We are no longer verifying the lack of childrens genres. See post 1 in this thread, Not Really for Kids and Genre Verifications.

Sorry, I didn't see there are new rules. I'm more confused now than when I began participating five years ago. The funny thing is that I never read children's books for the challenge. The genre just seems to appear out of nowhere sometimes.

Can I please have True Grit verified for the genre "inspirational"
Can I please have Point of Impact verified for the genre "spy thriller > espionage"
Thankyou so much!

Actually, we have seen very few books with the childrens genre inappropriately showing up as a main page genre - and, generally those are parenting books and erotica. It doesn't just show up randomly on the vast majority of books that are actually books geared to adults. And, if you do encounter that situation, you can ask for an override in the Not Really for Kids thread, so if you're not reading kids books for the challenge, you should be fine.
The pre-verification does not appear necessary since there's another way to deal with the actual problem should it arise.

True Grit does not have inspirational listed as a main page genre. The other two are noted.

Have you looked at the FAQs? There's a step by step guide to using the childrens book rules.

Thanks, I understand now. I think the reason I see this happen more often than others is because I love to read lesser known vintage books that don't have a lot of ratings or shelves. Therefore, when only one or two people label them "childhood" reads, because they read them in their younger years, "children's" shows up as a top genre right away.

Yep, that's just the sort of situation that led us to set up the procedure to deal with this problem.

An acceptable book for what? This thread is to verify genres listed - you can tell for yourself whether the genre you need is listed on the book's main page. If you want a genre noted, in case it disappears from the main page, repost, with a link to the book, and specifying what genre you want noted.
