First--I've seen people wear everything from business suits to jeans and T-shirts to Jury Duty. I personally feel that it is respectful to wear a skirt or NON-denim trousers and nice top---you don't have to wear stockings or heels but closed-toed shoes (like a pair of flats or loafers) are a little dressier than sandals. Though the last time I went, which was only two months ago, I wore a sweet pair of Christian Louboutin platform wedge sandals in leopard pony hair! This may be why I got recused, come to think of it.
Second--electronic devices, definitely NOT. However, my experience has been that it is OK to read a book in the Jury Room. A lot of Jury Duty is sitting around waiting; I always tuck a book into my bag and once the formalities are over and the waiting begins I just casually take it out and start reading. I've never been reprimanded for this so I have to assume it's OK. Of course you may NOT read in the Courtroom because you are supposed to be paying attention to the proceedings. I have done Jury Duty where there was a TV in the Jury Room but you're pretty much stuck watching whatever silly daytime talkshow is on, unless you have to nerve to get up and change the channel.
I'm a nurse, too, BTW, so I completely understand about the whole "scrubs" thing.
Good luck!!

Maybe there is someone to call for clarification?
Good Luck.

Personally, I would bring a large purse and stick a book inside. What's the worst that will happen? They'll discover the book and send you home?
I had jury duty once, thankfully it only lasted a day. It was quite boring, and I, too, brought a book with me for when I went out to lunch.

Do you knit? Crochet? Anything?
The last time my father had jury duty he took a pack of cards and played poker with some of the other folks in the same boat.

Due to security probably not allowed any sharp objects. Needles would be out, I know they are where we live. But to ban books?
