages we could all read together.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Now that things are settling down (I hope and pray) I am going to put up a list of the things that we are thinking of doing in the next couple of weeks and I think the group page challenge is a great idea too.

Barb Bailey Beth and Linda , I had a brain storm this morning I want to share with you. I have kept a journal for years, most times it's been a prayer journal, sometimes a Gratitude / Blessings journal and some years just a normal daily journal . Since we are a group of Christian ladies, maybe in the new year we could start a Gratitude Log. As we share our blessings we will most likely encourage and lift one another up . God is good, All the time !

Kim Hampton | 84 comments I think that's an amazing idea. :)
